Chapter 380 Amelia Always Comes in Handy

Amelia inhaled deeply, observing the women as they swiftly walked away, her eyes reflecting her discontentment. She said icily, "They didn't even see what really happened and just made things up. This will definitely affect your reputation."

Rachel let out a cold laugh, disdain dripping from her gaze as she watched the departing figures.

She said casually, "Let them talk. My reputation will precede me, and others won’t dare to mess with me. You don't need to worry about me."

Amelia frowned. "But we can't just let them spread nonsense like this. You're so gentle."

Rachel's gentlest side was reserved for her family. Despite her typically reserved demeanor, she had rarely witnessed her getting visibly angry in front of the family, especially over such matters.

Amelia couldn't stand seeing Rachel being slandered like this.

Rachel looked at her angry face, reached out to pinch her slightly puffed cheeks, and said with a smile. "They're actually helping me build my reputation, letting others know that I'm not someone to be trifled with. It will save me a lot of trouble in the future."

Amelia looked at her relaxed demeanor and sighed. "I just saw Sebastian's face; it's a mess. If he comes out later, people will misunderstand you even more."

Rachel cast an indifferent glance towards the back and spoke calmly, "He won't come to the front hall. He lacks the courage for such a confrontation."

Amelia paused, looked up at Rachel, and asked softly. "Rachel, do you want him to be brave, or do you..."

Before Amelia could finish her sentence, Rachel interrupted her calmly. "I hope he doesn't show up in front of me and disgust me."

Amelia fell silent upon hearing this.

Rachel reached out to rub Amelia's head and said softly, "I have a social event tonight so that I won't be coming home. Once the meeting is over, you should head back."

Amelia nodded, watching Rachel walk straight into the crowd.

She wore a professional smile, but it didn't reach her eyes, giving off a sense of aloofness and arrogance.

Amelia took a deep breath. Earlier, Rue had taken her to treat a representative from Yaradia's company. She hadn't expected that even someone with Rue's personality would have to be so subservient and cautious in front of the representative.

Whenever she thought about how the Davis Group was on the brink of bankruptcy, she knew Rachel must have sought help from many people.

If Rachel hadn't been truly desperate, she wouldn't have thought of using her marriage to hold onto Frederick.

Even after she divorced Frederick and received alimony, Rachel never had any designs on that money.

Seeing Rachel standing in the crowd, speaking eloquently, Amelia couldn't imagine how much hardship and effort Rachel had put into achieving her current success.

Amelia took a deep breath, her eyes filled with heartache. She had thought Sebastian could be a reliable person to take care of her, but he had made so many mistakes recently.

Layla saw Amelia standing alone in the corner and walked over, speaking softly. "Amelia."

Hearing Layla call her, Amelia turned to look at her, a hint of confusion in her eyes. "Ms. Murphy." She spoke softly, her tone polite but distant.

Amelia still remembered the disdain and contempt in Layla's eyes when she looked at her before. Now that Layla had approached her to chat, Amelia naturally felt guarded.

Layla wore a charitable smile, looked at Amelia, and spoke softly. "Time flies so fast; you've grown up so much. How is your father's health these days?"

Amelia looked at Layla, her expression slightly probing. She asked, "Do you know my father?"

Layla smiled warmly, her tone very gentle. "Has your father never mentioned me to you?"

Amelia frowned. Vincent had indeed never mentioned Layla to her. She had no memory of Layla. After she became more independent, she rarely attended social events and had no impression of Layla.

"Maybe he did, but I forgot." Amelia replied calmly, her expression composed. She guessed that Layla must have met her when she was a child.

When Layla heard Amelia's response, her expression stiffened slightly, but she quickly spoke softly. "Amelia, I am..."

Before Layla could finish her sentence, Frederick's sudden voice interrupted her. "Amelia."

Amelia turned to Frederick, worried about Rachel's reputation and concerned that Sebastian might appear in the front hall, further damaging Rachel's reputation.

She quickly glanced behind Frederick, not seeing Sebastian, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Frederick cast a cold glance at Layla, his eyes carrying a hint of warning, then reached out to pull Amelia to his side and spoke softly. "Mr. Davis just called and said Anna is upset and wants you to come back and be with her."

Amelia nodded, remembering that she had stayed at Spring Villa last night and didn't go back. Anna must have been upset not seeing her this morning, so she agreed, "Okay."

Her sister had mentioned she had a social event tonight, and Frederick naturally had one, too.

She had seen and learned a lot today, and now that her goal was achieved, she wanted to go back.

As Amelia walked away, she smiled at Layla, "Sorry, Ms. Murphy. I have to go."

Layla returned the polite smile, "It's okay, see you next time."

Amelia smiled faintly, not responding to Layla's words, and left with Frederick.

Seeing Frederick's protective behavior towards Amelia, Layla's eyes grew heavy. Seeing how attentive and considerate Frederick was toward Amelia, it seemed Shirley had no chance.

She sighed. Over the years, she had no contact with Amelia, and Amelia didn't even know her identity, so she wouldn't expect any benefits from her.

She rubbed her temples. Recently, Nancy offended the royal family of Yaradia, and Charles tightly controlled his assets, leaving them no opportunity to intervene.

Now, their only option was to return to the country. But, to develop back home, they needed strong backing.

Layla had noticed Frederick while in Yaradia, so she had Shirley return, hoping to get closer to Frederick and eventually form an alliance between the two families.

However, Shirley had yet to meet Frederick a few times, and Frederick was so devoted to Amelia, leaving no room for maneuver.

Thinking about their current predicament gave Layla a headache.

When she left, Rachel was already old enough to remember things. Rachel was now filled with hatred toward her, but Amelia didn't know her identity.

As Layla watched Amelia walk away, a sigh escaped her inwardly. She couldn't help but feel that it might be for the best that Amelia remained unaware of their shared past.

After all, she had no chance to build a relationship with Rachel. But with Amelia, she might still have a chance.

No matter what, she was Amelia's biological mother. If she could cultivate a good relationship, Amelia could still be useful to her.

Can't Win Her Back
