Chapter 481 Vincent Gets Injured
Jesse set the tray down in front of Nicole and noticed she looked pretty uncomfortable. "Are you feeling sick again? Maybe you should take the day off and head home," he suggested gently.
Nicole shook her head and mumbled, "I'm good. Let's just eat."
She glanced over at Amelia, saw she wasn't paying attention, bit her lip, and started eating.
Jesse followed her gaze and saw Amelia sitting nearby, not acknowledging Nicole. He quickly figured out why Nicole was upset.
He turned back to Nicole, looking a bit worried. "Should we go say hi to Ms. Davis?" he whispered.
Nicole bit her lip again and shook her head. "Nah, let's not ruin our mood."
Jesse didn't push it and focused on getting food for Nicole.
After Amelia and her colleagues finished eating, they walked past Jesse and Nicole. Amelia spoke up, "Nicole, we're heading out."
Nicole barely nodded in response. Amelia noticed Nicole's distant behavior but, with her colleagues waiting, she decided not to dwell on it.
The busy day soon made her forget about the brief encounter.
After work, the Davis family's driver showed up at the hospital to pick up Amelia. Rachel had noticed a car missing from the garage and found out Amelia had taken it and it ended up in a scrapyard. That was when she learned about Amelia's car accident.
Seeing the driver, Amelia looked a bit surprised. "What are you doing here?"
The driver smiled and opened the car door. "Ms. Rachel Davis sent me. She's worried about you, so she asked me to drive."
Amelia raised an eyebrow and got in the car. Back at the Davis Manor, Anna was on the sofa watching cartoons, laughing at something funny. Susan was with her.
When Amelia walked in, Anna was still laughing. Susan quickly went to greet her, looking a bit serious. "Mr. Davis went out today, and he seemed upset when he got back. He's been in his room since," she said quietly.
A serious look crossed Amelia's face as she walked to Vincent's bedroom door and knocked. "Dad," she called.
After a moment, Vincent opened the door with a kind smile, looking like he had no worries. "What's up?"
If it weren't for the slight evasiveness in his eyes, Amelia might not have noticed anything. She didn't ask directly but smiled. "Dad, did you catch any fish today? It's been a while since we had your catch."
Vincent looked surprised for a second, then smiled. "I haven't caught any lately. I'll try harder tomorrow." As he spoke, he instinctively hid his hand behind him.
Amelia noticed Vincent's subtle movement and grabbed his hand to check. She saw his palm was scraped.
"Dad, what happened to your hand?" she asked, frowning.
Hearing Amelia's voice, Anna got off the sofa and walked over. "What's wrong with Grandpa?" she asked, concerned.
"I just fell, it's no big deal," Vincent said casually.
Amelia frowned, clearly not buying it. But since Vincent didn't want to talk about it, she let it go for now and fetched a first aid kit to treat his wound.
After treating the wound, Amelia got a message from Felix.
Felix: [Mr. Davis came to the Hastings Group this afternoon and had a conflict with Mr. Hastings. Mr. Hastings can't contact you right now, so he asked me to let you know.]
Amelia frowned at the message. Was her dad's injury related to Frederick?
After dinner, Amelia asked Susan to take Anna upstairs to wash up. Vincent also got up to go back to his room. Seeing him leave, Amelia called out, "Dad, can you tell me how you got injured?"
Vincent paused, smiling awkwardly. "Amelia, I'm fine. I just fell."
Amelia took a deep breath, her eyes serious. "Dad, did you go to the Hastings Group?"
Vincent's expression changed. After a long silence, he finally said, "Yes, I went to the Hastings Group."
Amelia looked at his bandaged hand and pressed, "Did Frederick hurt you?"
Vincent shook his head. "It was chaotic. I don't know who pushed me."
Amelia's face darkened. She picked up her phone to call Frederick.
Vincent immediately grabbed her hand. "Amelia, don't call him. I didn't suffer any loss. I went over and punched him first. He's not doing well either. I think our current family environment is good. Anna doesn't need her father. You see, Anna hasn't missed him these past few days. Cut ties with him."
Amelia tightened her grip on the phone. "Dad, did you see something?"
Vincent fell silent.
"Did you see Frederick with Nancy?" Amelia asked softly.
Vincent looked at her, worried. "You knew?"
Vincent had gone to the Hastings Group intending to talk to Frederick, but he saw Nancy and Frederick coming out of the elevator together. Nancy was adjusting Frederick's tie, looking like a loving couple.
Infuriated by the thought of Amelia's years of dedication to Frederick, Vincent punched him without a word, grabbing his tie and demanding answers. Security separated them, and Frederick left with Nancy.
Nancy looked back at Vincent with a provocative gaze, similar to the disdainful look Layla had when she left.
Vincent's emotions flared up again. He rushed over, and in the commotion, Nancy pushed him, causing him to fall.
