Chapter 330 Their Years Together Were Worthless

Vincent gripped Amelia's arm tightly.

Amelia saw Vincent wasn't in any shape to go to the scene.

If he saw the victims' families, he'd probably lose it.

So she said, "Dad, stay home and wait for news. I'll find Rachel. If there's any problem, I'll let you know right away."

Vincent held her hand tightly and said, "Rachel can't handle this, and neither can you. The victims' bodies are still underground."

Amelia's face went pale, eyes wide in shock. "Dad," she stammered, "didn't we already rescue and retrieve the bodies?"

Vincent's hand shook as he held hers, his grip tight, his face full of guilt and regret. "No," he whispered. "The collapse was too extensive, and we couldn't pinpoint the victims' exact location. The rescue cost was too high, so I pulled some strings and didn't excavate the bodies. We settled with compensation."

The victims were elderly workers in their fifties, and their families were more interested in the money. Vincent hired a lawyer to negotiate. They took the money, signed a confidentiality agreement, and didn't pursue it further.

Vincent had followed orders from above and bribed reporters to say all the bodies had been found and handled properly.

As time passed, when Rachel took over his position, the public forgot about it.

Only a few knew the bodies hadn't been excavated.

Now, someone wanted to use this to attack the Davis Group, and they picked the perfect time.

The economic talks between Yaradia and Kasfee were about to start.

Bringing this up now would definitely hurt the Davis Group.

Yaradia's companies would likely avoid working with the Davis Group.

The Davis Group's hopes for better development would be crushed.

Amelia furrowed her brows, helped Vincent up, and walked outside.

Susan wanted to follow, but Amelia said, "Susan, stay home with Anna."

Anna had never seen such tension before. She sat at the dining table, seeing the serious looks on Vincent and Amelia's faces, and it made her anxious.

She stared at Amelia and cried, "Mommy. I want Mommy to hold me."

Hearing Anna's cries, Susan quickly picked her up.

In Susan's arms, Anna stopped crying but looked at Amelia with tear-filled eyes.

She stayed quietly in Susan's arms, and Amelia felt heartbroken.

"I..." Amelia started to speak to Anna, but Frederick walked in.

"Let's go together," Frederick said softly.

Amelia looked up at Frederick, her eyes slightly moved, a hint of tears flashing but quickly suppressed.

Frederick stepped in and took Anna from Susan's arms.

Amelia helped Vincent into the car, and Frederick followed with Anna.

Anna stayed quietly in Frederick's arms, not crying, her little head on his shoulder, tears in her eyes, looking pitiful.

Amelia felt a deep pang of guilt.

When Frederick's car arrived at the Riverfront Estate, Rachel was surrounded by the victims' families.

Reporters were everywhere. Someone threw a water bottle, hitting Rachel on the head.

As soon as Frederick's car stopped, Vincent jumped out. Amelia followed, running toward the crowd.

Frederick stayed in the car with Anna, eyeing a black sedan across the street.

Sebastian, inside the car, sensed someone watching and rolled up the window.

Seconds later, the car drove off.

Frederick's eyes darkened. Sebastian was behind this chaos.

Sebastian was puzzled by the reporters at Riverfront Estate. He hadn't called them yet.

Riverfront Estate had been shut down for four years, and no work had resumed.

Not only reporters, homeowners from the first phase of Riverfront Estate were there. The first phase was delivered on time, but the second phase had been halted, leaving the estate incomplete. Landscaping and facilities didn't meet the advertised standards.

Feeling deceived, the first-phase homeowners had gathered when they heard the Davis Group's person in charge was coming, although they were not here to solve their problem.

Sebastian hadn't expected things to get so serious, with someone even attacking Rachel. He couldn't sit still and got out of the car.

Rachel had bodyguards, but the crowd was too large and organized.

Panicking, Sebastian squeezed into the crowd and protected Rachel back to the reception area.

Vincent and Amelia were led in through a side door by staff.

Rachel blinked, dazed, touching the throbbing spot on her head. Her hair was plastered to her forehead, damp from the water bottle.

Sebastian hovered over her, reaching out with a tissue to brush away the wet hair.

Rachel blocked his gesture, staring at him with icy disdain. "Mr. Kingsley," she spat, "what are you doing? After orchestrating all this, now you want to help?"

Few knew the issues with Riverfront Estate, and Sebastian was one of them.

Others, entangled with the Davis family's interests, wouldn't expose this.

Sebastian wanted to destroy her dignity, and Riverfront Estate was a good choice.

When Tina called about collaborating with Kevin, Rachel had had a glimmer of hope for Sebastian.

They had been together for years, and even after breaking up, she thought he wouldn't use this against her.

Seeing Sebastian's hypocritical act now, Rachel felt their years together were worthless.

Amelia's face changed at Rachel's words. Anger surged through her. She stepped toward Sebastian and slapped him hard.

"Sebastian," Amelia said, her voice tight with fury, "Rachel never wronged you. Why would you do this?" Her words were laced with disbelief and betrayal.

The slap left five finger marks on Sebastian's cheek.

Sebastian glanced at Amelia, his eyes showing a hint of anger.

Rachel pulled Amelia back. She sneered, "Amelia, why bother with someone like him? Hitting him is a reward."
