Chapter 466 They Won't Escape Justice

Amelia had been off work for ages, and her desk was buried under a mountain of tasks. She was swamped all day. When she finally snagged a moment to herself, she decided to drop by Cynthia's ward.

As she arrived, she saw Ken coming out, which really threw her. He'd said he was leaving, but here he was, still hanging around Kasfee. The tough guy act was gone, replaced by a surprising gentleness.

"I want to take Dylan's mom to Fondaniss to look after her, but she won't budge. Ms. Davis, could you help talk her into it?" Ken's voice was low, almost pleading.

Amelia's brow furrowed. How could Ken, who couldn't even keep Dylan safe, promise anything for Cynthia in Fondaniss? She took a deep breath and said firmly, "Mrs. Kingsley is fine here in Kasfee. Are you sure Fondaniss is safe for her? Especially with your wife, Ms. Made, who might not be too thrilled about it."

Ken frowned, looking serious. "Line won't mind. Dylan's gone, and she feels really guilty. She's been punished too."

Amelia's eyes narrowed, trying to gauge his honesty. "So you knew about the video?"

Ken went silent. Amelia took another deep breath, her tone cutting. "You knew about it and did nothing? Was that your way of punishing Dylan?"

Amelia knew Dylan and Ken had fought a lot about Line back then. Maybe because Ken never divorced her and Dylan pushed too hard, he left Dylan alone in Kasfee, letting Line expose the video as a punishment for Dylan's defiance.

When Dylan was falling apart, Ken knew everything but did nothing, letting Dylan suffer alone. Now that Dylan was gone, he was blaming others for hurting Dylan. But really, the one who hurt Dylan the most was Ken himself.

Amelia took a deep breath to keep her cool. She said sternly, "To Mrs. Kingsley, you're one of the reasons Dylan's gone, so she won't go to Fondaniss with you. If you want her to have peace, then help clear the way for her."

Ken's face shifted as he listened to Amelia. If Rachel had said this, he wouldn't have been surprised, but Amelia had always seemed as gentle and kind as Dylan. He hadn't expected this sharp side of her.

Amelia looked at him calmly and spoke again. "What? Mr. Angoulême can't handle it?"

Ken looked away and replied, "Of course I can."

Amelia took a deep breath and said, "Thank you, for Dylan."

Ken's expression turned subtle. He was quiet for a long time before muttering, "If Dylan had changed like you, maybe..."

Amelia cut him off, "No ifs."

Hearing her words, Ken's face changed slightly, a flicker of pain in his eyes.

Amelia didn't want to see his sadness and walked past him into Cynthia's ward. He knew how Dylan felt about him, so what was the point of regret now? Dylan had faced pressures Amelia couldn't imagine, losing everything, feeling like a burden even to Cynthia, which led to his tragic end.

Ken stood at the door, his sorrow morphing into a steely resolve before he walked away. Inside, Cynthia's face lit up when she saw Amelia. She tried to sit up too quickly and got dizzy.

"Mrs. Kingsley, please lie down," Amelia urged, helping her. Cynthia steadied herself and asked, "Is the issue with Frederick resolved?"

Amelia nodded lightly. "Mrs. Kingsley, don't worry. It's been taken care of. But there are still some follow-up issues being handled."

Cynthia sighed in relief, clutching Amelia's hand. "Dylan wouldn't want you all to be implicated."

Hearing Cynthia's words, Amelia's eyes reddened slightly, but she quickly held back her tears and said softly, "Mrs. Kingsley, the most important thing for you now is to rest and take care of your health."

Cynthia's jaw tightened with pain. "I want to rest, but as long as I think about Harold not getting what he deserves, my heart aches. Harold's been selling off his assets, probably planning to flee with Catherine. The video only got him detained for a while."

Amelia frowned as Cynthia continued, her voice trembling with anger. "Why is it that my son is dead, but they can go unpunished? I won't let them get away with it, even if it destroys me."

Amelia held Cynthia's hand tightly, trying to calm her down. Cynthia soon calmed and switched topics. "Did you see Ken when you came in?"

Amelia nodded. "He wants to take you to Fondaniss to live, to take care of you for Dylan."

Cynthia's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Fondaniss, I will go. But not now."

Amelia looked at her with concern. Fondaniss was complicated, and Line likely wasn't as forgiving as she seemed. Women could be very petty about such matters.

Cynthia noticed Amelia's concern and smiled lightly, saying softly, "I just want to see the places Dylan lived, the paths he walked. I regret not being there for him, letting him go abroad alone so young."

Tears fell from Cynthia's eyes, magnifying her past regrets. An intern appeared outside the room, looking for Amelia.

"Go attend to your work, Amelia. You've worked hard," Cynthia said softly. "Don't worry about me. For Dylan's sake, I'll be fine."

Amelia patted her hand gently. "They won't escape justice."

Cynthia nodded seriously. "Right."

Amelia gave Cynthia a few more instructions and then got up to leave. She rushed to handle a patient issue the intern brought to her attention. After resolving it, she passed by Maria's room. Sandra saw her and quickly expressed her gratitude. "Dr. Davis, thank you and all the doctors for your efforts. If it weren't for you, Maria wouldn't have recovered so well."

With the right treatment plan, Maria's health has been improving well, and Amelia monitored her progress daily in the work group. The morning's meeting had confirmed that Maria could go home to recuperate within two weeks.

Amelia genuinely shared in Sandra's happiness. 'Mothers are truly great,' she thought, acknowledging Sandra's unyielding support for her daughter's recovery.
