Chapter 317 Her Boyfriend Is Jesse
Amelia was about to get into her car when Frederick grabbed the door. "Are you jealous?" he asked.
Amelia glanced at Rue, who was waving at her, and bit her lip. "No, I'm just running late. I need to get back to the hospital."
Frederick ruffled her hair. "There's nothing between Rue and me. Don't be upset."
Amelia felt reassured. "I'm not upset," she said softly. "I really am going to be late."
Frederick let go of the door. "Drive safely and call me when you get there."
Amelia nodded, got in, and drove off. As she passed the Hastings Group building, Rue waved goodbye. Frederick watched her leave before heading inside.
Rue followed. "Mr. Hastings, I heard Mr. Wright is back and hosting a yacht party. Could you recommend the Jelena family to him?"
Frederick didn't hesitate. "No."
Rue felt embarrassed. "You recommended the Davis family; you could do the same for us."
Frederick stepped into the elevator. "I haven't recommended anyone to Mr. Wright."
Rue didn't believe him. "You're lying."
Frederick gave her a cold look and signaled the manager to stop her.
As the elevator doors closed, Rue tried to get in but was held back. "Ms. Jelena, if you continue, Mr. Hastings will get angry."
Rue snorted. "What a lovesick fool." She left in a huff, and the manager sighed in relief, returning to his post.
After work, Amelia was packing up when Nicole knocked and poked her head in. "Ready to go?" Nicole asked.
Amelia nodded, changed out of her lab coat, and noticed Nicole's makeup and styling. "A woman in love really does bloom," she teased.
Nicole blushed and gently pushed her. "Are you talking about yourself? I heard Mr. Hastings has been pursuing you. How's that going?"
Amelia smiled slightly. "He's persistent."
Nicole chuckled. "Good. Don't forgive him too easily. He ignored you for years; make him work for it."
Nicole's expression turned serious. She leaned in and whispered, "If Mr. Hastings finds out Anna is his child and that I tampered with the hospital's checkup, will he come after me?"
After Amelia and Frederick divorced, the hospital did a physical checkup for all doctors. Amelia was pregnant back then, and Nicole had swapped a normal report to keep the pregnancy hidden.
Amelia said softly, "I'll protect you if it comes to that."
Nicole felt reassured. She was Amelia's best friend, and even if Frederick got angry, he'd forgive her for Amelia's sake.
They chatted as they walked to the underground garage.
Amelia sat in the passenger seat, buckled up, yawned, and said, "I barely slept last night. Will there be a place on the yacht for me to nap?"
They were setting off at seven today and returning at midnight. Amelia was already feeling exhausted.
Nicole joked, "Did Mr. Hastings keep you up last night?"
Amelia raised an eyebrow. Frederick had indeed kept her up, filling her mind and keeping her awake.
Nicole, seeing Amelia's silence, got excited. "Can you explain in detail?"
Amelia snorted. "Could you be more serious?"
Nicole laughed but then her phone rang. She answered, "Honey? We're on our way and will be at the dock soon. How much good wine did you bring? Go ahead and load it onto the yacht. Todd's captain should be on board."
Amelia listened, thinking the faint male voice sounded familiar.
After Nicole hung up, Amelia smiled. "Boyfriend?"
Nicole nodded. "Yes."
Amelia smiled back. "I want to see who has won your heart."
Nicole blushed. "You actually know my boyfriend."
Amelia raised an eyebrow, thinking of the voice. "Could it be Jesse?"
