Chapter 120 Turns Out He Was Using Her
After Frederick finished speaking, he walked over to a nearby couch and sat down.
Rue was displeased, stomping her foot lightly as she also walked over and took a seat next to Frederick. With her arms crossed, she glanced in Amelia's direction.
"Frederick, you're not refusing to dance with me because of Amelia, are you?" Rue asked.
Frederick, sitting on the couch, glanced at her, his deep gaze carrying a hint of warning.
"Don't talk nonsense," he said.
Rue snorted lightly, though she was dissatisfied, she didn't dare to continue causing trouble.
Quietly sitting next to Frederick, she couldn't help but keep looking toward Amelia. After all, she was Frederick's ex-wife, so Rue couldn't resist wanting to pay attention to her.
With one leg crossed over the other, leaning slightly forward, she rested her face on her hand and mumbled softly, "That dress she's wearing isn't as nice as the one she was wearing when we bumped into her the other day."
She paused and turned to look at Frederick. "Frederick, could it be that she didn't choose that dress because you said it wasn't suitable?" Rue asked.
Frederick furrowed his brows, gave Rue a glance, and said in a deep voice, "If you're bored, you can find someone else to dance with."
Rue pursed her lips, grinned, and said, "I'm curious, why did you divorce such a beautiful ex-wife? Is it really like the rumors online say, because of Amber?"
Because of Scott, Rue had seen Amber a few times.
Compared to Amelia, Amber lacked a natural sense of elegance and confidence.
Frederick's face darkened considerably at Rue's words.
Rue paused, her eyes showing some surprise. "Oh my, could it be that I hit the nail on the head?" she said.
Frederick's expression grew even darker. "Felix," he spoke with a low voice.
Felix stood not far away and heard Frederick suddenly calling him, so he quickly walked over.
"Mr. Hastings, did you need me?" Felix asked.
Frederick nodded and glanced at Rue. "Would you dance with her?"
Felix immediately waved his hand in refusal. "Mr. Hastings, you are asking too much of me."
Rue, who was brought by Frederick as his companion, didn't mind. She smiled slightly and got up from the couch.
"Thank you, Felix."
Felix hesitated for a moment, with a hint of awkwardness in his expression. Rue didn't wait for Felix to invite her but raised her hand.
Seeing this, Felix couldn't refuse any longer and reached out his hand. As Rue placed her delicate hand in Felix's palm, he immediately became nervous.
After they moved away from Frederick, Felix whispered, "Ms. Jelena, you shouldn't have agreed with Mr. Hastings."
Rue smiled slightly, twirled around, and remained composed.
"If I didn't agree, I would have had to sit there the whole time. I can't stand it."
While speaking, she glanced at Frederick and then asked in a low voice, "Is Ms. Davis' child also Frederick's?"
Felix didn't know how to answer the question.
Not receiving a response, Rue let out a sigh. "I'm not ready to become a stepmother yet."
Her voice sounded full of distress.
Embarrassed, Felix chuckled awkwardly and reminded her in a low voice, "Ms. Jelena, Mr. Hastings never said he would marry you."
Now, Rue was even more embarrassed. Her expression revealed a hint of distress. "You are right. But I still need to mentally prepare myself, in case one day he agrees to marry me."
Frederick was the most eligible candidate for marriage in the country.
Rue grew up in a complicated family environment, so she didn't care if her future husband had ambiguous relationships with other women.
Since she was young, she has been introduced to various ladies by her father. The people around her, friends and relatives, were not faithful in relationships. So, in Rue's eyes, all men are the same.
In the past two years, she had met countless blind dates, some of whom were wealthy, and some were good-looking.
However, there were very few who possess both good looks and wealth like Frederick.
After meeting Frederick, she didn't contact him much.
But recently, Frederick called and said he wanted to take her to meet Brittany, so Rue agreed.
However, they didn't meet Brittany, and Frederick ended up in the hospital instead. Rue had just introduced herself to Amelia as Frederick's fiancée, hoping to see their reaction.
If there was any chance for a reconciliation between them, Rue would have to find another marriage prospect for herself. After all, she didn't want to deal with issues related to Frederick's ex-wife and child. It would be even more troublesome than dealing with her father's illegitimate child outside the family.
The members of the Davis family were not easy to handle, especially Rachel, who was cunning and capable. Rue felt a bit intimidated even by just exchanging glances with her.
But if Rue gave up on Frederick now, she would feel somewhat unwilling. After all, Frederick was capable and wealthy, and her material life would definitely be more abundant after marrying him. Plus, he had the means to help her deal with all the tedious matters of the Jelena family. She couldn't find a better marriage prospect than him.
Rue sighed lightly. Felix furrowed his brows slightly and whispered, "Ms. Jelena, you stepped on my foot."
He was the one who should be sighing. Rue had stepped on his foot many times throughout the dance.
Rue paused for a moment, feeling a bit embarrassed, and smiled. "Sorry about that. I rarely dance."
The music ended. Rue withdrew her hand from Felix's hand. Felix also felt liberated.
Rue was a bit tired. The high heels she wore tonight were a bit too high, and she was planning to sit next to Frederick and rest. However, Frederick walked straight over and grabbed her hand, leading her toward the center of the dance floor.
"Frederick, I need to rest for a while," Rue looked reluctant, and her heels were hurting. She just wanted to sit down and rest.
Frederick's face was expressionless, and he responded in a low and deep voice. "I'll buy you a limited-edition bag tomorrow."
Rue frowned. Did he think he could dismiss her with just a bag?
"Do you want that?" Frederick's tone was very indifferent.
Rue quickly nodded. "Yes, I want it." The Jelena family's business wasn't doing well this year, and she hadn't bought a limited-edition bag in a long time. If Frederick was voluntarily giving it to her, she would definitely accept it.
Rue followed Frederick onto the dance floor and noticed that he always led her in a different direction while dancing. She felt slightly puzzled and was about to ask when she suddenly saw Amelia and Quentin dancing beside her. She raised an eyebrow and suddenly understood everything. It turned out that she was the one being used.
