Chapter 95 She Chooses Compromise
Susanna saw Maud's shocked expression and couldn't help but find it a bit amusing.
However, this statement was made last time when Grace and Andrew came to the villa to ask for money, said deliberately to get rid of them.
But she didn't expect Aaron to confront Maud directly, making her feel embarrassed.
The next moment, Aaron's deep gaze fell on her. She paused for a moment, wondering why he was looking at her while she didn't say those words.
Aaron coldly said, "Why did you transfer three thousand to me?"
Susanna was stunned. "This is the money for your mother, but I don't have her Facebook, so I had to trouble you to transfer it to her."
Aaron turned to Maud. "What's going on exactly?"
Maud explained, "Just now, Grace and Andrew came over asking for money, and I found it troublesome, so I sent three thousand, which is just a small amount anyway."
He frowned. "You shouldn't have given them this money."
Susanna's foster parents were very greedy. If someone gave them money, they would succeed in their intentions and keep forcing Susanna to give them money in same ways.
"I know you think spending this money is not worth it, it's the right thing to do if it can solve this problem."
Aaron pursed his lips, wondering, 'since when did he say spending this money wasn't worth it, he just couldn't spend this money!'
Susanna sarcastically smiled and said, "If there's nothing else, I'll leave now. Don't let them in if they show up again in the future."
After saying that, Susanna left without looking back.
It was pitch black outside at this point, there was no public transportation, nor could a taxi be hailed.
Soon, a black luxury car stopped beside her, and the driver rolled down the window. "Susanna, get in, I'll give you a ride."
"No need to bother."
Susanna didn't get in the car, but the driver continued, "Susanna, you can't hail a cab here, let me take you. It's on my way to pick something up for the boss."
She walked a distance and realized she couldn't hail a cab, so she reluctantly got into the car. Between safety and dignity, she chose to compromise and protect her safety.
Sitting in the car, she felt a bit uneasy, as glanced at the driver, saying, "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
The driver glanced at Susanna in the rear-view mirror and breathed a sigh of relief. He couldn't explain it when he went back without completing the task.
While waiting at a traffic light, the driver freed up a hand to message Assistant Lee on Facebook: [I've successfully picked up Susanna.]
On the other end, after receiving the message, Assistant Lee hurried upstairs, only to hear Aaron and Maud arguing.
Maud was a bit puzzled. "You've divorced Susanna, Why haven’t you make room in your wardrobe? What if Erica moves in and sees all this?"
Aaron looked a bit impatient. "Mom, Erica and I just made a deal to be in fake engagement, I won't actually marry her."
"Aaron, are you clear? What's wrong with Erica? She's good-looking, obedient and understanding, especially with a wealthy background. She will definitely be your good wife in the future and help the Abbott family go further. What fake engagement, you two should be together."
Maud couldn't understand. If he could accept someone like Susanna, why couldn't he accept someone even better like Erica?
Aaron rubbed his temples. "Mom, I'm not three years old now, I'm thirty. I have my own life, don't come into my room randomly, and don't meddle in my life!"
Maud was instantly infuriated. "You're my son, can't I come and see you?"
"You've seen it, now you can leave." Aaron closed the bedroom door directly, not leaving any room for sentimentality.
Despite being angry, Maud couldn't do anything to her son but could only helplessly say, "You're getting engaged to Erica this weekend, be careful dealing with it. Erica's brothers are hard nuts to crack. Don't offend them."
Aaron frowned. "Mom, I’m going to have a meeting now, you should go back."
"Don't work too hard, I'll leave first."
Maud never disturbed him while he was working; whatever she had to say, she kept it to herself.
After Maud left, Aaron returned to the downstairs hall. Assistant Lee immediately said, "Boss, the driver has picked up Susanna."
"Okay." Aaron leaned back on the sofa, a hint of worry in his expression, then turned and said, "You can go off duty too."
Assistant Lee then left the villa after successfully completing the task.
Aaron took out his phone and saw the Facebook message from Susanna and the transfer of three thousand dollars, which seemed particularly glaring to him.
He pursed his lips and messaged: [Take the money back!]
After sending the message, a dialogue box popped up immediately with a red dot, [You are not friends with the other party, add them as a friend before sending a message.]
The freezing cold instantly fell on the atmosphere, and Aaron stared at the page for a while before calling Susanna. Did she delete him?
On the other end, Susanna saw his call while still in the car on her way home.
She didn't want to answer at the beginning, but since she had taken a ride from Aaron's driver, it didn't seem good not to answer.
When she picked up, she heard a man's voice gritting his teeth. "Susanna, how dare you delete me!"
Susanna smirked, "Your mom asked me to."
"Do you always obey Maud like this? If she tells you to delete, you just delete?"
Susanna felt silent, unsure how to respond to this. Maud wasn't her mom!
Silence fell on both ends of the phone.
Susanna lowered her eyelids and said, "With our current relationship, keeping each other as Facebook friends serves no purpose. It's better to delete and cut off contact.
"Are you saying we should cut off contact? How do I explain this to Grandma?"
"Grandma won't check your phone to see if we've unfriended each other on Facebook. Besides, after divorce, we have no relationship. A decent ex should be like strangers, no longer in contact."
The driver, hearing Susanna's words, felt sweat beading on his forehead. Why were they arguing again?
"Alright." Aaron grunted and hung up the phone.
Susanna glanced out the window and then touched her slightly bulging belly. They shouldn't have contact each other anymore since divorced.
She looked at her phone and wondered if she should change her number when her child was born, making it inconvenient for her to post updates.
After returning home, Madison looked a bit anxious as she said, "Susanna, Grace and Andrew know about the government compensation for us. They went to the old neighborhood this afternoon. What should we do?"
"Don't worry, my brothers said they would come over, We would be safe with their showing up. Besides, the property certificate is in your name. If you don't sign, they can't proceed with anything."
"That's good. When the government allocates another house, you can find a better man for your next marriage. After all, you have two houses."
"I haven't thought about a new relationships for now."
"You have to think about it. You need someone to take care of you from being bullied in the future."
Susanna knew that what Madison meant was for her own good, but in modern society, marriage wasn't necessary as long as she could earn a living.
After comforting Madison, she received a call from Edward. "Susanna, we're coming to Novaria by plane tomorrow."
Hearing that Edward and Aviana were coming tomorrow, brightened up Susanna's mood. "Okay, what time is your flight tomorrow? I'll come pick you up."
The next day, Susanna went to the airport early to pick up Edward and Aviana.
As she got out of the taxi, a red Maserati pulled up next to her, looking somewhat familiar. It wasn't until Elaine and Erica opened the car door that she realized...
