Chapter 149 Immoral Guilt
When Amelia and Nicole arrived, Anna and Vincent were already in the restaurant's private room.
Vincent ordered some snacks for Anna and then handed the menu to Nicole.
"Nicole, please order," he said.
Nicole politely declined and instead looked at Anna, showing her fondness for her.
Finally, Amelia ordered the food, also ordered oatmeal for Frederick, and then gave a few instructions to the chef in the kitchen.
Anna and Nicole chatted at the table, two people who were meeting for the first time conversing very pleasantly.
Nicole couldn't help but sigh. "What should I do to have such a lovely daughter without marrying a man?"
Amelia smiled faintly. "No need for a husband, just a child."
Nicole also couldn't help but chuckle softly. Thinking back to when she advised Amelia to give up the child to save her job, she felt truly regretful.
It was hard not to like such a lovely daughter.
After the meal, they returned to the hospital.
Nicole's patient needed her, so she left first.
Amelia walked with Vincent and Anna.
Vincent was very concerned about Frederick's condition.
"Amelia, tell me honestly. Is Frederick's condition serious?" Vincent asked.
It was indeed worrying when a young man like Frederick was frequently hospitalized.
Amelia looked at Vincent's anxious expression and smiled helplessly.
"It's not severe, but it's not without problems," she answered.
After all, Frederick's illness had accumulated over the past three years, so rapid recovery was probably impossible. He needed a long period of recuperation.
But with his frequent business dinners and inability to restrain himself from drinking, the illness would surely flare up often.
Vincent breathed a sigh of relief and glanced in Anna's direction, saying lightly, "As long as it's not serious."
Amelia understood Vincent's meaning and whispered, "Dad, don't worry. His condition isn't serious enough to be fatal. So we won't mention Anna's background, right?"
Vincent nodded and said, "Right."
With Vincent's response, Amelia finally relaxed a bit.
Vincent probably felt guilty for hiding Anna's true identity while Frederick was already ill.
However, Frederick's condition wasn't that critical yet.
Considering Amber's personality, Amelia couldn't risk revealing Anna's situation.
Although Amber seemed fine physically, she hadn't rested properly after her surgery, making it somewhat difficult for her to conceive.
Amelia was not sure about Frederick's character.
Anna had visited the VIP ward once before. As she walked out of the elevator, she headed straight to Frederick's ward.
Amelia carried the oatmeal for Frederick, so her pace was slower than Anna's.
When Anna reached the room's entrance, she peeked in, and upon seeing Frederick, a bright smile lit up her face.
"Uncle Frederick," she greeted.
After finishing his work, Paul arrived at the hospital.
He brought oatmeal for Frederick, but Frederick asked him to give it to the elderly in the other rooms instead.
Paul was puzzled by Frederick's actions.
Seeing Anna peeking into the room with a bright smile, Paul finally understood what Frederick meant.
Everyone adored such a lovely child.
He glanced cautiously at Frederick's expression, noticing the softening of his face upon seeing Anna.
Though he didn't respond to Anna, his gaze followed her continuously.
Anna ran to Frederick's bedside. As her eyes scrutinized the needle in his hand, her face was contorted as if just seeing the needle caused her pain.
"Uncle Frederick, you got another IV fluid injection." As she spoke, she gently blew on Frederick's hand.
Looking at her adorable demeanor, Frederick couldn't help but reach out and gently pat her head, his eyes filled with unmistakable affection.
As Amelia entered the room, she saw Frederick's hand resting on Anna's head.
His face exuded kindness, and his deep blue eyes carried a hint of paternal love.
Amelia pursed her lips, handed the oatmeal to Frederick, and pushed the meal tray closer to the bed.
"Your stomach can only handle a bit of oatmeal for now, so have some."
Her voice was calm. She placed the spoon in the oatmeal bowl and stepped aside.
Vincent also entered the room from outside.
Frederick, who had been lying casually, adjusted his sitting position immediately.
"Vincent," Frederick called out politely.
Vincent nodded, glanced at the oatmeal on the tray, and said softly, "This was specially prepared by the kitchen at Amelia's request. I'm not sure if it suits your taste."
Before trying the oatmeal, Frederick responded, "Of course, it's suitable."
Upon hearing this, Amelia glanced faintly at Frederick.
Frederick's attention wasn't on Amelia but on Vincent, and he engaged in a polite conversation.
"Let's have the oatmeal first. It'll get cold, and we can chat later." Looking at Frederick's lack of action, Vincent reminded him.
It was only then that Anna noticed Frederick's other hand was bruised.
Her round eyes filled with concern, she said, "Uncle Frederick, you must be in pain."
Vincent nodded at her words, gently ruffled Anna's head, and said, "Yes, Uncle Frederick isn't feeling well right now. So Anna, please don't make too much noise."
Anna obediently nodded, then reached out to tug at Amelia.
"Mommy," Anna said.
Amelia was taken aback.
Anna saw that Amelia was not doing anything, so she pulled Amelia again.
"Uncle Frederick is in pain," Anna said.
Anna had been injected before, but it wasn't that bad.
Amelia was afraid of pain when she was little, so Anna was the same as her.
At this time, seeing the back of Frederick's hand was bruised, Anna naturally felt that Frederick was in pain.
Looking at Anna's persistence, Amelia awkwardly smiled. As she was about to tell Anna that Uncle Frederick didn't need anything, Frederick lying on the bed spoke in a low voice, "It does hurt a bit, Anna, you truly care for me. In that case, Anna's mommy, Ms. Davis, please."
Amelia looked at Frederick, who for the first time addressed her as "Anna's mommy," stirring up a different feeling within her.
Frederick remained composed. His deep blue eyes were not meeting Amelia's gaze but fixed on Anna, his gentle gaze almost overflowing with tenderness.
At this moment, Anna tilted her head back to look at Amelia.
"Mommy," Anna called out.
This time, there was a hint of coquettishness in her tone. Anna's round eyes gazed at Amelia, momentarily causing Amelia to feel guilty if she refused her.
