Chapter 170 He Was Ready to Be Anna's Stepfather

"I'll do it,"

Amelia spoke softly, got up from the sofa, and walked over.

Frederick did not leave, still sitting in place, watching Amelia comb Anna's hair seriously.

"When did you come over last night?"

Frederick drank a bit too much yesterday afternoon and only remembered that Paul had taken him to the Pearl Building at noon. He also vaguely dreamed of Amelia taking care of him in a daze last night.

"Yesterday afternoon."

Amelia's voice was cold. After answering, she looked at Frederick seriously.

"Mr. Hastings, Brittany is still in the hospital now. You should remember that, right?"

Frederick fell silent upon hearing this.

When he was drinking yesterday, he indeed did not restrain himself.

He deliberately wanted to get drunk to briefly forget some troubling matters.

"Mr. Hastings, your body has just recovered a bit, and you drink like this. Even if I were the best doctor in the world, I'm afraid I couldn't heal your stomach."

Anna saw the serious expression on Amelia's face and obediently sat aside, her round and bright eyes staring straight at Frederick.

"Uncle Frederick, you shouldn't drink. People who drink smell bad, and Anna doesn't like it,"

Anna spoke seriously, waving her hand as she talked.

Frederick, upon hearing this, paused for a moment and smiled, promising, "I guarantee not to drink next time. Anna will always like me."

Anna tilted her head, scrutinizing Frederick with her gaze as if probing the sincerity of his words.

After a while, she extended her little finger.

"You promise."

Frederick, seeing this, raised his hand to make a promise to Anna.

Looking at Frederick's actions, Amelia's eyes turned sullen slightly, and her tone was still indifferent.

"Anna had a high fever last night and insisted on staying here to accompany you all night. If you can't even fulfill a promise to a child like her, Frederick, you are really out of line."

Frederick's expression changed slightly as he glanced at the children's fever medicine on the table, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes.

If Anna hadn't insisted on staying here last night, Amelia probably wouldn't have stayed to take care of him.

"Mummy, Uncle Frederick won't lie,"

Before Frederick could respond to Amelia's words, Anna spoke first.

"Uncle Frederick, tell Mummy you won't lie."

With her bright eyes fixed on Frederick, her firm demeanor resembled a miniature version of Amelia.

Frederick's emotions were subtle. He looked at Anna with a gentle and indulgent gaze.

"I won't lie."

Anna smiled happily.

Seeing Anna's trust in Frederick, Amelia was speechless. She withdrew her gaze from them and said calmly, "Go wash up first."

Anna nodded obediently, got off the sofa, and put on her shoes.

Frederick also stood up, and when Anna did, she took the initiative to hold his hand.

Her small hand was soft, and she could only grasp two of his fingers.

"Uncle Frederick, I first visit your home."

Anna probably meant for Frederick to show her around his home.

Frederick reached out and picked Anna up, understanding her intention.

He had only prepared his items, not children's toiletries. So when he showed Anna around, he also had Paul bring over the child's toiletries.

When Tom arrived at the Pearl Building, Amelia was looking at some information in the workgroup.

She was off today and didn't need to go to the hospital.

However, it was her professional habit to check the workgroup first thing in the morning to see if there were any important notices.

Paul brought in the toiletries he had bought for Amelia and Anna, looking somewhat guilty when he glanced at Amelia.

He had once again inconvenienced Amelia.

"Ms. Davis, these are the toiletries Mr. Hastings ordered for you and Miss Anna."

Amelia nodded gently and reached out to take the toiletries from Paul's hand.

"Thank you." Her tone was as polite as ever.

Paul felt even more ashamed. "I'm the one who troubled you."

"I'm sorry. There was an urgent matter at the company last night, so I had to rush back to handle it, leaving Mr. Hastings in your care."

Amelia took out the toothbrush and towel from the shopping bag, speaking calmly and naturally,

"I am his family doctor, so if anything happens to him, I also have a responsibility. So, it's not a bother for you."

After saying that, she took a few steps toward the bathroom.

After walking a few steps, Amelia stopped, turned around to look at Paul, and said seriously, "Mr. Hastings has already promised Anna that he will never drink again in the future. Paul, you have been by Mr. Hastings' side for many years, so you should care about his health. I entrust the task of supervising Mr. Hastings to you. If he breaks his promise, please remind him and inform me as well."

Upon hearing this, Paul looked a bit embarrassed and was momentarily unsure whether to agree.

Frederick walked out of the study with Anna in his arms and raised an eyebrow slightly upon hearing Amelia's words to Paul.

"Then let Paul supervise," Frederick said.

Upon hearing Frederick's words, Paul felt a bit more relieved.

Since Frederick had spoken like that, he probably wouldn't drink again in the future.

Amelia helped Anna wash up in the bathroom.

Anna had learned to brush her teeth by herself now.

As she stood on a stool brushing her teeth, her movements were consistent with Amelia's.

Frederick watched this scene with interest and couldn't help but think that if he hadn't divorced Amelia in the first place, perhaps he and Amelia would have had a child together.

Thinking of this, a vague and indescribable emotion surged in his heart.

Anna couldn't brush her teeth thoroughly by herself.

After Amelia finished brushing her teeth, she took the toothbrush from Anna's hand, lifted her little face, and helped her brush.

Anna grinned, allowing Amelia to fuss over her, looking very cute.

To get a better view of her adorable demeanor, Frederick walked to the bathroom door and leaned slightly against the door frame, watching Amelia brush Anna's teeth with interest.

"Be gentle, Anna's gums are delicate."

Seeing how seriously Amelia was brushing Anna's teeth, Frederick couldn't help but worry that she might hurt the child's gums.

Amelia glanced at him sideways. She wasn't Anna's stepmother, so she would be gentle.

Paul also heard what Frederick had just said and couldn't help but look at them with some surprise.

Frederick seemed to be overly concerned, and his kind and caring gaze made it seem as if Amelia was mistreating his daughter.

Paul couldn't help but make a bold guess.

Had Frederick already prepared to be Anna's stepfather?
