Chapter 398 Frederick Deliberately Spread Those Rumors

Rue's expression was quite sullen as she cast a dissatisfied glance at Frederick. "Mr. Hastings, you have so many capable subordinates. Giving Felix to me wouldn't cost you much, so why are you so guarded against me?" she complained.

Frederick had been training new recruits in the president's office for years, and Felix personally trained many of them. Those people were also outstanding.

Rue assumed that Felix leaving the Hastings Group would only have a minor impact on the company.

If the Jelena family could get someone as outstanding as Felix to be a part of their family, she could take it easy for a while.

Rue originally had no intention of taking over the Jelena Group, but her father's health had been deteriorating recently.

She had no choice but to put aside her playful thoughts and focus on work.

She had always wanted to be a lady of leisure. However, now she suddenly had to take over the Jelena Group, which was quite an adjustment.

To cope with this new responsibility, she devised a plan: she would find a capable man to marry into the Jelena family and become her husband. This way, she would have someone to share the burden of managing the group.

Among the people she knew, she completely ruled out the gentlemen from prominent families, as they were all very smart and might be secretly plotting to take over the Jelena family.

So she set her sights on Felix. When she and Frederick first got engaged, Rue already had her eye on Felix. Who wouldn't like a capable, hardworking, and decent man?

However, after months of trying to get closer to him, Rue and Felix were still just acquaintances.

Rue, who had always been adored and pampered, had never faced such frustration. She refused to believe that she couldn't win Felix over.

Frederick saw the determination in Rue's eyes and told her, calmly, "He's not interested in you."

Rue was taken aback by Frederick's words. "But I like him," she insisted.

Frederick glanced at Rue and then stopped talking. He pulled Amelia into his arms, as if wanting to keep her away from Rue.

Rue didn't care about Frederick's actions. Led by the waiter, the group headed to the private room Rue had reserved.

The private room was located in the back garden, with a small garden right at the entrance, providing a beautiful environment.

Once inside, the waiter brought the menu.

A faint commotion could be heard from the adjacent private room. Initially, the noise was low, but as the speaker's emotions escalated, the volume increased significantly.

The man shouted, "I don't care. You promised to take me back to Fondaniss. I must be on the same flight as you, and I want to sit next to you. Marrying her was already a compromise for me! Now, you plan to make me fly to Fondaniss alone? How can you treat me like this? Am I not worthy of accompanying you on the private jet?"

The man spoke fluent Fondanissian, and Amelia thought the voice sounded familiar.

She looked at Frederick. Frederick also glanced at Amelia, seemingly recognizing the voice as well.

Rue, who didn't understand Fondanissian, had no idea what was being said. She just frowned and complained, "Why is it so noisy? Can they close the door while they argue?"

Rue glanced at the waiter taking their order. The waiter apologized softly and then left the room.

Soon, the noise from the adjacent room subsided.

Frederick noticed Amelia's slightly heavy expression and asked, "Do you want to go check it out?"

Amelia shook her head. "No. Respect his choice."

Amelia knew that no matter how much she tried to persuade Dylan, he was currently entirely focused on Ken.

Unless he saw the reality for himself, no one could help him move on.

Frederick nodded lightly, the tension in his face easing.

Rue, hearing Amelia's words, looked a bit puzzled and asked softly, "Ms. Davis, do you know the people in the next room?"

Amelia smiled and replied, "Yes."

Rue, seeing that Amelia wasn't keen on discussing it further, wisely changed the subject.

Rue's personality was very likable, and she got along well with Amelia. By the end of the meal, Amelia and Rue had exchanged contact information. Frederick quietly watched, holding Anna in his arms.

Rue had thought Frederick would stop Amelia from giving her contact information, but to her surprise, Frederick acted like a good husband and did not prevent Amelia from expanding her social circle at all. This surprised Rue a bit.

After all, in Rue's view, her identity was something that could potentially be a sore spot in their budding friendship, as she had almost become Frederick's fiancée.

After the meal, Frederick's other driver came to pick them up while Rue got into her car.

On the way back to the Davis Manor, Amelia couldn't help but glance at Frederick, saying, "Ms. Jelena has a great personality."

Frederick's expression was calm as he replied, "She's alright." He was focused on massaging Anna's little fingers, not paying much attention to Amelia's comment.

Seeing his indifferent attitude, Amelia softly asked, "Did you choose to get engaged to Ms. Jelena because of her good personality?"

Frederick immediately looked at Amelia, thinking she was jealous of the past. He pulled her closer with one hand. He explained firmly, "No. At that time, I had no intention of getting engaged to anyone."

Amelia raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. She asked, "If you had no intention of getting engaged, why was the news of your engagement to Ms. Jelena so widespread?"

Even she had heard about it in Fondaniss.

Frederick leaned closer to Amelia, his gaze warm. "So, you came back because you heard I was getting engaged to someone else?" he whispered.

Amelia was momentarily flustered, a blush creeping up her cheeks. She had indeed returned because she heard about Frederick's engagement.

Seeing her looking away, Frederick knew he had guessed right. He pulled her even closer, his gaze intense and tender. He said softly, "I deliberately spread those rumors. Even though I knew you were doing well in Fondaniss and had a child, I still wanted to see if you would take any action upon hearing about my situation."

Frederick kissed Amelia's cheek and said sincerely, "When I heard you were coming back, I was very happy. I kept wondering if it was because you heard about my engagement."

During that time, Frederick truly experienced what it meant to feel defeated and anxious. Fortunately, now Amelia was his, and Anna was his too.
