Chapter 245: Human Nature is Inherently Evil
"You're too self-centered. That's why you couldn't win Amelia back." Sebastian looked at Frederick with a smile, his words hitting Frederick right in the gut.
Frederick furrowed his brows, remained silent for a few seconds, and turned serious.
Seeing his heavy expression, Sebastian added calmly, "Honestly, being a simp isn't that bad. At least the person you want to keep stays by your side."
Frederick gripped the steering wheel tighter, thinking about his state of mind these past few days.
All his emotions seemed to be tied to Amelia's attitude.
This wasn't a good thing.
His eyes turned cold, and he glanced indifferently at Sebastian.
"I will never be like you, lowering myself for a woman." He said coldly and started the car. Flooring the gas pedal, he drove off.
Sebastian hastily pulled his hand back, almost falling over and getting a face full of exhaust.
He cursed under his breath.
Now Sebastian understood why Rachel had always tried to stop Frederick and Amelia from getting back together.
The haughty demeanor of Frederick, so arrogantly aloof, was quite punchable.
If they hadn't been childhood friends, Sebastian wouldn't bother with Frederick, wanting to see how long Frederick could keep up his arrogance in front of Amelia.
Sebastian snorted, dusted himself off, and walked toward the Davis Manor.
In Tideport City.
Amelia and Kimberly planned to return to Kasfee General Hospital in two days.
Rodolfo, who rarely visited the hospital, came when he heard Amelia and Kimberly were planning to go back to Kasfee General Hospital.
During this time, Sandra hadn't caused him any trouble, so he thought Amelia might not have heard his phone conversation that day. Rodolfo was completely relieved.
During rounds, Amelia and the other professor's assistants followed at the back.
Jessica stood in front of Professor Brown.
Although Maria's condition had stabilized a bit recently, new issues had arisen in the past two days.
Everyone was actively thinking of new treatment plans.
Sandra also noticed Maria's mental state wasn't as good as it had been a few days ago.
Sandra was very anxious.
Since Maria's plan to go to Kasfee General Hospital failed, Jessica became the most active assistant among the professors, coming up with many plans that were approved by Professor Brown and other professors.
Amelia rarely voiced her opinions.
She and Kimberly always insisted that Maria's condition couldn't be treated with conservative methods alone.
Maria's gaze passed through the crowd and landed on Amelia, her eyes filled with a hint of pain, making Amelia feel very uncomfortable.
After the rounds, Professor Brown called Maria's parents into a temporary office.
Jessica presented her recent treatment plan, seeking Sandra's opinion.
Thinking of the look Maria gave her earlier, Amelia, who usually didn't like interrupting others, interrupted Jessica this time.
"If there's a better plan, why choose a worse one?" Amelia asked.
Professor Brown immediately darkened his face, and Jessica also turned ugly as she immediately retorted, "What is the better plan? Taking the risk of sending Maria to Kasfee General Hospital is the best plan? That plan is only best for you."
Amelia was cold but insisted, "Only my plan can control Maria's condition. All the data and test reports can prove it."
Everyone fell silent.
What Amelia said was true. Only her plan had controlled Maria's condition.
During this time, they had no direction, while Amelia's plan was very clear.
Jessica bit her lip, full of dissatisfaction and displeasure.
Jessica had been trying to come up with a plan to stabilize Maria's condition. Still, after days of exploration, Maria's condition hadn't changed at all and had even worsened.
She had to admit that Amelia's plan was the best among the known plans so far.
Kimberly sighed softly and stood up, "Dr. Davis, let's temporarily withdraw from the treatment group's discussion."
Amelia moved her lips, glanced at Sandra, who had her head down, and finally stood up.
As the two were about to leave the temporary meeting room, Rodolfo called out to them, "Professor Harris, Dr. Davis."
Amelia and Kimberly stopped, and the other professors and assistants also looked at Rodolfo.
Seeing so many people looking at him, Rodolfo smiled awkwardly and began to speak, "I recently heard from Sandra that you intend to take Maria to Kasfee General Hospital for treatment. It is indeed an excellent hospital in the country, but the treatment costs there are something we ordinary people can't afford."
Kimberly frowned upon hearing this. She asked, "Didn't Maria recently receive donations? That money is completely sufficient."
Rodolfo lowered his head and said, "But you can't guarantee Maria's condition will be well-treated. If you fail, what about Maria's future living and medical expenses..."
Amelia furrowed her brows.
Rodolfo was now unwilling to spend this money.
Some formal donations to Maria's family were already enough to cover most of Maria's treatment costs, not to mention a large portion of donations transferred in cash by kind-hearted people to Maria's parents.
Accumulating all this money, if it were all spent on Maria, it would be enough.
Everyone naturally heard the implication in Rodolfo's words.
Greed was something everyone had. It was human nature.
They had never had so much money before, so they tried their best to save Maria because nothing was worse than losing her.
But now that they had so much wealth, they feared losing both Maria and the money.
If they couldn't save Maria, they still wanted to keep the money, especially Rodolfo, who had other hopes and wanted to hold on to this wealth.
Just as Amelia was about to speak, Kimberly pulled her back.
Kimberly's eyes were cold, and she said indifferently, "Then discuss it among your family and let us know."
With that, Kimberly took Amelia and left.
At lunchtime, Amelia and Kimberly passed by the emergency exit and heard Rodolfo and Sandra arguing inside.
Rodolfo explained, "It's not that I don't agree to go to Kasfee General Hospital, but once we go there, the medical costs are so high that it will use up all the money. What about Maria's future treatment?"
Sandra sobbed softly, "But we didn't have this money in the first place. If Maria's illness continues to drag on like this, what future are we talking about?"
Rodolfo remained silent for a few seconds and then said, "But we still have to live, don't you?"
Rodolfo lowered his voice significantly, and Amelia and Kimberly couldn't hear the rest.
It was clear Rodolfo was trying to persuade Sandra.
Kimberly shook her head, sighed softly, and said in a low voice, "Human nature is inherently evil."
With a windfall, even their child could be abandoned.
