Chapter 273 Love Letter
The restaurant manager nodded solemnly and then personally went to fetch the wine.
When the manager brought the wine, he used a cart adorned with flowers, candles, and a dedicated sommelier, creating a full sense of ceremony.
Amelia quietly watched the sommelier decant the wine.
In the three years she was married to Frederick, they never dined in such a setting.
When Amelia first married Frederick, she was full of youthful romanticism and had booked a few couple's restaurants, but Frederick never showed up.
Amelia remembered the last time she booked a couple's restaurant. Frederick had clearly told her he was free, but by the afternoon, he had gone on a business trip to another city.
She ate all the dishes she ordered by herself, eating until she was stuffed and sick. After that, Amelia never had any more fantasies about it.
Frederick noticed Amelia's gaze fixed on the sommelier, his brow slightly furrowed. He glanced at the sommelier with a hint of coldness in his eyes.
The sommelier, catching Frederick's gaze, stiffened slightly, unsure of what mistake he had made, and became even more cautious with his movements.
Frederick, with a cold and handsome face, got up from his seat, walked to the sommelier's side, rolled up his sleeves, and said coldly, "You all can leave."
The restaurant manager heard this, nodded, and quickly led the sommelier and waitstaff out of the private room.
Amelia saw Frederick walk to the decanting station, pulling her thoughts back from distant memories.
His long and elegant hand held the wine bottle, pouring the red wine into the decanter, the candlelight gently flickering with his movements.
The candlelight cast on his face made his already handsome features even more striking, creating a strong visual impact.
Frederick poured the red wine into the decanter and looked up at her.
Amelia, unguarded, met his deep blue eyes, the slight flicker of the candlelight reflecting in his eyes, making his gaze appear intense and scorching.
Amelia quickened her heartbeat slightly, feeling that everything was so unreal.
It was as if the dream she had when she first married Frederick was coming true tonight.
Frederick poured two glasses of red wine and placed them in front of Amelia, clearly sensing her distraction, and asked, "What were you just thinking about?"
Amelia lightly pursed her red lips and casually found an excuse. "I was thinking about whether the balance in my payment platform is enough to cover tonight's expenses."
She had received a call from Tina saying Rachel had been in a car accident and left in a hurry without her bag.
The card she linked to her payment platform was only for daily expenses, and she didn't have much money in it. The card with her savings wasn't related to any payment platform.
Amelia had maintained this habit for years.
She hadn't touched the four billion dollars she had received from the divorce, intending to save them for Anna or for emergencies if the Davis Group faced another crisis.
Frederick, seeing her troubled expression, slightly curved his lips, "How could I really let you pay? This meal is on me."
Amelia instantly understood his meaning. "So I still owe you a meal?"
Frederick raised an eyebrow without answering Amelia's question, lifted his wine glass, and said, "Cheers."
Amelia picked up her wine glass and extended it, the clinking sound crisp and pleasant.
An hour later, they finished their meal.
It seemed they had never spent so long dining together before.
During the meal, Frederick shared his career plans and discussed the artificial intelligence she was interested in during their last visit to Tideport City.
Amelia listened quietly, suddenly realizing that Frederick wasn't without a desire to share.
It was just that, in the past, the person he wanted to share with wasn't her.
Amelia felt a sense of melancholy, a mix of complex emotions swirling in her heart.
She drank the last bit of wine in her glass. What had previously been smooth now tasted slightly bitter.
Amelia looked up at Frederick sitting across from her. His deep blue eyes already showed a hint of intoxication.
Out of the entire bottle of red wine, she had probably only drunk less than a quarter. The rest had gone into his stomach.
His gaze was too intense, making Amelia's heart flutter. She avoided his eyes, put down her wine glass, and said softly, "Let's go back after we've finished eating."
Frederick slightly nodded, also finishing the wine in his glass, and pressed the service bell on the table.
The manager knocked and entered, and Frederick's voice was low and hoarse, "Check, please."
The waiter immediately brought over the POS machine, standing by the table, politely and respectfully reporting the dishes they had ordered and the corresponding prices.
Hearing the price of the wine, Amelia was shocked.
This bottle of wine cost $40,000.
The waiter said, "Your total is $42,000."
Amelia lightly bit her lip. The balance on her card really wasn't enough to cover this bill.
Frederick took out a bank card from his wallet and handed it to the waiter.
After the waiter swiped the card, he respectfully returned it to Frederick.
As they left the private room, Amelia could even feel the envious gazes of the restaurant staff.
Amelia didn't show much expression, but inside, she was pained by the expense.
Seeing that both Frederick and Amelia had been drinking and didn't have a driver, the restaurant manager thoughtfully arranged a driver for them.
Once in the car, Frederick took out his phone and looked down at it, possibly handling some business.
Amelia glanced at him and then turned her gaze to the window.
After a while, Frederick's low and hoarse voice sounded beside her. "It's still early. Let's go see a movie together."
Amelia paused, withdrew her gaze, and looked at Frederick beside her, her eyes questioning, "Did you buy the tickets?"
Frederick nodded, holding up his phone. "I did."
Amelia gazed at him, momentarily puzzled. "Just now?"
"Yes," Frederick truthfully responded.
Amelia looked at his handsome face, feeling a bit complicated. If Frederick had done these things during their marriage, she might have drowned in his tenderness, unable to extricate herself.
But after experiencing the painful waiting, although her heart still fluttered for this man, she remained much calmer.
She hummed lightly and said indifferently, "It better not be a horror movie. I'm not the kind of girl who would cling to you after watching a horror film."
Frederick coughed lightly. "It's not a horror movie."
Amelia responded with a nod and said softly, "It's been a long time since I've seen a movie. Let's go."
After speaking, she turned her gaze back to the window.
Seeing her agree, Frederick, while she wasn't paying attention, opened the cinema app and canceled the horror movie he had previously selected. He then opened the romance category and chose a movie called "Love Letter."
Frederick rarely watched movies, and he chose this one because the title suggested a warm love story.
Little did he know, it was actually a tragic love story.
