Chapter 378 It Was Kenneth Who Did It
Sebastian was deeply moved when he saw that Rachel was still willing to give him a chance.
Having been in a relationship with Rachel for so many years, he knew that although Rachel appeared cold on the outside, she was actually very soft-hearted.
As long as he seized every opportunity to talk to Rachel, he could rekindle their relationship.
He stepped forward to follow Rachel, his expression no longer as sad as before.
Rachel glanced around the back hall and, seeing no one, stopped and said coldly. "If you have something to say, just say it."
Her voice remained indifferent, devoid of any trace of emotion, as she spoke. She didn't even bother to turn around and acknowledge Sebastian's presence standing behind her.
Sebastian looked at Rachel's back, wanting to reach out and hug her, but as soon as he extended his hand, Rachel turned to look at him, not willing to give him even an extra second.
"Mr. Kingsley, you should know what day it is today. Everyone is quite busy, so please don't waste each other's time, okay?" As Rachel spoke, she looked down at Sebastian's hand, who was reaching out to her. Her eyes turned cold, and her expression was particularly disdainful.
Sebastian clearly saw Rachel's look of disdain. He frowned, took a deep breath, and froze his hand.
"Rachel," he began, his voice strained. "I already know I was wrong. I shouldn't have sympathized with Clara, shouldn't have handled those things behind your back. I always thought I could handle those things well and didn't want Clara's presence to affect our relationship."
Sebastian paused, then said in a hoarse voice, "I'm sorry. I was too arrogant."
Rachel quietly looked at Sebastian, her expression unchanged.
She looked at him for a long time before speaking softly. "Is there anything else you want to say?"
Sebastian's apology at this moment did not move Rachel at all.
Sebastian's expression changed slightly, and he looked at Rachel in shock. Seeing the coldness in Rachel's eyes, a great fear and unease flashed in his heart.
He continued urgently, "Rachel, we were about to get married. There's really nothing between Clara and me. I admit I wanted to take care of her, but that was just my compassion." He paused, searching her face for any sign of reconsideration. "You know I don't like her. We've been together for so many years. Do you really have no trust in me at all?" He pleaded in a low voice.
Even though Rachel was standing right in front of him, Sebastian felt that she was very far away. As Sebastian attempted to reach out and grab Rachel's arm, intending to bridge the gap between them, she swiftly stepped back, evading his touch.
The distance between them grew even wider.
Sebastian panicked and reached out, simply grabbing at the air.
It felt like a dream, with Rachel right in front of him, but he couldn't reach her.
"Rachel." Sebastian's face turned pale, and he looked at Rachel helplessly.
"I really don't want to lose you," he pleaded one more time.
Rachel maintained a safe distance from Sebastian. She looked at Sebastian calmly and replied coldly. "But you have lost me. Sebastian, maybe we shouldn't have gotten back together after our last breakup."
She spoke these words expressionlessly, but they tore a hole in Sebastian's heart. He looked at Rachel, standing not far from him, in disbelief and took a deep breath.
Seeing his painful expression, Rachel remained unmoved and indifferent. Her sadness had long been dissolved in the nights of that time. Rachel had always been a restrained person when it came to emotions.
So, seeing Sebastian trying to keep her now, she wouldn't be as tormented as she was during those sleepless nights.
Rachel declared calmly. "Mr. Kingsley, just like David Jenkins said earlier, we're all from Kasfee and will see each other often. Since we've broken up, let's make a clean break and not continue to entangle."
With that, Rachel took a step to leave, but Sebastian grabbed her arm. He tightened his grip on Rachel's hand, not worried about hurting her, only worried that she would leave him.
He shouted, "Rachel. I just helped Clara because I felt sorry for her. There was nothing inappropriate between us. Why don't you believe me? Why don't you believe me?"
Rachel quietly looked at the somewhat hysterical Sebastian, her brows slightly furrowed. His grip on her arm was strong, causing her some pain.
She spoke indifferently, "Sebastian, I remember that day at the restaurant when Helen deliberately beat Clara in front of us. You had already contacted Clara by then, right? I asked you what you were thinking during that pause. You didn't answer me, nor did you tell me about Clara's child. You were already considering that if the child were yours, you would hide her and raise her secretly."
Sebastian's face went pale, and he gazed at Rachel in disbelief. It was true that he had entertained that thought at the time, but deep down, he knew that the child was not his own.
He explained hurriedly, "Rachel, that situation won't happen. That child isn't mine. You know that. You know it clearly. Why..."
Rachel interrupted him calmly. "Even if the child isn't yours, you still had that thought at the time. Sebastian, I'm glad I found out early. Otherwise, if we had gotten married, we would be a community of interests. For the sake of the Davis family's reputation and the company, I would have to endure and accept the child's existence."
Rachel sneered. "That's why you were so eager to get married and enthusiastically preparing for the wedding, isn't it?"
Rachel's words struck Sebastian's heart. His expression became somewhat dizzy, and his grip on Rachel's arm loosened slightly out of guilt.
Rachel frowned at his changing expression, the mockery in her eyes growing stronger. What she had been suspecting was now confirmed in front of Sebastian.
Sebastian had indeed formulated plans before verifying the child's true identity. He had harbored no intention of being on the same page as her from the very beginning.
Rachel shook off his hand and looked at him with disdain. She snapped. "Sebastian, I've given you too many chances, and you've never seized any of them. You even resorted to such despicable means last night. Well, you've already used such lowly means once, so you don't mind using them a second time. Do you think that just because we had slept together, I would get back together with you?"
Sebastian looked up sharply at Rachel when she mentioned last night and denied it. "Rachel, last night's incident had nothing to do with me! It was Kenneth who did it! You can't blame me for everything just because you have a bias against me."
