Chapter 264 Loneliness Makes Him Especially Pitiful

Amelia hadn't even reached the sofa when her phone rang.

She glanced at her phone and saw it was a call from Rachel. She gave Frederick a quick look before stepping out of the living room to answer.

Recently, Rachel and Sebastian hadn't been getting along. There were even rumors that they were going to break off their engagement.

Since Frederick was Sebastian's friend, he would inform Sebastian if he heard anything, so Amelia had to be cautious.

Amelia walked to the yard before answering Rachel's call. "Rachel, what's up?"

Rachel's voice was slightly hoarse as she spoke calmly, "I just called Daddy, but he didn't pick up. Can you tell him I won't be home for dinner tonight?"

Amelia responded softly, "Daddy is in the kitchen, and his phone isn't with him, so he probably didn't hear it."

Amelia asked, "Is there a company event today?"

"Yeah, I have some personal matters to handle." Rachel coughed lightly on the other end.

Amelia immediately noticed that her cough sounded unusual. "Are you sick? I'll come over and check on you."

Rachel chuckled lightly. "No need. I've already taken some medicine."

Amelia still felt a bit uneasy, but Rachel quickly changed the subject.

"I heard from Daddy that you went to pay respects to Mrs. Swift with Frederick today. How did it go?" Rachel asked.

Mentioning Frederick made Amelia's heart flutter slightly. She glanced toward the floor-to-ceiling window and met Frederick's gaze.

Her eyes froze for a moment before she looked away. Amelia muttered, "Same as always."

Inside the window, Frederick was also looking at Amelia.

Seeing Amelia avoid him and Anna, Frederick felt uneasy. He thought Amelia was taking a call from another man and thus avoiding them.

Rachel was silent.

Amelia lightly bit her red lips and spoke softly again, "Rachel, if I'm not chosen firmly, I won't waver. Frederick isn't at the point where he can't live without me. If that's the case, why should I risk giving Anna an unstable home?"

"Amelia, you're much clearer about relationships than I am now," Rachel murmured.

Amelia knew that Rachel must have been troubled by the issues between Sebastian and Clara lately.

Amelia bit her lip lightly and hesitated before speaking. "Why didn't you tell Sebastian that you didn't arrange Clara?"

There had been rumors that Rachel had arranged for a woman to be sent to Sebastian's bed to break up with him.

No matter how outrageous the rumors were, Rachel had never explained.

Even Amelia thought it was something Rachel's personality could do.

Rachel said calmly, "Whether I arranged it or not, it already happened. What's there to explain? Sebastian knows in his heart."

Amelia was silent.

Rachel took a deep breath. "These complicated feelings are really more annoying than dealing with work. Amelia, don't worry. I can handle it."

With that, Rachel hung up.

Tina knocked on the door and walked into Rachel's office.

Rachel leaned back in her chair, her long legs stretched out on the desk. Despite her cold and beautiful face looking a bit sickly from the cold, her unapproachable aura hadn't diminished at all.

Tina couldn't understand how Sebastian had the nerve to betray Rachel, who was perfect in looks, body, and workability.

Seeing Tina come in, Rachel put her legs down from the chair. She asked, "Is everything ready?"

Tina nodded. "Yes, everything is prepared."

Then she stated, "People from Lantern Mansion reported that Mr. Kingsley has settled Ms. Hill there. However, Mr. Kingsley isn't staying at Lantern Mansion. He probably just sympathized with Ms. Hill for being kicked out by the Hill family and took her in."

Rachel hadn't publicly announced her intention to break off the engagement with Sebastian so that no one could guess her thoughts. Tina reported the situation truthfully.

In case they didn't break off the engagement, Rachel wouldn't be too embarrassed.

Rachel sneered and stood up, putting her legs down from the chair. "Would you take in a man you have a relationship with when your wedding is approaching?"

Tina was stunned, unsure whether to nod or shake her head.

Rachel, with a cold face, picked up her coat and walked out of the office, Tina following behind.

As the elevator doors opened, Rachel cleared her throat and said coldly, "Call Sebastian and tell him I'm going to Lantern Mansion and that he should come to save Clara."

Tina, full of confusion, hesitated but still dialed Sebastian's number.

At the VIP Business Reception Center of Lantern Mansion.

Rachel sat on the sofa, coldly watching Clara, who stood opposite her, looking thin and pitiful.

Rachel hadn't done anything yet, but Clara was already trembling as if Rachel had bullied her.

Clara said softly, "Ms. Davis, there's really nothing between Sebastian and me. He just felt sorry for me and my child, who had nowhere to go, so he let us stay here. If you mind, I'll leave with my child immediately. I hope you don't misunderstand Sebastian or let me affect your relationship."

Rachel raised an eyebrow slightly, leaning back and looking at Clara with a condescending gaze.

Clara, though standing, had no presence, lowly like dust.Rachel slowly said, "As far as I know, the night the Hill family kicked you out, you ran to the Kingsley family with your child, begging Sebastian to take you in. It was pouring rain, and a woman with a child was indeed pitiful. You're not afraid I'll misunderstand Sebastian. You're afraid I won't misunderstand him enough, right?"

Clara stiffened her expression and lowered her head.

She muttered, "Ms. Davis, I really have nowhere else to go."

Rachel sneered, "So, Sebastian, is your haven?"

Clara remained silent.

Outside the door, Sebastian hurried over.

He saw Rachel sitting on the sofa, surrounded by dozens of bodyguards, looking imposing, while Clara stood alone, looking pitiful.

Sebastian hurried over and stood opposite Rachel, next to Clara.

"Rachel, listen to me..." Sebastian chimed in.

Before he could finish, the bodyguards behind Rachel suddenly bent down and brought something from behind.

Before he could react, ten buckets of ice water were poured over him and Clara.

The buckets contained ice cubes, making the water cold.

Clara, panicking, hid behind Sebastian but couldn't escape.

Clara looked at Rachel in fear, trembling all over, unsure if it was from the cold or fear.

Rachel glanced at her indifferently, feeling satisfied.

'Doesn't Clara like to tremble? Then, tremble enough,' Rachel thought.
