Chapter 498 Shifted the Decision to Sebastian

Sebastian's heart skipped a beat. He quickly glanced at Rachel and said, "This has nothing to do with me."

Rachel gave a slight nod, a cold glint in her eyes, and replied, "I know, Mr. Kingsley."

Sebastian let out a quiet sigh of relief. Even though Rachel had moved on from him, they could still be civil. As long as she didn't hate him, it was a start.

"Let's go in," Rachel said softly.

Sebastian nodded and led Rachel into the restaurant.

Orville, who was chatting with Nancy, noticed Rachel and Sebastian approaching. His expression shifted slightly, and his smile faded a bit, but he still greeted Rachel calmly, "Ms. Davis. Long time no see."

Ever since Rachel's feud with Frederick began, Orville had been keeping his distance, not wanting to get involved.

Orville probably didn't expect Sebastian to bring Rachel along. To outsiders, their relationship seemed beyond repair.

Rachel wore a faint smile, not as bright as Nancy's but still appropriate. "It has been a while. I heard from Sebastian that Mr. Larson was treating him to dinner, so I tagged along."

At that moment, hearing Rachel address him like that, he couldn't help but smile.

Orville's gaze shifted between Rachel and Sebastian, and then he seemed to realize something, his smile deepening. "Ms. Davis, I was worried you were too busy and forgot to notify you. Let's talk in the private room."

Orville gestured for Rachel and Sebastian to follow him inside.

Rachel slightly curled her lips and followed Orville into the private room.

Nancy's smile faded as Rachel brushed past her, feeling a wave of discomfort.

She gritted her teeth, not expecting Rachel to use even her ex-boyfriend's connection to deal with her.

She sneered inwardly, her eyes filled with mockery. 'Rachel is just relying on men. In the end, she still can't beat me.'

Nancy took a deep breath and stepped into the private room. She had planned to use Orville's dinner invitation to propose working with Sebastian on a project. That was why she arrived early to talk to Orville first. She had hinted at her intentions, and Orville seemed quite satisfied with her proposal, even considering it.

Sebastian walked into the private room and pulled out a chair for Rachel.

Rachel bent down to sit, wearing a faint smile, and softly thanked him, "Thank you."

After hearing that, Sebastian said softly, "No need to be so formal with me."

Rachel's expression remained unchanged. Orville observed everything, making his assessments. Earlier, Nancy had mentioned her relationship with Frederick, so Orville was quite interested in her proposal to work with Sebastian on this project.

After all, Nancy had been very close to Frederick lately, with rumors of their possible engagement everywhere.

To be honest, Nancy had just returned to Kasfee and mostly dealt with investment projects without any hands-on experience in managing a project. She hadn't worked on any projects before, and her team wasn't very competent. So, Orville wasn't very satisfied when he first met with Nancy, which was why he sought out Sebastian.

But now that Nancy had Frederick's backing, her flaws seemed less significant to Orville. He'd also heard that many projects from Ascending Company, which had been working with the Davis Group and the Hastings Group, had recently been put on hold.

Everyone knew Ascending Company had been thriving thanks to the Hastings Group, securing lucrative projects and becoming Rachel's cash cow. Now, the Hastings Group didn't want the Davis Group to profit anymore.

So, Orville hadn't planned on working with Rachel, even though she had way more project experience than Nancy. Rachel had weathered several storms with the Davis Group and always managed to stabilize things. No matter how she did it, it showed she was capable.

But with Sebastian bringing Rachel along, it was clear he wasn't interested in working with Nancy. Orville had to reconsider.

Orville spoke up, "Since Ms. Davis and Ms. Wright are both here today, let's talk about the South Suburb Project. I've had more discussions with Ms. Davis about this project, but in the end, I chose to hand it over to Mr. Kingsley. Ms. Davis, you won't hold this against me, will you? Our previous discussions were quite pleasant."

Rachel stayed composed and replied calmly, "Mr. Larson, it's a regret we couldn't collaborate, but it doesn't affect our friendship. Whoever ends up with the project, I'm sure you made a careful decision. In business, profit is what matters most."

Orville felt relieved hearing Rachel's words. He was wary of her. The Davis Group had faced many hardships but always bounced back. Weighing the pros and cons, Orville didn't want to offend Rachel too much.

Nancy listened to Orville's words, a hint of displeasure in her eyes.

Orville, noticing her reaction, smiled at her. "Ms. Wright, I know you're very interested in this project and want to collaborate with Mr. Kingsley. I'll leave the project entirely to him. As for who he wants to collaborate with, you can discuss it privately. Today, let's not talk about work and enjoy other topics."

Orville smiled, shifting the decision to Sebastian. Nancy cursed inwardly but kept a polite smile. By giving Sebastian the choice, Orville clearly indicated he wanted Sebastian and Rachel to work together on this project. Nancy was displeased but maintained her courteous demeanor.

Rachel's eyes held a hint of mockery as she suggested, "Since Ms. Wright is so interested in this project, Sebastian, why don't you choose to collaborate with Ms. Wright? Ms. Wright is new here, so you should give her a hand."

Nancy looked up at Rachel and noticed the playful glint in her eyes, coupled with the condescending tone of a senior addressing a newcomer. A surge of frustration welled up within her.

Rachel's pleasant words masked her implication of Nancy's incompetence to Orville.
