Chapter 144 He Refused to Be a Backup
Amelia stood still for a few seconds, just about to step into the Davis Manor, when she heard Felix's exclamation.
"Frederick..."
Amelia frowned and paused.
Since leaving the restaurant, Frederick's stomach had been hurting, but he endured it all the way, sitting coldly in the back seat with a stiff expression.
He was hurt by Amelia's words earlier, and the discomfort in his heart and the spasms in his stomach erupted together. As soon as he got in the car, he could no longer endure it and collapsed in the back seat before he could even close the door.
Felix hurriedly exited the car, walked around the front, and headed to the back seat.
Looking at Felix's hurried steps, Amelia's expression changed slightly. She sighed and immediately walked over.
"What's wrong with him?"
She asked as she approached the car.
Felix quickly replied, "Frederick fainted."
He struggled to lay Frederick down on the seat.
Frederick's thick eyebrows were tightly knitted, and his hand was placed firmly on his stomach.
Looking at his painful expression, Amelia's face grew serious. "You drive."
Felix quickly got into the driver's seat.
There was a narrow space left in the back seat. Amelia got in and closed the door.
After the door closed, Felix quickly started the car and headed to General Hospital.
Amelia observed Frederick's condition in the back seat, gently massaging his temples to relieve the pain.
General Hospital.
Felix had already informed the hospital on the way, so as soon as his car entered the hospital, medical staff immediately brought a stretcher over.
Amelia followed them to the emergency room door.
She wasn't working today, so she explained Frederick's condition to the medical staff.
The medical staff quickly pushed Frederick into the emergency room.
Felix waited anxiously at the door, and Amelia's face also showed some worry.
Frederick's forehead had been sweating the whole time in the car.
She had been married to Frederick for three years, and his health had always been good during those three years. He had regular yearly check-ups, so she knew his health condition well.
She didn't expect that in just three years, he would ruin his health like this.
She sat on a chair, waiting.
Felix paced back and forth in front of her.
Her relatively calm mood was affected by Felix's anxious behavior.
"Felix, you should go back and rest."
"Given his condition, it's better not to go to the company for a while so that the company might rely on you."
Felix hesitated slightly.
"Amelia, after all, you had a conflict with Frederick earlier. I'm worried..."
Amelia rubbed her temples. "I won't argue with him when he wakes up."
Felix was somewhat relieved and quickly said, "Then I'll leave it to you. If there's any problem, you can call me anytime."
Amelia nodded.
Felix glanced at the lit emergency room, sighed, and left.
About half an hour after Felix left, Frederick was transferred to a VIP ward.
Seeing Amelia sitting alone outside the emergency room, the doctor approached her to explain Frederick's condition.
"Frederick's stomach issues are due to frequent socializing and drinking and irregular eating habits over the past two years. He needs to take good care of himself for a while. Or you know, if he gets stomach cancer, it won't be easy to treat."
Amelia frowned.
She sighed, nodded lightly, and said softly, "I understand."
The doctor, hearing this, said softly, "Then we'll leave Frederick in your care."
"The director also means that you should take care of Frederick's condition during this time. After all, if he falls ill, it will also affect General Hospital's future."
Amelia nodded, and the doctor handed her Frederick's medical reports from the past three years.
She read the reports as she walked to Frederick's ward.
Frederick was lying in bed, his eyes closed. Perhaps due to the pain from stomach spasms, his brows were tightly knitted.
Amelia walked over, placed the reports aside, and sat quietly by his side, looking at him with a complex expression.
His brows remained furrowed all night.
Frederick woke up thirsty, feeling his lips dry.
Opening his eyes, he saw Amelia, who had fallen asleep by his bedside.
A gentle breeze blew in from the window. She was only wearing a thin shirt. Perhaps because she was cold, she hugged her arms tightly, resting her head on them.
Frederick looked at her, his eyes flickering with emotion.
He watched her quietly, his eyes filled with unspoken feelings, and then his gaze turned complex.
Amelia had been leaning for too long, and her arm was numb. She slowly opened her eyes, stretched, and met Frederick's deep gaze.
"Are you awake?"
Amelia looked at him and said coldly, her indifferent and composed attitude as if they hadn't argued the night before.
Frederick didn't answer, glancing at her before looking away.
Seeing this, Amelia didn't continue talking to him. She got up from the chair and reached out to check his temperature.
He had a fever last night and was very uncomfortable all night.
However, as soon as she reached out, Frederick grabbed her wrist, looking at her with a dark expression.
"Amelia. Don't you hate me? Shouldn't you stay away from me?"
"Or are you using the same trick on Dylan and Daniel, deliberately using this strategy to achieve your goals?"
Amelia looked at Frederick quietly, her eyes cold.
"Frederick, I think you're delirious from the fever and talking nonsense."
Frederick pushed her hand away. "I'll give you a chance to leave, or I'll consider you trying to seduce me."
Amelia looked at him quietly, then turned to take a thermometer from the drawer.
"I want to check if your fever has gone down."
Frederick was cold and uncooperative. "Do you think playing with two men isn't enough for you, so you want to include me in your plan for more challenges?"
Amelia raised an eyebrow, unable to understand Frederick's thoughts, but she didn't want to argue with him now.
She lifted Frederick's hand and placed the thermometer under his armpit.
"Do you want to be played by me and become one of them?"
Her voice was calm, as if she were asking for his opinion.
Frederick didn't expect her to respond like this, his expression sullen and frustrated.
He didn't expect Amelia to become so promiscuous after their divorce.
And she wanted him, her ex-husband, to become one of her flings!
He had been her legitimate husband before!
How could he accept that?
Frederick was infuriated by her words, glaring at her before looking away.
