Chapter 226 An Awkward Injury

Rachel understood Patricia's intentions, but the Rodriguez family was indeed complicated.

Moreover, Amelia had no feelings for Billy.

Just as Rachel was about to decline further engagements, she caught sight of Frederick conversing with Amber outside the Rodriguez estate. A flicker of sarcasm lit up her eyes as she turned to Patricia with a knowing smile. "I'll be heading back to Kasfee tomorrow, but Amelia will be sticking around Tideport City for a bit. Good thing she'll have someone like you to look out for her. It puts my mind at ease."

Patricia was delighted to hear that Amelia would be staying in Tideport City for a while. She took Amelia's hand and said softly, "Perhaps there's some inexplicable fate between Amelia and me. The moment I saw her, I liked her very much."

Amelia responded to Patricia's enthusiasm with a smile, glancing at Rachel with a hint of complexity. Rachel, well aware of Amelia's true feelings, smiled back calmly. "Patricia, you have other guests to attend to. Amelia and I won't keep you. I'll send you Amelia's contact information so you two can chat privately."

Patricia nodded, overjoyed.

Outside the Rodriguez mansion, Frederick stood by the car, awaiting Amelia and the others. His expression darkened as he watched Patricia holding Amelia's hand and chatting.

He knew Patricia aimed to pair Amelia with Billy, but he hadn't expected her to approach Amelia so boldly after witnessing his possessiveness at dinner. It irked him.

Amber hurried out of the Rodriguez family house and saw Frederick still standing by the car. She immediately thought he was waiting for her.

Maybe he was giving her a chance to explain.

Amber walked over, bit her lip, and looked at Frederick with a mix of grievance and gratitude, saying, "Frederick, thank you for helping me out earlier."

Frederick's expression turned cold, and he glanced at her indifferently, saying, "I'm not interested in helping."

Amber paused, looking up in disbelief to meet his deep, cold gaze.

Frederick's face was expressionless, his eyes fixed in Amelia's direction.

Amber felt a sudden panic.

She bit her lip tightly and spoke softly, "I can explain about the bracelet."

Amber was anxious, seeing that Frederick's attention was not on her at all. Her heart was in torment, like an ant on a hot pan.

She continued, "I thought the bracelet was a birthday gift from you, so I..."

She stopped, realizing she couldn't justify herself.

Since she and Frederick broke up, he had never given her a birthday gift.

So why would she think it was a gift from Frederick?

Amber apologized softly. "I'm sorry, Frederick. It was my mistake. I acted impulsively because I wanted a gift from you. I used the draft to make that bracelet to comfort myself. I'm really sorry."

Amber knew that continuing to lie would only further damage her image in Frederick's eyes. It was better to admit her mistake.

Frederick was livid and disgusted as he asked, "Does apologies help? Can a simple sorry undo what happened?"

Amber's pupils contracted, her expression uneasy, and her eyes reddened.

She cried and said, "Frederick, I'm truly sorry. I didn't know the draft was so important to you, and I didn't know it was meant for Amelia. If I had known, I would never have touched it."

Amber bit her lip, tears streaming down. "I can explain to Amelia."

Despite her tears, Frederick's deep blue eyes remained unmoved. He even nodded expressionlessly. "Fine."

Amber's body stiffened, tears hanging at the corners of her eyes, avoiding eye contact with Frederick.

She didn't expect Frederick to agree.

She thought she could get away with it like every other time.

Amber stood still, quickly thinking of a way to avoid the situation.

Frederick's voice cut through her thoughts. "They're coming out."

They were coming out, and she should go explain.

Amber bit her lip, feeling a wave of humiliation.

Explaining to Amelia was so disgraceful for her.

She had just flaunted the bracelet in front of Amelia, even boasting about her relationship with Frederick.

Seeing her hesitation, Frederick said sternly, "You don't want to, do you?"

Amber quickly shook her head. She had said she would explain, and if she didn't, she would lose even more face in front of Frederick.

She hesitated, then turned and walked towards Amelia and Rachel.

It took her two minutes to cover the short distance.

As Amber approached them, she stumbled and fell towards them.

She fell awkwardly, landing on her knees.

The sharp pain in her knees left her speechless, unable to stand.

Sebastian instinctively shielded Rachel and Amelia. Seeing Amber pose no threat, he smiled. "Ms. Roberts, why are you kneeling? No need for such a formal gesture."

The pain in her knee left Amber speechless, and she didn't even have the strength to stand up.

Neither Rachel nor Amelia moved to help her.

Patricia had noticed the tension between Amber and the Davis family earlier, and Amber was Angela's friend, so she also didn't help.

"Where did you park the car?" Rachel asked Sebastian.

Sebastian pointed in Frederick's direction.

His car was parked next to Frederick's.

Amelia glanced at Amber, then withdrew her hand from Patricia's grasp and said softly, "Mrs. Rodriguez, Rachel and I will leave now. See you next time."

Patricia nodded, reluctantly seeing Amelia off.

Rachel and Sebastian headed towards the parking lot.

Amelia walked past Amber calmly, following them.

Throughout, Amber was treated as if she were invisible, not even worthy of a glance.

Patricia grew even fonder of Amelia.

Billy's future wife couldn't be too timid.

With Angela and Silas being difficult, Billy's future wife needed to be outstanding and composed both inside and out.

The more Patricia saw Amelia, the more she liked her.

After seeing them off, Patricia turned to head back to the Rodriguez Mansion.

Passing Amber, who was slowly getting up, Patricia cast her a contemptuous glance, snorted, and swiftly entered the mansion.

Amber's expression stiffened, but she felt somewhat relieved.

Though her knees were injured and her palms scraped, at least she didn't have to apologize.
