Chapter 182 Dick Got His Leg Broken

When Harper told Susanna the news, her sleepiness disappeared in an instant.

"What happened to Dick?" she asked, suspicious.

"He got hurt pretty bad. He's in the hospital now. I'm all alone here and don't know anyone, so I had to call you. Can you come over?" Harper pleaded.

"Don't worry, Aunt Harper. I'm on my way."

Susanna quickly changed clothes, but as she was about to leave, Madison stopped her. "Have some breakfast first. It's still early."

She grabbed a few bites and took a donut to eat on the way.

She took a cab straight to the hospital and called Dick's mom. "Aunt Harper, I'm here. Are you in the emergency room?"

"No, we're in the inpatient department, room 306. Come on over."

Susanna found it strange. If it was serious, why wasn't he still in the emergency room? How did he get to the inpatient department so fast?

Since she was already there, she went to the inpatient room and saw Dick leaning against the headboard. His leg was in a cast, and his face was bruised and swollen, like he'd been beaten up.

Her heart skipped a beat. Was it Brian or Austin?

Yesterday afternoon, after Susanna told them what Dick had done, Brian did say he wanted to teach Dick a lesson or break his leg.

She had managed to talk him out of it, thinking nothing would happen. But now, Dick was really in the hospital with a broken leg!

Susanna felt guilty as she walked into the room. "Dick, how did you get hurt?"

When Dick saw Susanna, his expression changed to one of fear. He tried to say something, but his mouth was injured and wrapped in bandages, making it hard to understand him.

Harper quickly smiled and said, "Susanna, you're finally here. Dick suddenly got hurt, and I didn't know what to do. He was covered in blood. I thought it was something serious, but luckily, it's just a fracture. He's otherwise okay."

Susanna nodded. "It's good that he's okay. How did he get hurt all of a sudden?"

She needed to find out what happened. This was an assault, a criminal act.

Harper said angrily, "He was beaten up. I don't know who could be so cruel! Dick is well-liked and a good citizen who does business fairly and even helps others. I can't understand why someone would beat him up. Susanna, do you know if Dick has offended anyone?"

Susanna's expression stiffened. "I'm not sure, but Dick is usually well-liked. Who would dare to beat him up like this?"

Dick was fine just yesterday afternoon.

Harper also found it strange and looked at Dick with concern. "I've already called the police. Let's see what they say when they get here."

Susanna's face changed slightly. "You called the police?"

"Yes, the police should be here soon."

Susanna turned to Dick. "Dick, do you remember who attacked you? It will help when the police arrive."

Dick shrank back, looking scared.

Aunt Harper handed him a notebook and pen. "Dick, if you can't speak, write it down."

Dick took the pen but hesitated, not knowing what to write.

Last night had been particularly long for him. After Susanna's brother had revealed his intentions, he was seething with anger and devised a plan to charm Susanna. After all, women just need to be coaxed.

But after a few steps, he was pushed into a car and taken to a dark place. Dick never thought such things happened outside of TV shows. Experiencing it himself, he realized how terrifying it was. No one could save him. No matter how much he begged, he was beaten up and knew nothing more.

He believed he might die there, but the masked individual warned him, "Keep your distance from other men's wives! If not, next time, it won't just be your leg."

When Dick woke up, he was lying on the street and was later taken to the hospital. Now, Dick was afraid to close his eyes, fearing he was still in that dark room, drenched in cold sweat.

He kept wondering whose wife it was. He had done some design work for wealthy clients and interacted with some rich ladies. Could he have gotten too close to one of them? No way. There was one rich lady who liked him, but she was too old, so he rejected her and didn't follow up on that project.

But seeing Susanna now, a thought flashed through his mind. Could it be Susanna's husband?

Dick suddenly understood. If it was Susanna's husband, it all made sense. After all, he was only pursuing Susanna. But wasn't Susanna getting a divorce? Was her husband in the mafia?

Dick looked at Susanna with a complicated expression. If it was her husband, he had to give up on Susanna. He needed to stay alive first.

Susanna's expression was strained as she pondered, 'Did Dick suspect that it was my brother?' She speculated that Brian might have warned Dick, saying, "If you come near my sister again, I'll break your leg." Brian said it, and then Dick got beaten up. Even a fool could guess who did it.

Harper was anxious. "Dick, write it down. You must know or have a suspect. When the police come, you need to tell them so they can catch the culprit."

Susanna glanced at Dick. "Yes, Dick, write it down."

At that moment, Harper received a call and left the room. "Yes, I called the police."

Soon, only two people were left in the room.

Dick wrote a few words on the paper: [Susanna, did I offend you? Why did you do this to me?]

Susanna quickly explained, "Dick, I'm sorry. You know my brother only wants the best for me. They found out about the rumors you spread, so they got angry and beat you up. I really tried to stop them."

A look of surprise flickered in Dick's eyes as he thought, 'Was that her brother? Not her husband?'
