Chapter 439 Mr. Abbott's True Feelings Can't Be Hidden
Aaron was floored when he heard that question, his eyes going all deer-in-the-headlights.
Love?
A guy like him? He'd never even thought about what love was!
"Aaron, the fact you can't answer that shows you don't really care about Susanna. So why keep stringing her along?"
Aviana's voice was calm, but she had Aaron backed into a corner with no way out!
Aaron just stood there, feeling more trapped than when those bodyguards had him earlier.
He tried to speak, but nothing came out.
Aviana smirked and said, "If you don't like Susanna and you can't get Lillian back, why bother? Your marriage with Susanna was a mess from the start, and you were the one who wanted the divorce, right?"
Sweat started to form on Aaron's forehead, and he had no clue how to answer Aviana.
He knew any excuse now would be pointless.
"Mr. Abbott, just leave and don't come back."
As Aviana turned away, Aaron's raspy voice called out, "I do care about her."
"Mr. Abbott, you don't love her! Is it guilt or love you're feeling?"
Aviana's words hit hard, leaving Aaron no room to dodge.
Aaron said in a low voice, "Honestly, I don't know what love is either. Susanna is different to me. If this is love..."
"Mr. Abbott, there are no 'ifs' in love."
Aviana cut him off, her eyes steady and strong. "If you don't love Susanna, then you have no right to mess with her. We just want to protect her as her family. We should try to understand each other, right?"
Aaron stood there like he'd just lost a battle, totally crushed.
Aviana's words had really shaken him up.
He looked at the hospital room door but didn't have the guts to open it and go in.
Meanwhile, Aviana walked into the room and saw Susanna looking guilty. "Did you hear all that?"
Susanna replied awkwardly, "What? I couldn't hear anything from outside."
"Still playing dumb, huh? One of your shoes is right by the door!"
Aviana kicked the shoe over, and Susanna, seeing it, knew she was caught.
She sat on the bed and asked, "Aviana, why'd you ask him that?"
"Ask what?"
Susanna hesitated, "The one about whether he loves me or not."
"So what, can't I ask?"
"It's kinda embarrassing. We've been divorced for years, and you ask him if he loves me, like I still care about him."
Susanna thought Aviana would tear into Aaron, but instead, she asked if he loved her!
That question totally threw her off.
Aviana put the fast food in front of her and looked at her. "Why are you so worked up?"
"Am I worked up?" Susanna held the plate, hesitating. "I just think it's an awkward question."
"Susanna, you never used to care about this stuff. What's up with you today?"
Susanna answered honestly, "Aviana, I've got my memory back and remember everything from before."
"What? Is it because of the concussion?"
Susanna nodded, "Yeah, but even without the concussion, I was starting to remember bits and pieces. I know you had a hypnotist erase that part of my memory for my own good, but I don't care anymore."
"Do you really not care anymore?"
Susanna answered seriously, "That's right, I'm now the heir of the Jones family. I got everything I need. Why would I care about Aaron?"
"Good to hear. You heard him, Aaron doesn't love you. Maybe it's just guilt or the kid that keeps him hanging around, saying he wants to make it up to you. Don't take his words to heart."
Susanna fiddled with her fork, head down. "I know."
She had known four years ago that Aaron didn't love her.
Now she wouldn't be naive enough to think Aaron stayed because he loved her!
"Susanna, Aaron's not the type to fall in love easily. Guys like him in the business world, they've long sold their sincerity."
Susanna suddenly looked up, asking earnestly, "What about Edward?"
Edward was a businessman too.
Aviana paused and explained, "That's different. These men might not have true hearts, but once they fall for a woman, it's for life. It's tough to win their true hearts. They might be interested or attracted, but to make them truly fall in love, that's a whole different game."
"So, what does it take?"
"You gotta make them lose their minds, feel heart-wrenching pain, make them willing to die for you. Only then will they truly fall in love."
After Aviana finished, she looked at Susanna in surprise. "Susanna, you’re not thinking about Aaron, are you?"
"No, absolutely not. I was just curious. Aaron and I ended things four years ago."
Susanna lowered her head to eat, but Aviana's words kept echoing in her mind.
The idea that a guy like Aaron would lose his mind if he truly fell in love!
She couldn't picture Aaron losing his mind!
After finishing her meal, Susanna looked at Aviana and said, "I can stay in the hospital by myself, Aviana. You should head back before Edward finds out."
The last thing she wanted was for Edward to find out about this!
"But I don't feel right leaving you alone here."
"I'll message my brothers later and have them come over."
In the end, Aviana couldn't refuse Susanna's request and had to leave the hospital. As for Edward, it didn't matter if she didn't mention it for now.
After all, matters of the heart had to be handled by Susanna herself.
After finishing her meal, Susanna lay down to rest. The bump on her head still hurt a bit.
She had planned to visit Charles tomorrow, but with the bump on her head, she felt embarrassed to see him.
She could almost imagine Charles scolding her for being clumsy!
Lying in bed, unable to sleep, Susanna suddenly remembered that Maria was still lying in a hospital bed, unconscious, and she felt worried.
The reason she and Aaron had met in Radiant Valley was because Aaron had come to auction off a special medicine.
She closed her eyes and recalled the banquet from four years ago.
Someone had said Maria wanted to see her alone, so she went to the bedroom to find Maria.
But she was attacked from behind and knocked out.
As she was losing consciousness, she grabbed the assailant's ankle. The person was wearing high heels, clearly a woman.
There was also a butterfly tattoo on the woman's ankle.
