Chapter 313 A Strawberry-Flavored Kiss
Amelia glanced at Frederick. His blue eyes were mesmerizing, like the stars and the sea.
Just as she was about to speak, Frederick's phone rang.
He frowned, swiped to reject the call, and turned to Amelia. "What were you going to say?"
Amelia had noticed the caller ID: "Rue Jelena."
She pressed her lips together and said calmly, "Nothing. I'll take you back."
She started the car and drove out of Davis Manor, heading back.
Rue called two more times on the way, but Frederick ignored them.
He put his phone on silent and tried to start a conversation with Amelia.
Before he could speak, Amelia said, "Ms. Jelena called a lot. Why didn't you answer?"
Frederick replied, "If it were urgent, she wouldn't call me."
Amelia took a deep breath, glanced at him, but stayed silent, focusing on driving.
Frederick noticed her questioning look and sat up straight. "I have nothing to do with her; don't misunderstand."
Amelia stayed quiet. She remembered rumors about Frederick marrying Rue Jelena and had even heard Rue call him "darling."
How could that be nothing?
But since she and Rue weren't in the same social circle, Amelia hadn't seen her since the last banquet. Plus, she'd been in Tideport City recently, so their paths hadn't crossed.
Amelia nodded lightly, saying nothing more.
Frederick watched her expression. She looked calm, emotionless.
A sense of unease grew in him. He looked at her and said, "She's not my fiancée."
Those rumors weren't true, but he had let them spread to see Amelia's reaction. They had been married for three years, and he wanted to see if she'd react to him getting engaged.
After all, when he saw her with Daniel in Fondaniss, he had felt miserable.
But Amelia hadn't reacted at all, not even asking anyone about him. Even Rachel hadn't inquired about his relationship with Rue.
Listening to Frederick, Amelia's coldness eased a bit, and her tense mood relaxed.
As they passed a dessert shop, Amelia pulled over.
Frederick's heart tightened, thinking she was going to kick him out.
"Amelia," he started softly, but she looked out the window and said, "Frederick, go buy me some strawberry pastries."
Frederick's eyes lit up. "Wait for me."
He quickly got out and headed to the dessert shop.
Amelia watched him in his black suit amidst the pink decor and couldn't help but smile.
Frederick soon returned with the desserts. Before even getting in the car, he handed them to Amelia.
She took them and thanked him softly.
Frederick smiled as he got in and sat in the passenger seat. Seeing Amelia already enjoying a strawberry pastry, his eyes softened.
Last time in Tideport City, when she had rejected his dessert offering, he had been troubled and sleepless all night.
Amelia took a bite and noticed Frederick staring. "Want some?"
She offered him the box with four pieces left.
Instead of taking one, Frederick leaned in and took a bite of the pastry she was holding.
Amelia paused, her heart racing.
Frederick, satisfied, leaned back. "It's sweet and soft, just like you," he said in a low, husky voice.
Amelia's ears turned red. She bit her lip and then brought the remaining piece to Frederick's lips.
Frederick happily accepted and bit into the pastry, lightly nipping her finger.
Amelia felt a strange, electric sensation and quickly pulled her hand back.
Frederick chuckled. "Sorry," he said, clearly pleased.
Amelia wiped her finger with a tissue, then, seeing his smug smile, grabbed his hand and bit it in retaliation.
Frederick was surprised but then smiled. "Amelia, you're so cute."
He had never noticed this playful side of her before.
Amelia glared at him, then started the car and drove him back to Spring Villa.
After she parked the car, Frederick reached for the door, hesitating. A trace of uncertainty flashed in his eyes.
Amelia remembered he was getting his stitches removed tomorrow and turned to remind him not to get his wound wet tonight.
Just as she turned, Frederick suddenly grabbed her head, leaned in, and kissed her.
Amelia's eyes widened in surprise.
Frederick covered her eyes with his hand and deepened the kiss.
