Chapter 442 I'm Determined to Have Him

Layla's smile faded away. She frowned and eyed Amelia suspiciously. She always thought Amelia was easy to manipulate, but now Amelia was showing some serious backbone.

Layla took a deep breath, about to say something else when a round of applause broke the tension.

Amelia glanced at Layla's car. A woman in a light-colored suit dress stepped out.

The woman had a face that looked a bit like Shirley's and Layla's.

Amelia didn't know much about Shirley or Layla, but from the looks of it, she guessed this woman was probably another one of Layla's daughters.

Nancy got out of the car, clapping. She had a smirk on her face and gave Amelia a mocking look.

Nancy chuckled, "I thought you were as naive as Shirley, but it seems you're a bit sharper."

Layla's smile came back when she saw Nancy.

She said softly, "Nancy, don't talk about your sister like that. Amelia is a year older than you."

Layla's words sounded like a scolding, but her face showed no sign of it. In fact, she looked kind of proud.

Layla turned to Amelia with a smile, "Amelia, meet your sister Nancy. We're staying in Kasfee for a while, so you'll see each other more often. I've always hoped you two could get along. Having more family is having more strength, Amelia. Let bygones be bygones, you..."

Before Layla could finish, Amelia cut her off coldly. "My only sister is Rachel. Nancy's last name is Wright, and mine is Davis. We're not sisters."

Layla's face stiffened, looking a bit annoyed. She said, "Amelia, how can you say that? Nancy and Rachel are both very capable. You might need Nancy's help someday..."

Amelia interrupted again, not caring about Layla and Nancy's reactions. "Ms. Murphy, you disgust me."

Layla's face froze. Nancy, however, stayed calm. She looked Amelia up and down and said softly, "Mr. Hastings has been under investigation for a while now. He must be having a tough time. Ms. Davis, haven't you thought of a way to help him out?"

Amelia frowned.

Nancy crossed her arms, a smug smile on her face, looking at Amelia with disdain. "If I were you, I would've already found a way to get Mr. Hastings out. A man like him needs a capable woman by his side. Otherwise, when trouble comes, there won't be anyone to save him," she mocked.

Nancy's words hit Amelia where it hurt.

Amelia had been stressed out about Frederick's situation, even hating herself for not being able to find a way to help him.

Seeing the change in Amelia's expression, Nancy's smile grew. She said meaningfully, "I did some research on Mr. Hastings when I got back. I find him quite interesting."

Amelia's face hardened, and she shot a cold look at Nancy. "Ms. Wright, are you suggesting I just hand Frederick over to you?"

Nancy laughed, her tone dripping with disdain. "You kidding? If I want a man, I'll go after him myself. I don't need you to give him to me. Besides, if you did, it wouldn't be much of a victory, would it? I'm just letting you know I'm very interested in Mr. Hastings, and I'm determined to have him. So, Ms. Davis, brace yourself. If he ever leaves you, don't cry about it. You're no match for me."

Amelia's eyes turned icy. "Frederick won't like you."

Nancy chuckled like she'd heard the funniest joke. "Like? I don't need him to like me. As long as I can offer him more than you can, he'll choose me. Ms. Davis, with such a capable sister, how can you not get that?"

Amelia's face grew colder.

Nancy didn't bother arguing further. She gave Amelia a dismissive glance and turned to get back in the car.

As she was leaving, she looked at Layla and said lightly, "Mom, let's go home. Ms. Davis doesn't seem to want to acknowledge you. You just want Mr. Hastings as a son-in-law, right? I'll get him for you."

Layla smiled helplessly at Nancy's words and said softly, "I was worried you weren't interested in Mr. Hastings before. If you'd said so earlier, I wouldn't have come today."

Layla then walked toward Nancy, not forgetting to glance at Amelia. She seemed to see Amelia being abandoned by Frederick and shook her head gently, saying earnestly, "Amelia, you're too stubborn. Nancy is very capable. If you hadn't offended her today, she might have..."

Amelia sneered and cut her off, "I believe in Frederick's feelings for me. Stop trying to drive a wedge between us."

Layla sighed lightly and then bent down to get in the car.

After the car door closed, Nancy suddenly stuck her head out of the window, looked at Amelia, and said with a smile, "Our family has some dealings with the Kingsley Group. And Ms. Davis and Dylan are good friends, am I right?"

Amelia's expression immediately turned wary when Nancy mentioned Dylan.

Seeing her guarded look, Nancy chuckled softly. "I happened to see something at the Kingsley Group the day Dylan jumped. Since you can't get Frederick out, I'll start showing my abilities."

Nancy smiled at Amelia and then pulled her head back in.

Amelia stood there, watching Layla's car leave the Davis Manor, her face heavy. She had never felt any pressure when facing Amber before.

But now, facing Nancy, Amelia felt an unprecedented weight.

It wasn't that she didn't believe in Frederick's feelings for her. She was just doubting whether her abilities were enough to match Frederick's.

Nancy sat in the back seat, glancing back to see Amelia still standing there. A faint smile appeared on her lips as she remarked softly, "I thought she'd be a formidable opponent, but she's not even worth mentioning. I wonder what Mr. Hastings sees in her."
