Chapter 100 eight months later

Eight months later in Fondaniss, Amelia, who was heavily pregnant, sat on a garden lounge chair, her belly protruding and her ankles swollen. Susan massaged her feet as they chatted. Amelia was in the final stretch of her pregnancy, with only ten days left until her due date. Susan advised her to be extra cautious during this time, as the due date could vary. Amelia nodded and found a comfortable position to lean on.

Spring had just passed, and the sunlight was warm and soothing. Feeling exhausted, Amelia wanted to doze off, but Susan suggested she go inside and rest due to the unpredictable weather that could easily lead to a cold if she fell asleep outside. Amelia opened her eyes in response to Susan's suggestion and reluctantly agreed. Due to her heavy body, getting up was a struggle.

Just as she managed to support herself, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her belly—an obvious sign of contractions. Concerned, Susan looked at her and asked what was wrong. Vincent, who had prepared some snacks for Amelia, noticed the situation and hurried over.

Amelia nodded lightly and looked at Vincent. "Dad, quickly bring the birthing bag. We're going to the hospital."

Vincent nodded entered the house, quickly grabbing the pre-packed bag. Everything was ready as he walked out of the yard with his luggage. With one hand free, he nervously supported Amelia, his expression tense.

"Are you in labor?" he asked.

Amelia nodded lightly. "It seems so."

Just as they were leaving the yard, Daniel returned in his car. Seeing Vincent with the luggage, he hurried over.

"Is Amelia going into labor?" he asked.

Vincent nodded. "Amelia is a doctor, so she should know."

Her contractions were so evident this time that, as a doctor, Amelia was confident in her judgment.

Upon arriving at the hospital and going through a check-up, there were no signs that her baby was ready to be born. It was just false labor.

Amelia sat in the car on their way back home, feeling awkward. She had taken some obstetrics and gynecology courses during this period, but she didn't expect this misunderstanding to occur.

Vincent and Susan sat in the backseat, while Amelia sat in the front passenger seat, awkwardly laughing and looking at Daniel. "I must not have studied hard enough and I've caused everyone to worry."

Daniel's eyes remained gentle, and he spoke softly. "Even though you are a doctor, it's normal to make misjudgments as a first-time mother." As Daniel spoke, he reached out and ruffled Amelia's hair. "It's alright."

Amelia also smiled lightly. As the two chatted, a black luxury car drove past them.

Frederick listened attentively to Felix's work report. When he glanced out the window, he suddenly saw the face that had always been on his mind. She seemed a bit more plump than before, shyly smiling like a teenage girl in a sweet and passionate relationship.

Frederick stared at her through the car window, tight-lipped. He saw Daniel reach over and ruffle her hair, causing Frederick to clench his fist tightly, crumpling the papers in his hand.

After Felix finished the report and received no response from Frederick, he looked puzzled and turned to look at him in the back seat. Frederick was still fixedly staring at a small sedan outside through the window. The papers in Frederick's hand were crumpled and damaged from his tight grasp.

Felix immediately thought that Frederick must have seen Amelia. The destination they were heading to actually had another route that was closer. However, Frederick insisted on taking this route, clearly knowing that Rachel had arranged a place for Amelia to stay in this area. He was gambling on the chance to meet her.

These past few months, Frederick had pretended not to care about Amelia leaving, when in truth, his longing for Amelia was growing day by day.

"Mr. Hastings..." Felix spoke softly.

Frederick released the documents in his hands and lowered his head to organize them.

Felix couldn't see Frederick's expression clearly, but he heard him say in a low tone, "Let's wrap up the project today and return tomorrow."

Felix nodded without daring to raise any objections.

"Alright."

Frederick didn't continue speaking, and the atmosphere in the air became awkward. Felix didn't know what to say either.

A few days later, in the evening, Amelia suddenly remembered a set of experimental data. She wanted to confirm if her idea was correct, so she drove alone to the college laboratory.

Throughout the entire experiment, she was exceptionally focused, even enduring the faint pain in her stomach.

The experiment was successful and confirmed that her initial direction was wrong.

The sky outside the window had already turned dark, and Amelia sent a message to her mentor about the situation before closing the door to the lab and leaving.

As soon as she took a few steps, a sharp pain surged in her stomach.

This pain was more intense than any previous ones.

During the experiment, she had thought it was just false labor pains, but now the contractions were becoming more frequent, and she became nervous.

Amelia quickly took out her phone and called Susan.

Susan answered Amelia's call quickly, but Amelia was in too much pain to utter a single word.

Her painful appearance caught the attention of two fellow alumni, who joined forces to send her to the hospital. One of the alumni took Amelia's phone and informed Susan of the hospital's address.

After hanging up the phone, Susan immediately told Vincent that Amelia had gone to the hospital.

Upon hearing this, Vincent quickly picked up the birthing bag and also informed Rachel to go to the hospital.

Rachel had been involved in some business activities in Fondaniss during this period of time. After the activities concluded, she stayed in Fondaniss because it was close to Amelia's expected delivery time.

When they arrived at the hospital, Amelia was already prepared to enter the delivery room.

As her sister, Rachel was allowed to accompany her. In Fondaniss, this was a common practice, so no one questioned it.

After ten hours of labor, Amelia had exhausted all her strength.

Rachel tightly held Amelia's hand.

Amelia's forehead was covered in sweat, and Rachel kept wiping it with a handkerchief. The handkerchief had become soaked with Amelia's sweat.

Rachel was very anxious. After all, she had no experience in this matter.

"Maybe..." She was about to say that if a vaginal delivery wasn't possible, they should consider a cesarean section, when the baby was born.

Amelia's strength seemed to have been instantly depleted.

Amelia's baby's cry echoed through the delivery room. Rachel also breathed a sigh of relief, her eyes red.

After the midwife nurse cleaned the baby, she handed her to Rachel and said, "Amelia did great. She gave birth to a baby girl."

Rachel took the baby and spoke in fluent Fondanissian. "Thank you."

It was Rachel's first time holding a baby. She looked at the baby's tender appearance and felt her heart soften.

She approached Amelia with the baby in her arms and said, "The little girl looks just like you. She will definitely be a beauty in the future."

As she spoke, the baby suddenly started crying.

Rachel panicked.

Finally, the doctor helped hand the baby back to Amelia, and the baby stopped crying.

Upon learning that Amelia had given birth, the Vanderbilt family rushed to the hospital to visit.

For a moment, the baby's crib was surrounded by people.

Several individuals tried to make the baby happy with their voices.

Perhaps because their heads were too big and they were too noisy, the baby started crying loudly in no time.

This left the adults unsure of what to do.
