Chapter 446 Have You Considered Personal Issues?
Susanna jumped in to back up Michael, saying, "Edward, chill out. Everyone's swamped with work. Love should just happen, you know? Why you always gotta be so old-school about dating?"
Edward shot Susanna a look. It was obvious to everyone that Michael had a thing for Susanna, except Susanna herself. Otherwise, why else would Michael still be single?
Michael let out a breath he didn't know he was holding, but something still felt off.
He knew Susanna didn't see him that way, so he'd just been her silent protector all these years, never spilling his own feelings.
Edward turned to Michael and said, "Hey, come with me for a sec."
Even though he didn't want Susanna marrying just any guy, Michael had been around for four years, had a solid character, and no drama. He was a decent dude.
As Michael walked away, Susanna got a bit anxious. Did Edward know about Aaron and was gonna grill Michael about it?
But she trusted Michael. They'd talked before coming here, and he promised to keep her secret. That thought calmed her down.
Lillian, sitting nearby, put down her fork and asked innocently, "Mommy, is Uncle Edward setting up a date for Godfather?"
Susanna paused and said, "Not sure, maybe."
Aviana looked at her and asked, "Susanna, what do you think of Michael?"
"Michael's awesome. He's good-looking, comes from a nice family, and has no bad rep. He's serious about relationships and doesn't just fall for anyone. So, his standards must be high, and regular girls probably don't catch his eye."
Hearing Susanna, Aviana realized she wasn't really into Michael.
"And another thing: Michael's a workaholic. He's always busy with surgeries and research. To be with him, you gotta get and accept his work life. Who can date someone who vanishes for half a month because of work? So, if you're thinking of setting him up, keep that in mind."
Arthur nodded and said, "Yeah, Susanna, you're right."
Arthur glanced at Aviana, sensing that Edward and Aviana were trying to match Susanna and Michael.
But he thought Michael's job was too demanding. If Susanna ended up with Michael, she'd be alone most of the time. What good is a husband like that? He didn't want Susanna to deal with that kind of loneliness.
Aviana picked up on Arthur's vibe. She then looked at Lillian and asked, "Do you like Uncle Michael?"
"Yeah, I do." Lillian nodded seriously.
Aviana continued, "Do you think Uncle Michael would make a good dad?"
Lillian blinked all innocent-like and said, "Uncle Michael's always been my godfather."
Susanna suddenly got what Aviana was hinting at. Was she trying to set her up with Michael?
Lillian then ditched her fork and bolted, leaving the three of them at the table.
Susanna turned to Aviana and asked, "Aviana, what's that supposed to mean?"
"Susanna, since you brought it up, I'll be straight. You've been single for ages, and now that you've got your memory back and everything's cool, maybe it's time to think about your love life. Michael's been around for years, taking care of Charles. Edward and I think he's a solid choice."
"Hold up."
Susanna quickly poured herself a glass of juice, taking a few sips to chill out. She hadn't thought about her love life in years, let alone dating Michael.
Aviana looked at her and asked, "Susanna, you don't like him?"
"Aviana, Michael and I are tight, but I see him as a brother. What you said just now made things kinda awkward."
Susanna had never thought about getting romantic with Michael.
"Alright, we were just throwing it out there, not trying to push you."
"Aviana, I get you and Edward mean well, but I haven't thought about personal stuff. Charles's health isn't great, and I'm happy staying with you guys. That's enough for me."
Susanna was content with her current life, way better than her rough days as an orphan.
Arthur chimed in seriously, "You're our little princess. Even if you never get married, it's cool. We will always have your back."
Aviana nodded and added, "Exactly. If you don't get married, I'm with you. We just got the wrong idea seeing you and Michael together."
A bit later, Michael came down from the study, and Susanna was waiting in the hall.
When she saw him, she asked, "What did Edward say? Did he try to set you up?"
Michael looked at her with a complicated expression and said, "Yeah, pretty much."
Edward had grilled him to see if he was good enough for Susanna.
"Michael, don't sweat Edward's words. He's probably just echoing what the family thinks."
"And you? Have you thought about personal stuff?"
Susanna paused and replied, "I haven't. You know Charles's health isn't great, and I can't focus on relationships."
"Then that's a relief."
Hearing this, Susanna was taken aback, like she just realized something.
