Chapter 199 Men Backing Her Up

Susanna heard a familiar voice and turned to see Daniel.

She looked surprised and ran over. "Weren't you leaving?"

A few days ago, Daniel had come to Lindwell to deal with Dick for her. But since she made a deal with Dick herself, the matter couldn't go further.

She thought Daniel had already gone back to Novaria, given how busy he was.

Daniel patted her head. "I had a case here. What a coincidence. Since Dick doesn't appreciate kindness, you don't need to be nice to him."

Susanna remembered Aaron saying Dick was using his broken leg to threaten him. That was intolerable.

So, no need to be nice to Dick.

She nodded. "Okay, the hospital's surveillance footage and my medical records are still available. If we report and sue, it should be resolved quickly."

After she finished speaking, she felt a cold gaze from behind.

Susanna turned and saw Aaron's eyes. She lowered her gaze and followed Daniel to report the case.

Aaron watched, his eyes on the lawyer next to Susanna.

'Who is this guy? A lawyer?' Aaron thought.

He felt uneasy and turned to his assistant. "Find out who this man is."

Tyler glanced over and quickly replied, "He should be Daniel Jones, a top lawyer from Novaria."

"From the Jones family?"

Aaron's brows furrowed. Another Jones.

No wonder!

With Susanna's ties to Austin, it wasn't shocking for a member of the Jones family to intervene. Yet, a sense of unease lingered.

Was Susanna becoming too involved with the Jones family?

Not long after, Susanna finished her business and prepared to leave the police station with Daniel.

As she passed Aaron, she didn't look up. They brushed past each other.

Outside, Susanna finally sighed with relief. Daniel hesitated before speaking, "Susanna, are you still close with Aaron?"

"No, we just ran into each other. You know I'm good friends with Maria, so Aaron thought he'd help me out," Susanna responded.

"Susanna, is that really all?"

Susanna felt a bit guilty and glanced at Daniel. "Why are you suddenly asking about this, Daniel?"

"Cause from what I know, you came to the police station with Dick to testify against Aaron for intentional injury. But just now, you said you remembered wrong. Susanna, is there some grudge between you and Aaron?" Daniel asked.

Susanna was at a loss for words, surprised by how much Daniel knew. She couldn't keep it hidden any longer.

She pursed her lips. "I initially thought Dick was being bullied, but later I found out he wasn't a good person and deserved to be beaten. That's why I changed my statement."

Daniel sensed that Susanna wasn't telling the whole truth but could tell she was reluctant to discuss it, so he didn't push. However, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something peculiar about Susanna's relationship with Aaron.

Susanna and Daniel left the police station together, and she went straight back to school since she had classes in the afternoon.

Back at school, Susanna felt uneasy, like something was about to go down.

Her counselor approached her after class. "Susanna, the school's hosting a music festival next week. It's a big deal. It lines up with our previous design project, and you'll be in charge of designing the concert setup. Can you handle it?"

"Yeah, no problem."

Susanna was excited about the concert. Being in charge meant she'd definitely get a good spot to watch.

"Here are the keys to the auditorium. Go check it out. If you have any ideas or requests, let us know. The school will try to meet your design needs. We want to impress the team and give our top music students a shot to join them."

"Don't worry, I'll do my best," Susanna assured.

Representing the school, she had to nail the concert setup.

"Susanna, I've heard the team manager is pretty picky. If they give you a hard time, try to bear with it," the counselor reminded.

"Okay, I understand."

With the keys in hand, Susanna headed straight to the auditorium to scope out the venue.

But soon after she got there, a group of people showed up, clearly not from the school based on their clothes.

"Wow, so this is the auditorium. It's big but kinda shabby."

"I don't know what the boss is thinking, having us hold a music festival at this school. It's unheard of."

Hearing their conversation, Susanna figured out who they were.

After eavesdropping for a bit, she tried to slip away quietly through the side exit, but she accidentally knocked over a trash can, making a loud noise.

"Who's there?"

"We see you over there. Why are you eavesdropping?"

Susanna knew she couldn't hide. If she sneaked away and rumors spread about the auditorium having issues, it would be on her.

She took a deep breath and stepped out from her hiding spot, facing everyone.

At that moment, Susanna saw a familiar face in the crowd—Erica.

Seeing Erica, Susanna was surprised. What was she doing here?

She hadn't seen Erica in a long time. After the first day of the school project, Erica disappeared. Rumor had it she went back to Novaria.

A man in a floral shirt looked at Susanna with displeasure. "Are you a paparazzo? What are you trying to sneakily photograph?"

Susanna explained calmly, "I'm not a paparazzo. I'm a student here and the person in charge of setting up the auditorium for this event."

Erica smirked, "Peter Carter, she's not a paparazzo. She won first place in the last competition, so she's in charge of the setup. There shouldn't be any issues."

"A woman with no performance experience, winning an award means nothing. Our music team is world-class and only performs in the best environments. This shabby auditorium will only lower our standards. Do they think we belong on a college campus?" Peter was picky.

Hearing this, Susanna realized they were indeed hard to please. But since they were a top team, she had to accommodate them.

She forced a smile. "Mr. Carter, what are your requirements for the setup?"

He countered with a question, "Can you play the piano?"

Erica sneered, "She's a country orphan. She probably hasn't even touched a piano."
