Chapter 487 Frederick Wants to Remarry
Amelia stared at the flood of messages from Frederick, trying to convince her he was being genuine. She gripped her phone tight, took a deep breath, and finally typed back.
Amelia: [Alright, I believe you.]
Frederick felt a wave of relief wash over him when he saw her reply.
The next day, after work, Amelia headed back to Davis Manor to pick up Anna and drive over to Hastings Manor.
Brittany had already arranged for dinner to be ready. When Amelia and Anna walked in, she greeted them with a warm smile.
Anna cried out, her voice cracking. "I missed you so much."
Anna's tears filled her eyes, catching Brittany off guard. She quickly wiped them away with a shaky hand, her heart breaking at the sight of Anna's distress.
Unable to speak well due to her condition, she looked visibly anxious.
Amelia gently rubbed Anna's head. "Anna, don't cry."
Anna sniffled a few times and leaned her head against Brittany's leg, still looking upset.
Tom glanced around and then said softly, "Mrs. Amelia Hastings, let's go inside."
Amelia nodded, picked up Anna, and they walked into Hastings Manor. Tom gave a few instructions to the security at the door before catching up with them.
Once they settled in the living room, Anna couldn't hold back anymore and started pouring her heart out to Brittany.
She tearfully explained how Frederick had been ignoring her, not answering her calls or spending time with her. Even the seasoned staff like Mary felt a pang of sorrow, let alone Brittany.
Brittany had been briefed by Tom the night before and understood Frederick's reasons, but seeing Anna so heartbroken made her angry. Frederick needed to be held accountable for causing Anna such pain.
Amelia wiped Anna's tears and comforted her. "Daddy will be here soon, then you can talk to him."
Anna's tears slowed a bit at the mention of her dad coming, but the hurt in her eyes was still there.
Frederick, however, was caught up in other pressing matters. Brittany had Tom call him multiple times, growing more frustrated with each passing minute. It was only after several stern messages that Frederick finally returned to the manor.
As soon as he walked in, the security personnel closed the main gate, making sure no one outside could see what was happening inside.
With Amelia and the other servants comforting her, Anna's mood had improved a lot.
When Frederick entered, he saw Anna playing with toys, her back to him. He remembered Sebastian calling him last night to say that Anna had been crying, and his heart tightened. He walked over and picked up Anna, who was sitting on the floor playing with toys.
Anna, still clutching her toy, was startled when she was suddenly lifted off the ground.
Almost instinctively, she threw the toy at Frederick, hitting him right on the forehead, causing it to immediately turn red.
Realizing it was Frederick, Anna froze in shock. Despite the pain, Frederick just held her tightly. "Anna, did you miss me?" he asked softly.
Anna's eyes turned red and she pouted, refusing to speak. Frederick pressed his forehead against hers, his voice gentle. "Can you forgive me? I've been really busy lately."
As soon as Frederick finished speaking, tears started to fall from Anna's eyes.
Frederick held Anna tighter, his tone becoming even gentler. "Anna, have you been scared lately? I will never abandon you, sweetie. I will always love you and your mom."
Anna continued to cry silently, unable to voice her hurt. Frederick's eyes mirrored her emotions. "Can you forgive me?" he pleaded softly. But Anna shook her head.
Frederick felt a sharp pang in his chest. "What can I do to make you forgive me?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Anna replied firmly, "I don't want to forgive Daddy."
Frederick's heart tightened. Even though he knew Anna was speaking out of anger, it still hurt. "I'm sorry, baby. I really have been too busy. I made you feel wronged," Frederick said softly, but Anna remained silent.
Brittany had felt unwell earlier, so Amelia had taken her to a room to get some oxygen. When she came out, she saw Frederick standing in the living room, holding Anna and apologizing softly.
Frederick sensed someone looking at him and turned to see Amelia. His eyes immediately showed a hint of pleading. "Honey," he called out, moving toward her with Anna in his arms.
Amelia reached out, taking Anna from him. The moment Anna was back in Amelia's arms, she buried her face in Amelia's neck, crying softly.
Seeing this, Frederick felt a fresh wave of guilt wash over him. Amelia gently patted Anna's back. She cooed, "Anna, didn't you say you missed Daddy? He's right here now."
But Anna only clung to Amelia tighter. Amelia sighed, her voice calm but firm. "Let's give her some time to calm down."
She began to walk away, but Frederick caught her by the waist, pulling them into his embrace.
Frederick's eyes held a mix of desperation and longing. "After all this is over, let's remarry, okay?" His voice was earnest, filled with a vulnerability that caught Amelia off-guard.
Amelia's body stiffened slightly. She looked at Frederick, whispering, "Let's talk about it after this matter is resolved."
Frederick's deep blue eyes showed a glimmer of anxiety. "Honey, am I doing something wrong?" he asked softly, his voice tinged with desperation.
Amelia was silent for a moment before she spoke softly. "No. It's just not the right time to discuss this."
