Chapter 50 Supporting His Girlfriend

She looked frail, her face a picture of astonishment as she watched Frederick, seemingly on the verge of collapse.

Frederick passed by her without expression.

Amber reached out and grabbed Frederick's arm.

"Frederick, do I really have no chance left?"

Frederick's eyes were cool as he regarded her. "It was you who initiated the breakup, saying I couldn't support your dreams."

"Now you ask me if you still have a chance, implying that I can now support your dreams again?"

"What is your dream?"

Amber's face turned even paler as she shook her head in denial. "Frederick, no, those words were against my true feelings. I've never forgotten you in these past three years."

"I've been striving to improve myself, to be worthy of you."

Frederick looked at her, unsparingly stripping away her façade.

"Your dream is to marry into a wealthy family and become a society wife, right?"

Amber trembled violently, steadying herself on the railing.

"Frederick, how can you think of me like that?"

Frederick's eyes remained cold as he removed her hand from his arm and walked away.

Amber stood still, her eyes following his retreating figure, a nameless panic, and fear swirling in her mind.

After arriving at the hospital, Amelia got out of her car as if everything she had seen had nothing to do with her.

She went into the changing room, put on her scrubs, and headed toward the office, spotting the suited figure of Felix from a distance.

"Mrs. Hastings..."

He greeted Amelia very politely.

Amelia nodded slightly and took the document bag from Felix's hand.

"Did he sign?"

Felix nodded, "Yes."

Amelia looked satisfied, "Good, thank you for your trouble."

After taking the document bag, she went into her office.
Felix looked at her delicate and pretty face, which bore no trace of reluctance, and thought back to the frustration on Frederick's face when he had signed the divorce papers the previous evening. He couldn't help but feel that these two were truly enigmatic in their thoughts.

Just a month ago, Frederick had refused to consider divorce, and now his attitude had undergone a startling transformation. And the one who had initially insisted on divorce no longer seemed so eager to split.

With a sigh, Felix turned and walked away.

Amelia had no surgeries scheduled during that period, and she had almost finished handing over her patients. She was assigned to the outpatient clinic. After storing the divorce agreement in her locker, Amelia headed straight to the clinic's office.

After seeing a few patients, she clicked on the next patient's name and saw "Amber Roberts" appear on the screen. Her brow furrowed slightly.

Soon after, Amber walked in. She was pale, exuding a sickly and fragile air. Amelia took a deep breath to steady her emotions and adopted a professional demeanor as she faced Amber.

"What seems to be the problem today?" Amelia asked.

Amber took the seat across from Amelia, biting her lip tightly and looking rather pitiable.

"Ms. Davis, could you arrange a meeting with Frederick's wife for me?" Amber pleaded.

Amelia frowned. "Ms. Roberts, if you're not here for a medical consultation, please don't disrupt my work. There are many other patients waiting," she said firmly.

Amber's eyes reddened immediately at the refusal. "Ms. Davis, please have some pity and arrange a meeting with Frederick's wife for me," Amber implored. "I have a lot I need to say to her."

Amelia's expression remained cold as she took out her phone from the drawer.

Thinking Amelia was about to help her, a look of gratitude flashed across Amber's eyes. Lately, she had been trying hard to find out the identity of Frederick's wife but realized she had little access to information. She recognized the gap between herself and that social circle.

"Thank you, Ms. Davis," Amber said, mistaking Amelia's actions.

Amelia responded indifferently, "Don't thank me. I'll have Mrs. Brittany arrange it for you."

She pretended to dial Brittany's number. Amber's face changed dramatically, and she immediately grabbed Amelia's hand.

Brittany's voice soon came from the phone. "Amelia."

Amber shook her head nervously, using lip reading to plead, "Please don't, I beg you."

Amelia shook off Amber's hand, maintaining control of her tone as she managed the situation.
Mrs. Brittany, "Oh, no worries, I just dialed your number by mistake."

"I'm at work right now. I'll come and see you after I finish."

Brittany had no doubts regarding Amelia's words and reminded her not to work too hard before ending the call.

Amber's complexion became even paler and more rigid.

Amelia withdrew her gaze and glanced towards the door.

"Ms. Roberts, if you have nothing else, please don't interrupt my work."

With gritted teeth and reluctance, Amber stiffly rose from her seat and left.

At the door, she paused, turning her head to look at Amelia.

Amelia's eyes were fixed on the computer screen. Amber's presence had brought a touch of coldness to her expression.

Suddenly, she felt that Amelia bore a striking resemblance to Frederick's "wife."

Considering Amelia's consistently aloof attitude towards her, as well as the subtle hostility she seemed to harbor towards Frederick, Amber was enveloped in a bold assumption.

She left in a hurry, convinced that Frederick's "wife" must be related to Amelia, seeing how similar their features were.

After finishing her clinic duties, Amelia returned to her department in the afternoon.

She went to the lounge, grabbed a cup of water, and on her way out, she bumped into Frederick, who was coming out of the elevator.

Her brow instantly furrowed.

Perhaps Amber had been frightened by her this morning and had run straight to Frederick to complain.

She took a deep breath, a gut feeling telling her that Frederick was here to give her trouble on behalf of his girlfriend.

"Mr. Hastings is really eager to defend his girlfriend, isn't he? Rushing over here to stand up for her?"

Frederick glanced at her with a semblance of mockery and disdain in his eyes.

He had no intention of engaging with her.

Amelia was taken aback by his reaction.

Moments later, Felix came jogging out of the elevator, holding a gift box.

"Mr. Hastings."

Frederick took the gift box from his hands and, with a stern face, proceeded towards the VIP ward, clearly on his way to visit a patient.

Upon seeing Amelia standing not far away, Felix greeted her.

Since Amelia and Frederick had already signed a divorce agreement, Felix changed the way he addressed her.

"Ms. Davis."

Amelia, watching Frederick stride into the ward, felt a jolt of stiffness in her face.

"Are you here to visit a patient?"

Felix nodded cordially in response.

"A friend of Mr. Hastings is hospitalized, so he came to check on them."
Amelia was momentarily stunned. She hadn't taken on much work recently and was unaware of the situation. He never intended to come looking for her, and Amber hadn't tattled to him either. Remembering Frederick's contemptuous look from earlier made her feel somewhat embarrassed. Perhaps she had been overthinking things.
