However, it seems that Austin was totally not vibing with this bodyguard, which was kinda a win for him.
Next thing you know, Austin's glaring at Francis, all hostile-like, "Who the hell are you?"
Francis, looking all awkward, goes, "Uh, Mr. Jones, hey. I work for Ms. Jones's company. We were supposed to grab dinner tonight, but then Ms. Jones ran into Kayle in the restroom and got smacked around by her."
Francis didn't really wanna explain, but if he didn't, he might end up in hot water with that bodyguard!
Everyone in Novaria knew how much Susanna's bros doted on her!
Hearing this, Austin finally got the gist and snapped, "The Thornberrys are outta line, laying hands on Susanna!"
But Austin still wasn't giving Aaron any love.
Then Austin noticed all his bodyguards were down, courtesy of Aaron, and grumbled, "Not bad. Someone, get more guys in here!"
No way was he letting Aaron show him up on his own turf.
Soon enough, a dozen more bodyguards rolled in. With the odds against him, Aaron was quickly on the back foot.
Francis watched, all conflicted, wondering why he didn't just bail.
'Is this dude trying to get himself killed?' Francis thought.
"Stop!"
Someone came outta the elevator, yelling for the beatdown to stop.
Austin, hearing the shout, looked up all pissed. Seeing it was Daniel, he sneered, "Why you stopping me? Every time Aaron shows up, he brings trouble for Susanna!"
The bodyguards paused.
Aaron was on the ground, looking rough, with some injuries and his sunglasses smashed and stomped on.
Daniel walked over, not even glancing at Aaron, and told Austin, "Too many eyes on us right now. If someone dies here, it’s gonna be a mess. If you wanna deal with him, do it somewhere private."
Francis was floored, thinking it was wild to talk about this in front of that bodyguard.
But Aaron stayed chill, not even flinching at the threat.
Daniel, being a lawyer and all, knew how to handle this stuff, so he stopped the bodyguards from going too far.
No way could Aaron have an "accident" here, not with witnesses around.
Daniel also shot a look at Francis, hinting there was an outsider present.
Francis quickly said, "Mr. Jones, don’t worry, I won’t say a word about what I saw. I’m totally on Ms. Jones’s side."
Daniel gave a fake smile, "Good. But you’ll need to sign a confidentiality agreement later."
As a lawyer, Daniel was all about that paper trail.
Austin was kinda annoyed. Last time at the airport, Brain’s crew had already roughed Aaron up. He thought Aaron had skipped town, but nope, still in Novaria!
What was Brain even doing?
Austin glared at the beat-up Aaron and snapped, "Why the hell are you still in Novaria?"
Aaron wiped the blood from his lip and said, all calm-like, "I wanna stick around and see Lillian get better before I bounce."
Austin and Daniel's faces went from zero to a hundred real quick. They were both thinking, 'does Aaron know the real deal about the bone marrow?'
Then Aaron added, "Lillian's my daughter too. I got every right to be here and watch her get better."
Austin finally let out a breath. Phew, Aaron didn't know the bone marrow was actually for Charles, not Lillian.
Daniel, ice-cold, said, "Susanna risked her life to bring Lillian into this world. We've all been there for her, raising Lillian with Susanna. You got no right to be here. If you're thinking about fighting for custody, forget it!"
Daniel had seen a ton of divorce cases. He knew what guys like Aaron were thinking. Aaron sticking around Novaria, hanging by Susanna's side, saying he'd leave after Lillian got better? Yeah, right. He was probably plotting to fight for custody.
Lillian and Charles were Jones family kids, no way anyone was taking them away!
Aaron slowly got up, leaning on the wall, and gave the Jones crew a cold stare, "I ain't fighting for Lillian's custody. You can chill about that."
But in his head, he was thinking bigger. He wanted Lillian and Susanna back in his life. Of course, he kept that to himself. Saying it out loud might mean he wouldn't walk out of the hospital in one piece.
"Aaron, at least you know your place. But even if you wanted to fight for custody, you wouldn't stand a chance. Remember what I do for a living? If you won custody, I'd be the worst lawyer ever."
Daniel had prepped for this from the moment Lillian and Charles were born. Aaron didn't have a shot.
Austin eyed Aaron's clothes and shot a look at Marcus, "Wasn't there a bodyguard who had a scandal with Susanna recently? Is it him?"
Marcus nodded, looking like he wished he could disappear.
Austin lost it. He grabbed Aaron by the collar, "Aaron, you got the nerve to hide by Susanna's side!"
Aaron, stone-faced, replied, "I just wanna see Lillian get better. No other plans."
"Lillian's doing fine. She'll be healthy soon and doesn't need your fake concern," Austin snapped.
Daniel chimed in, "Before you showed up, Susanna was doing great. The moment you appeared, she got hurt again."
Austin shoved Aaron away, "I'm warning you, leave Novaria now and never come back, or next time, you won't be so lucky!"
Aaron stumbled, barely catching himself on the wall. He looked dead serious, "I said, once I see Lillian recover, I'll leave Novaria."
Austin's rage hit the roof, "You got a death wish? Think I won't make you disappear? This is Novaria. I got plenty of ways to make you vanish without a trace."
In a flash, Austin grabbed a scalpel and swung it at Aaron...
