Chapter 280 Have Some Dignity, Will You?
Sandra was freaking out inside, praying he wouldn't take it out on Maria.
"Mr. Hastings, Rodolfo lost it earlier. He messed up and deserves punishment, but Maria's innocent. Please don't kick her out of the hospital," she begged.
Frederick glanced at Sandra, then looked away, his face cold, and walked off.
Felix quickly followed.
Sandra's face went pale with panic. She wanted to chase after him but Amelia held her back.
"He just doesn't like getting close to strangers. It doesn't mean he wants to kick Maria out," Amelia reassured her.
Realizing Sandra wasn't here to plead for Rodolfo, Amelia secretly sighed in relief.
She held Sandra's hand and whispered, "Don't worry, Mr. Hastings knows right from wrong. Maria's treatment plan is set. The hospital will take full responsibility."
Sandra gripped Amelia's hand, tears in her eyes. "Thank you, Dr. Davis. Maria's so lucky to have you."
Otherwise, Rodolfo and Aria would have made Maria and Sandra's lives hell.
Amelia patted her hand. "Maria needs you now. She must be scared. Go back to her."
Sandra nodded and left.
Amelia turned back to her office but suddenly remembered she hadn't given Frederick his tetanus shot. She headed to the pharmacy.
At the pharmacy entrance, Felix had already gotten Frederick's meds.
Seeing the labels on each box, Felix started tearing them off.
When Amelia walked over, she saw the scene. "What are you doing?" Amelia asked.
Felix looked up, guilt flashing in his eyes, and instinctively stood behind Frederick.
"Just checking the daily dosage," Felix mumbled, awkwardly holding the torn labels.
Amelia didn't push it and looked at Frederick. "I didn't give you the tetanus shot earlier. Come with me."
Frederick nodded and followed her.
As he walked away, he glanced back at Felix, who quickly tossed the labels in the trash.
After the shot, Frederick pressed a cotton swab to the injection site and saw Amelia already back at her desk. "I usually have lunch at twelve-thirty," he said.
Without looking up from her report, Amelia replied, "Take the meds within half an hour after eating."
Frederick's eyes darkened.
Felix whispered, "Ms. Davis, did you forget Mr. Hastings' lunch?"
Amelia paused, realizing she hadn't thought of that. She looked up at Frederick, guilt flashing in her eyes.
Frederick looked at her, a hint of complaint in his eyes.
Amelia pressed her lips together, controlling her emotions. "Alright, I'll bring it on time."
Frederick nodded, satisfied. "A few minutes late is fine, but not too late."
Amelia nodded. "Okay."
She got off work at twelve and started again at two-thirty. The drive from the hospital to Hastings Group took about twenty minutes, so she had plenty of time.
Satisfied with her response, Frederick left.
Felix and Frederick took the elevator down to the underground garage.
As soon as they stepped out, Felix spotted Amber by the car.
Amber's eyes welled up when she saw Frederick. "Frederick, can I talk to you alone?" she pleaded, tears in her eyes.
Frederick's eyes darkened. He glanced at Felix and stopped walking.
Felix immediately guided Amber away from the car. "Ms. Roberts, Mr. Hastings doesn't want to talk to you," he said coldly.
Amber refused to give up and stepped toward Frederick. "Frederick, can't you give me a chance for the sake of our past? I didn't do anything unforgivable. Why are you treating me like this?" she cried.
Seeing her approach, Felix quickly blocked her.
Amber clung to Felix's arm, looking at Frederick with a pained expression. "Frederick..."
Frederick's eyes flashed with coldness. "Ms. Roberts, we broke up six years ago. There's nothing to talk about. And I hope you won't use our past to manipulate me. There's no sentiment between us."
Amber turned pale, shocked and disbelieving. "Frederick, what do you mean? Is our relationship so unimportant to you?"
Frederick looked at her coldly. "From the beginning, I was wrong."
Amber's heart skipped a beat, tears hanging at the corners of her eyes, filled with fear and guilt. Could Frederick have found out he mistook her for someone else back then? No! He definitely didn't know! He couldn't know.
"Frederick, what are you talking about? What was wrong?" Amber asked, suppressing her inner fear.
Frederick's eyes were cold. "You should know very well why it was wrong."
Amber shook her head frantically. "I don't know, I don't know anything."
Felix frowned. Just then, security arrived, and he immediately had them pull Amber away.
Even as she was pulled away, Amber didn't give up. She struggled desperately, ignoring the injuries on her knees, kicking and punching the security personnel.
The security personnel didn't dare to really hurt her. After all, most people knew about Amber and Frederick's past relationship. If they hurt her and Frederick pursued it later, they would definitely lose their jobs.
After breaking free, Amber ran toward Frederick.
Felix quickly intercepted her, but Amber still managed to grab Frederick's coat. "Frederick, you were the one who confessed to me! You were the one who asked me to be your girlfriend! I just agreed with you! What do I need to know? What did I do wrong? You can't just dismiss all our feelings with a simple misunderstanding! You can't do this to me!" she shouted.
Frederick glanced at Felix, who immediately stepped aside.
Frederick looked indifferently at Amber, who was tightly clutching his coat. Now, he finally understood why Amber always seemed unnatural when they were dating. Especially when talking about future aspirations and anything related to Emily, she always tried to avoid the topic.
Amber thought she had convinced Frederick, and her tears flowed even more. She looked up at him only to see the endless disgust in his eyes.
Frederick's deep voice cut through the tension. "Amber, have some dignity, will you?"
