Chapter 383 That's My Daughter

Susanna let out a big sigh and said, "Lillian heard from the nurse that the surgery might make her lose her hair, so now she’s refusing to take the meds or get the shots."

Aaron frowned, "For real? It’ll make her lose her hair?"

"Yeah, it’s a side effect. She’s supposed to go into the vacuum chamber soon, but she’s been super upset, and I can’t calm her down."

Susanna gave a tired smile, looking pretty worn out.

Seeing this, Aaron said, "I’ll go have a chat with her."

With that, Aaron pushed open the door and walked into the room.

Susanna quickly put on a more cheerful face and followed him in.

Lillian was curled up in a little ball, tears still clinging to her eyes, her long lashes wet and clumped together.

Seeing Lillian looking so sad, Aaron’s heart melted. He asked, "Why are you crying? Are you scared?"

"Scared? Me? No way, I’m not scared at all!"

Lillian sneaked a glance at him, feeling a bit guilty because she was pretending to be sad about losing her hair.

She had just found out that Charles would lose his hair from chemo, which made her cry.

"I got you a gift. Open it and see."

Aaron placed the gift box in front of Lillian. Looking at her face, which looked so much like Susanna’s, his usually cold heart softened a bit.

He hadn’t expected Lillian to be his daughter.

No wonder he felt a weird sense of familiarity when he met her outside Radiant Valley Airport.

Luckily, he had been nice enough to take the lost Lillian to the hotel; otherwise, who knows what could’ve happened to her.

Over the years, he had definitely owed Lillian a lot.

Lillian opened the gift box and was stunned to see a cake inside. "Is this a cake?"

"Yep, I heard it’s super tasty."

Susanna hadn’t expected Aaron to bring a cake, which was definitely a gift Lillian would love.

She walked over, grabbed a plate, and cut a small piece for Lillian.

Lillian pouted, "I want the big piece."

"Nope, too many sweets aren’t good for you."

As soon as Susanna finished speaking, Aaron placed the big piece of cake in front of Lillian. "You can have it today."

"Thanks, Uncle Aaron!"

Lillian beamed with joy, hugging the plate and eating happily like a little squirrel.

Susanna felt a bit helpless but didn’t stop her. She tasted the cake herself and found it pretty good.

Aaron looked at Lillian and asked, "Do you know the story behind this cake?"

"Yeah! The evil king captured the princess, and the great chef made a cake called Courage for the villagers to eat. After eating it, they weren’t scared of the evil king anymore, and they defeated him and rescued the princess."

Lillian still had cream on the corner of her mouth.

Aaron smiled and said, "That’s right. You should have courage after eating this cake too."

Hearing this, Lillian lowered her head and silently ate her cake.

Seeing this, Susanna quickly jumped in, "Give her some time to get ready."

This delay was exactly what she needed.

As long as Aaron started donating bone marrow, she could arrange for someone to take the sample and quietly leave Lindwell with Lillian.

Now, she needed to lower Aaron’s suspicions.

After the three of them had dinner together, Susanna saw Aaron out of the room.

She thought for a moment and said, "Thanks for the cake. Lillian’s mood has gotten a lot better."

Aaron glanced at her and asked, "When will Lillian start?"

"That depends on when she's ready. I can't push her. She's still so young and doesn't get it all."

Susanna looked down, her voice heavy with sadness. "I feel so guilty towards Lillian. She grew up without a dad and now she's sick. She hates hospitals; I wish I could take her place."

After she finished speaking, Aaron suddenly hugged her, his eyes filled with guilt.

Susanna kept her lips pressed together without moving; she was deliberately saying these words for Aaron to hear. Aaron must have figured out her identity, so he also knew that Lillian was his daughter.

She said it on purpose to gain his sympathy.

After a while, Aaron's deep voice came from above. "She'll get better soon. The doc said that as long as I donate bone marrow, Lillian will bounce back quickly. If there are any issues later, I can help."

After all, she was his daughter, and he should do whatever it took.

Susanna wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. "I hope nothing goes wrong."

Aaron handed her a tissue and said, "Spend more time with Lillian these days. I'll donate the bone marrow as planned. The sample can be stored, so there's no need to rush Lillian."

"Okay, I understand."

Susanna took the tissue and wiped her tears. "It's been years since I cried."

"I'll do everything I can to ensure Lillian's safety. You don't have to worry about these things anymore."

Aaron's voice was firm and powerful, his gaze deep as if hinting at something.

Susanna caught his implication and nodded. "Thank you."

"Get some rest."

With that, he left.

Susanna watched him enter the elevator, her expression becoming more neutral.

She knew she had just pretended to be pitiful, successfully concealing it from him, but it was only temporary.

Once he donated the bone marrow, he would likely confront her about everything.

She needed to act quickly.

Susanna took out her phone and called Michael, needing to make proper arrangements to ensure they got Aaron's donated bone marrow.

Upstairs, Aaron returned to the ward and found an unexpected visitor.

Aaron's voice was cold. "What are you doing here?"

"I heard you were in hospital and I thought you had some serious illness, so I came specially to check on you. Turns out you're here to donate bone marrow. Who is so important that you're willing to donate bone marrow for them?"

Sam was shocked by Aaron's kindness, sensing that this wasn't a simple matter, so he came to find out.

Aaron glanced at the nosy Sam and said, "Lillian is sick."

Sam paused in surprise and asked, "Nova's daughter?"

"Yes, it's her."

Sam's casual expression disappeared, and he asked worriedly, "What's the situation? Is it serious? Where is she?"

"She's downstairs. It's not too serious. As long as the bone marrow transplant goes smoothly, she should be fine."

At least he had the financial means to ensure Lillian would live a carefree life.

Sam stood up and said, "I'll go check on her."

"Stop."

Aaron called Sam back, "Go tomorrow. It's her bedtime now; don't disturb her."

Sam sat back down and compromised, "Alright, I'll buy some gifts to cheer her up tomorrow. After all, I'm her dad."

Before he could finish, Aaron glared at him. "What are you talking about? she's my daughter."

Sam was confused.

What's going on?
