Chapter 501 You Might Miss Your Chance
Tina shot Shirley a cold glance and slid into the driver's seat. "Hop in," she said coolly. "I'll drive you back to the apartment."
Shirley stood there for a second, looking serious, then quickly got into the passenger seat and buckled up.
"Tina, you really need to talk to Ms. Davis," she said, sounding worried. "Mr. Kingsley is bad news. Have you all forgotten the awful stuff he did before? People show their true colors when things get tough. Don't be fooled by his act."
Tina started the car, her face unreadable, like she hadn't even heard Shirley.
"Could it be they've patched things up?" Shirley asked, her voice desperate. If Sebastian and Rachel were back together, what would happen to Charles?
"We shouldn't meddle in Ms. Davis's personal business," Tina said calmly.
"But we can't just watch her pick a jerk," Shirley muttered under her breath.
"If Mr. Kingsley isn't right for Ms. Davis, then who is? Mr. Wright?" Tina shot Shirley a look.
"Of course, he..." she paused, imagining Charles's serious demeanor.
"Over the years, Ms. Davis's relationships have never caused a stir," Tina said calmly. "Even with the rocky stuff with Mr. Kingsley, people just say she's too headstrong. If Mr. Wright and Ms. Davis got together, everyone would be talking about it, and she hates that."
Shirley bit her lip, mumbling, "Ms. Davis won't see it that way. She..."
Tina cut in, "But you know how much your parents hurt the Davis family when they were together, right?"
Hearing that, Shirley fell silent, her eyes turning red with clear distress.
When Tina dropped her off at the apartment, Shirley's phone rang. Seeing Nancy's name, Shirley's face tightened.
"Take the call in the car," Tina suggested, grabbing Shirley's hand.
Shirley hesitated before answering, "Nancy?"
"I thought you forgot about me," Nancy's cold voice came through the line.
Shirley replied awkwardly, "Of course not. I just got back to Kasfee today, and it's already late, so I planned to call you tomorrow."
Nancy's voice had a frosty edge. "Mom and I are hitting all sorts of roadblocks in Kasfee, and our work's crawling. Since you're at the Davis Group, you should help us out. The Wright Family did raise you, after all."
Shirley bit her lip and replied softly, "Nancy, I've been fired by Ms. Davis."
Nancy's tone turned serious. "When did this happen?"
Shirley spoke quietly, her voice tinged with hurt, "Just now. Ms. Davis said she doesn't trust me and that keeping me around is like having a ticking time bomb, so she let me go."
Nancy heard the hurt in Shirley's voice but didn't offer any comfort. Instead, she snapped coldly, "You're the most useless one in the Wright Family. Can't do anything right." Then she hung up.
Shirley stared at her phone, feeling even worse.
Tina didn't rush her out of the car but handed her a tissue. Shirley looked up at Tina and pouted, "I'm not crying."
Tina put the tissue back. "Then get out of the car."
Shirley bit her lip, muttering, "You're as heartless as Ms. Davis."
But Tina's expression didn't change. She remarked, "You're even afraid to take Nancy's call. How could Ms. Davis dare to keep you around? If you can't stand up to her, then stay away and don't get caught in the crossfire."
Defeated, Shirley nodded slightly.
Tina leaned back, waiting for her to get out. After calming herself down, Shirley finally stepped out.
Then she turned to Tina and said seriously, "I'll go back to Yaradia as you said."
"Close the door," Tina responded coldly.
Feeling awkward, Shirley closed the door. She couldn't help but think how alike Tina and Rachel were, both so heartless.
Shirley angrily returned to her apartment and suddenly remembered something. She immediately called Charles. "Charles, I've been fired by Ms. Davis. Ms. Davis and Mr. Kingsley have been getting close lately. If you don't come back, you might miss your chance."
Although Rachel wasn't someone easily swayed by love, she and Sebastian had a long history. And Sebastian had been quite good at pretending lately. Shirley waited for Charles's response, but he remained silent on the other end.
"Charles?" she prompted anxiously, wishing he would hurry back to Kasfee to pursue Rachel.
Charles's voice finally came through, calm and composed. "Rachel isn't that impulsive," he said, before hanging up.
Shirley wanted to say more but realized Charles had already hung up. When she tried calling again, Charles was already on another call.
Meanwhile, Rachel had just stepped out of the bathroom when her phone started vibrating on the cabinet. Seeing the caller ID, her eyes flickered. She hesitated before answering. "Hello, Mr. Wright."
Charles was silent for a few seconds before speaking in a low, restrained tone. "You fired Shirley?"
