Chapter 493 The Only One Who Suffered Was Nancy

Nancy had done her homework and knew Frederick was a neat freak who didn't like people getting too close.

So, when she approached him, she kept a close eye on his reaction.

Frederick was already struggling to keep it together. He couldn't shake the images of Anna crying yesterday and Amelia's hesitant look when she left.

He took a deep breath, fighting the urge to push Nancy away.

However, he subtly shifted to the side, creating a small distance between them.

Nancy felt a pang of disappointment but quickly brushed it off. After all, they'd had physical contact before, and this time, Frederick didn't immediately bolt.

It was clear he was slowly warming up to her; he just wasn't used to it yet.

"Mr. Hastings, I came today to ask you to look over my investment report," Nancy said, handing him the file.

Frederick didn't take it right away. He just stared at the folder, his eyes serious. "Ms. Wright, do you always trust your business partners so much?" he asked.

Nancy was caught off guard by his question. She bit her lip and replied softly, "Of course not. Out of all my partners, I've only shared my quotes and reports with you, Mr. Hastings."

Her words were intentionally vague, and she watched Frederick's expression shift.

Sure enough, he reached out and took the report from her.

Nancy's lips curled into a slight smile.

Once Frederick opened the folder, he zeroed in on the documents.

Nancy had intentionally included a few problematic items.

As expected, Frederick quickly spotted two of them. "Ms. Wright, I heard you're really into automotive research." he asked calmly.

Nancy leaned closer, glancing at the file. She smiled and said, "Yes. The head of this company reached out, hoping I'd invest, and explained their current projects. I found their proposal innovative, so I decided to invest."

As she spoke, she looked up at Frederick, her eyes warm and smiling.

Frederick looked down at her, hiding his distaste, and said seriously, "This project isn't suitable for you to invest in right now. You should think it over carefully, Ms. Wright."

Nancy nodded at his suggestion. After a few seconds of silence, she asked, "Mr. Hastings, how much do you think I should invest in more reliable projects?"

She smiled, waiting for his answer.

But Frederick closed the report and said seriously, "Ms. Wright, how much effort and money you invest in a project depends on your confidence in its returns. This needs to be based on your situation. I can't give you specific advice; you should always be cautious with any investment."

Nancy took the folder back, her smile deepening. "Thank you, Mr. Hastings, for the reminder. I'll think it over carefully."

Just as Nancy finished talking, the receptionist came in with coffee. She placed it in front of Nancy and said softly, "Ms. Wright, your coffee."

Nancy nodded, took a sip, and then turned to Frederick. "Mr. Hastings, how about we grab lunch together today?"

Frederick's face showed a bit of hesitation. He shook his head, "I have to inspect a branch office today, maybe another time."

Nancy noticed the disappointment in his eyes and smiled. "That's really too bad."

Frederick nodded.

Seeing that Frederick wasn't in a hurry to get back to work, Nancy felt secretly pleased, thinking he still wanted to chat.

So she switched topics and started talking about her views on project investments.

Frederick listened quietly, occasionally sharing his thoughts but deliberately avoiding giving any direct advice.

He knew Nancy was naturally suspicious, and being too eager would only make her more wary.

Nancy stayed with Frederick for about half an hour before leaving. She called Layla, "Increase the investment by forty percent on the original basis."

Layla quickly responded, "Nancy, why not bump it up to sixty percent?"

Nancy refused outright. "No. I have other plans for the remaining forty percent."

Layla was silent for a moment, then asked, "Do you have any good ideas?"

Nancy didn't share her thoughts and said briefly, "Just follow my lead."

She had been keeping tabs on Rachel, knowing that Rachel had started cozying up to Sebastian again to navigate through tough times.

Rachel wasn't just eyeing the West Suburb Project; she had her sights set on another one too.

Nancy also discovered that Rachel intended to make that project her big move, so Nancy decided to steal her project and see how she would handle it.

Nancy's lips curled into a cold smile as she got into her car.

Meanwhile, Frederick stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, coldly watching Nancy's car drive away.

His phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw a message from Delbert Olson.

Delbert: [Thank you, Mr. Hastings, for helping the Olson Family through this tough time.]

As soon as Frederick saw the message, he knew Delbert had received the funds transferred from Nancy.

Nancy's insight was sharp. This project was a good one in the long run, with huge initial investments and no short-term profits.

Nancy and Layla planned to start making profits within two years.

However, neither Nancy nor Layla had expected that the Olson Family had internal financial issues and urgently needed funds.

Nancy's investment completely bailed out the Olson Family, allowing them to turn things around, which would significantly slow down the progress of the West Suburb Project.

Moreover, this project couldn't be withdrawn from within two years. Even if Nancy and Layla realized something was wrong later, they couldn't pull out their investment and would have to choose to transfer their shares.

Then, Rachel's newly registered company could buy them at a low price. It would not only address the urgent needs of the Olson Family but also provide significant advantages to Rachel, with Nancy bearing the losses.
