Chapter 486 Had No Intention of Appeasing Sebastian
Casey glanced back at Rachel, hesitating a bit. "Ms. Rachel, are you sure you want to toss this dress?"
Rachel's eyes narrowed, her voice cold. "I don't want to repeat myself."
Casey quickly looked down, feeling the intensity of Rachel's presence. "Got it. I'll get rid of it."
Rachel's gaze stayed firm. "Do it now."
A shiver ran down Casey's spine. She'd done plenty to feel guilty about, and Rachel's demeanor only made her more anxious.
Without another word, she hurried downstairs to toss the dress and shoes into the trash can outside the Davis Manor.
"Rachel," Amelia called softly.
Rachel turned, giving Amelia a weary look. "I'll talk to Dad alone tomorrow. Don't stress too much." Rachel reassured her, her voice steady, "Dad probably won't bother Frederick again after this."
Vincent had always been cautious about causing more trouble for his daughter. His clash with Frederick was a plea to avoid adding more burdens on Rachel.
Amelia bit her lip, worry etched on her face. "Then..."
Rachel patted her shoulder, her voice gentle. "Don't say anything. Dad will figure it out." Amelia got the message. The fewer people who knew their plans, the better.
Rachel had been carefully plotting ever since Layla and Nancy came back to Kasfee, and everything was going according to plan.
Amelia didn't want to add to Rachel's stress, so she nodded. "I get it."
Rachel gave a faint smile, her exhaustion showing. "Go rest. I need to rest too." Amelia nodded and headed to her room.
Sebastian didn't leave right away. He sat in his car, smoking. When he saw Casey come out of the Davis Manor, he looked puzzled. The stuff in her hands looked like the clothes Rachel had worn when she was out with him.
Sebastian frowned, opened the car door, and got out.
After throwing the dress into the trash can, Casey muttered to herself, "Rich folks are something else, wearing stuff just once and then tossing it. Wonder which cleaner will get lucky tomorrow."
Just as Casey finished talking and turned around, she saw a man standing behind her.
Casey jumped and patted her chest. "Sir, do you walk without making any noise?"
Sebastian walked to the trash can with a cold expression, picked up the clothes, and looked really upset.
Seeing Sebastian's gloomy face, Casey didn't stick around and quickly went back to the Davis Manor.
Sebastian stood by the trash can for what felt like forever, clutching the clothes. Eventually, he went back to his car, the weight of the evening heavy on him.
Inside the car, he glanced back at the light still on in Rachel's room. The pain in his eyes was clear; bridging the gap between them seemed impossible.
Rachel heard the sound of a car pulling away and shut her window with a sense of finality.
Tonight, she had no plans to placate Sebastian. She'd made sure Casey tossed her clothes, knowing Sebastian would see it.
Sebastian drove off, his mind a mess of regret. He then called Frederick.
"Let's grab a drink," he said when Frederick picked up. But Frederick, lounging comfortably and chatting with Amelia, wasn't in the mood. "No time," he replied curtly.
Sebastian, not giving up, pushed on. "I went to the Davis Manor today." Frederick's brow furrowed. Knowing his phone was monitored, he kept his curiosity in check. "What does that have to do with me?" he replied coldly.
Sebastian sighed deeply, "Frederick, I regret it now. We grew up together as friends. I know your character. I don't want you to regret it later. Remember how you were when Amelia was gone for three years?"
Frederick's grip on the phone tightened, silently signaling to Amelia, hoping she'd catch on to the context of his next words.
"It was just a sense of loss," he said nonchalantly. "I never had feelings for her during our three-year marriage. But I have to admit, habits are scary. She was by my side, so I got used to having her around. And then, after she left for three years, I got used to her not being there."
As he spoke, he texted Amelia immediately.
Frederick: [Honey, everything I've said recently is against my true feelings. Please don't be upset by my words.]
Sebastian chuckled bitterly. "What about Anna? Today, when I went to the Davis Manor, Anna cried and said she never wanted to see you again."
Frederick's heart ached. His daughter, always so strong, must have felt deeply hurt by his recent neglect.
"My child should live with me," Frederick declared firmly.
Sebastian was silent for a long time. "Do you want to fight Amelia for Anna's custody?" he asked cautiously.
Frederick didn't respond right away. Sebastian pressed on, "Frederick, if you go down this path, you'll never have a chance with Amelia again. Amelia's behavior seemed off today."
Sebastian had clearly noticed a significant change in Amelia's attitude. Frederick had already been given a second chance. If he really fought Amelia for custody, he might never get another shot.
"Sebastian, I have my plans," he replied coldly. "Just handle your own business."
With that, Frederick ended the call, unwilling to keep talking with Sebastian.
Sebastian had mishandled his relationship with Rachel from the start, and now, the path to redemption seemed daunting and full of obstacles.
