Chapter 381 I'm Really Not Your Ex-Wife
Susanna heard what he said and replied cautiously, "I'm planning to take Lillian back to Novaria once you're settled in the hospital."
"So, that's tomorrow?"
"Yeah, Lillian needs time to get into the vacuum chamber and get ready for your bone marrow donation."
Susanna looked at Aaron and noticed his eyes were all gloomy, like a thick fog impossible to see through.
She took a deep breath and went on, "Mr. Abbott, you know once Lillian's in the vacuum chamber, she can only wait for your bone marrow. If not, she's got no other option but death."
"If you don't trust me, why not let Lillian stay in Lindwell for treatment? The hospital here has a vacuum chamber too. We can go through this together, and you won't have to worry about me bailing."
"That's not happening!"
Susanna shot back. Lillian staying in Lindwell was a no-go; they'd be exposed.
Aaron's eyes narrowed. "Why?"
"Like I said, Lillian's recovery will be better in Novaria. It's her home, after all."
Hearing that, Aaron felt a bit uneasy. "But Lillian's from Lindwell."
"But she grew up in Novaria, so she's a Novarian. I was just talking off the top of my head; it's not that I don't trust you."
Susanna smiled and even poured Aaron some water. "Mr. Abbott, don't take it to heart."
Aaron saw her sly look and thought about how she'd been full of lies lately, not a single truth. But when it came to Lillian, she was super humble.
Soon, the waiter brought the food.
In front of Susanna was a fancy ice cream. She picked up a spoon. "This is the restaurant's signature dessert, right? It's pretty famous. I'll see if it's any different from Novaria's."
She took a couple of bites and found a big diamond ring inside the ice cream.
She was stunned. "There's a diamond ring in here. Did the restaurant mix up someone's proposal ice cream?"
Susanna took out the ring and placed it on a napkin. "We need to call the waiter."
Aaron said in a low voice, "No need."
"Why not? This is clearly for a proposal. I didn't think this place would make such a rookie mistake."
Then, it hit Susanna. She looked at Aaron and asked, "Is this from you?"
In a place like this, such a mistake shouldn't happen.
So, this ring could only be something Aaron wanted to give her.
Aaron put down his fork and looked at her seriously. "It is."
"Mr. Abbott, why are you giving me a diamond ring out of the blue? Are you proposing?"
Susanna cleaned the ring. It was obviously very valuable. She didn't expect a serious guy like Aaron to be so romantic!
"You could say that."
"Mr. Abbott, but we haven't spent much time together. Isn't this proposal a bit too quick?"
Susanna felt something was off but couldn't put her finger on it.
She initially used the special medicine as an excuse to become Aaron's girlfriend, but they actually didn't have much contact after that, let alone any progress in their relationship.
But suddenly, Aaron's attitude towards her changed.
He looked up. "Yeah, we haven't hung out much these past four years, but that's gonna change."
Susanna's face went stiff. "Mr. Abbott, what are you getting at? I'm not following."
"Susanna, stop the act. It's pointless."
Her heart started pounding.
Susanna's mind was racing, trying to figure out where she slipped up. Why was Aaron saying this? Did he find some proof?
"Not saying anything? That's a yes."
Susanna smiled. "Mr. Abbott, even though I look like your ex-wife, we're not the same person."
"Then how do you explain this?"
Aaron pulled out his phone, and soon, she got a new message on Facebook.
Susanna picked up her phone and saw a photo of her and Madison in the lobby.
Seeing the photo, her breath caught.
She was busted.
She had noticed Aaron acting weird since yesterday.
"Susanna, got anything to say?"
After seeing the photo, Susanna put the phone down and said calmly, "I have nothing to say."
Aaron leaned back, giving her a hard look. "No explanation? Why'd you fake your death and leave? And the baby you were carrying, is it Lillian?"
Hearing this, Susanna looked at him seriously. "Fine, no more pretending."
She slipped the ring on her finger. "Actually, I really like this ring, but I pretended to be indifferent to seem less excited."
Aaron's eyes narrowed. "What are you getting at?"
"I mean, I think you're a great catch—handsome, rich, and good to Lillian. So I played hard to get and came to Lindwell to chase you, but I had to play it cool. And since I look like your ex-wife, I visited Madison to learn more about her and get closer to you."
"Susanna, keep spinning your tales. You think I'll buy that?"
"If Mr. Abbott doesn't believe me, you can ask Madison. Even though I think you're great, I don't want to be anyone's stand-in."
After saying this, Susanna looked at him earnestly and innocently, but inside, she was freaking out.
They stared each other down for a while.
Aaron tapped the table. "Still don't buy it."
"Then what will it take for you to believe me?"
"I'll believe you if you let Lillian stay in Lindwell for treatment."
Susanna's eyes widened. "That's not happening."
"Why not? You wanna use me to cure Lillian and then split? You think I'm that dumb?"
Aaron had Susanna's game figured out.
If she took Lillian back to Novaria, the Jones family's turf, finding Susanna and Lillian again would be nearly impossible for him.
Susanna cursed inwardly, wishing she hadn't visited Madison so soon.
But sooner or later, she would've been found out. She hadn't expected Aaron to have someone watching Madison instead of tailing her.
No wonder Edward hadn't told Madison she was still alive.
What now?
Susanna forced herself to stay calm. "Mr. Abbott, you've got the wrong person."
"Prove me wrong by leaving Lillian in Lindwell for treatment! That's my condition!"
