Chapter 242 He Wants to Endure All the Pains of Love
Amelia quietly glanced at Frederick, her eyes cold and indifferent.
She took a napkin and gently wiped her lips, speaking softly, "I've already eaten."
Frederick also put down his knife and fork.
The food on his plate was almost untouched, and he had completely lost his appetite.
"Me too," He spoke in a low tone, his voice slightly hoarse.
She nodded and said calmly, "Then let's go."
As she stood up from her seat, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Frederick said coldly.
A waiter pushed the door open and came in, holding a tray with the restaurant's special couple dolls on it.
The waiter smiled, "Mr. Hastings, these are our restaurant's new dolls, a gift for you and the lady."
Frederick glanced at the dolls on the tray with a disinterested expression.
After hearing what Amelia had just said, he felt conflicted. He was about to ask the waiter to take the dolls away when he noticed Amelia's gaze fixed on them.
His eyes warmed as he looked at Amelia, and he naturally picked up the dolls and handed them to her.
He asked, "Do you like them?"
Amelia shook her head and replied, "Anna would probably like them."
Anna always liked to bring home the toys from kids' meals whenever they went out to eat. Vincent even made her a special cabinet to store her collection of toys.
Hearing this, Frederick casually kept the dolls in his hand.
Amelia was about to reach out for the dolls but was puzzled when he took them back.
She looked at him in confusion, her expression slightly dazed.
He explained softly, "You still have some time before you return to Kasfee General Hospital. Since I'm going back, I can deliver them to her."
Amelia was taken aback, saying, "You're so busy with work."
Frederick replied, "I can make time."
She remained silent.
He picked up his coat, draping it over his arm. He was the first to speak, "Let's go."
Amelia didn't say anything more and nodded, leaving the restaurant with him.
As they went downstairs together, Frederick walked ahead, occasionally slowing his pace to wait for Amelia.
She always kept a safe distance from Frederick.
Despite this, many people still cast their eyes on her.
Their gazes were curious, envious, and interested, making her very uncomfortable.
Amelia didn't like the feeling of being watched by everyone.
The man walking ahead was already used to the attention. He remained composed and stopped at the restaurant entrance to wait for Amelia.
Amelia quickened her pace and urged Frederick, "Hurry up."
He realized that Amelia didn't like appearing in public with him. His expression stiffened, and he grabbed her arm.
Frederick questioned unpleasantly, "Does being with me embarrass you?"
She paused, not understanding why he would think that. She looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Frederick saw the clear confusion in her eyes and felt a pang in his heart, realizing he had become so insecure in front of her.
This wasn't like him.
Amelia didn't like the attention and naturally wanted to avoid it.
She was about to explain when Frederick composed himself, released her arm, and spoke coldly, "I'll have Felix take you back to the hotel."
Amelia paused and asked, "Isn't Felix going back to Kasfee General Hospital with you?"
He replied indifferently, "Yes," just as a black car pulled up beside him.
The driver got out and opened the door for him. Frederick bent down to get in but then stopped and looked at her.
He suddenly said, "I'll take you back to the hotel myself."
Amelia hesitated for a few seconds before declining, "No need. I can take a cab."
Frederick frowned but didn't speak as Felix drove up and parked behind the black car.
Seeing Frederick standing by the car door, Felix quickly walked over.
Felix said respectfully, "Ms. Davis, Mr. Hastings asked me to take you back to the hotel."
Felix was secretly pleased, thinking he had helped Frederick by showing Amelia that even though Frederick was leaving Tideport City, he had left Felix to take care of her.
How considerate Mr. Hastings's hidden love was!
Felix even looked at Frederick with a hint of joy, expecting praise.
But all he saw was a cold and icy stare from Frederick, which made him freeze.
Felix was stunned, not understanding what he had done wrong.
Amelia nodded at Felix's words and then told Frederick, "When you get to Kasfee General Hospital, let Brittany know you're safe."
Frederick nodded and casually replied, "I'll let you know, too. Don't ignore my calls."
He didn't give her a chance to respond, bending down to get into the car.
The driver immediately closed the door, got in, and drove away.
Felix, stung by Frederick's cold gaze, was confused.
He cautiously asked Amelia, "Ms. Davis, did I do something wrong?"
If he hadn't, Frederick wouldn't have looked at him like that.
Amelia shook her head and answered, "No."
While she answered lightly, Felix's mood was notably somber.
Felix absentmindedly walked to the car, opened the back door, and gestured for Amelia to get in.
She bent down to get in, thanking him.
Felix couldn't figure out what he had done wrong, but he believed any mistake could be fixed.
On the way back, Felix hesitated for a long time before speaking, "Ms. Davis, Mr. Hastings has regretted the divorce ever since. After the divorce, Mr. Hastings went to Fondaniss to find you. He..."
Amelia, looking out the window, interrupted him, "I know."
During that time, Rachel occasionally brought Amelia news about Frederick.
'He came to find me but didn't see me. How could that be considered finding me?' Amelia pondered.
She stated, "I know he regretted it even before we divorced."
Her voice was calm, and Felix felt a chill run down his spine.
Felix asked in confusion, "You knew Mr. Hastings regretted it and still divorced him?"
Amelia gave a bitter smile, replying, "He regretted it not because of his feelings for me but because the image of his pure first love was shattered. If Amber hadn't taken Brittany's one million dollars and voluntarily broken up with him, he wouldn't have regretted it. With his business mindset, a broken first love isn't worth sacrificing marriage and giving me so much property."
Felix listened to her words, unable to find a rebuttal.
The truth wasn't like that, but her words seemed to make sense.
