Chapter 347 Sneak Off to Kiss Again

Frederick's heart ached as he heard Amelia's calm voice.

He held her tighter, scared those memories might make her leave.

Amelia, struggling to breathe, said, "Let go."

Frederick refused. "No. What if you leave?"

Amelia looked at him helplessly and was about to speak when Frederick kissed her, silencing her.

They were in the yard at Hastings Manor, and a servant could walk by any second.

Amelia pushed him, but Frederick held on tighter.

Hearing footsteps, Amelia panicked and bit his lip hard.

Frederick gasped, tasting blood. Amelia pushed him away while he was distracted.

Tom walked out, steadying Frederick. "Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Hastings, dinner is ready."

Amelia replied, "Okay."

Tom noticed her flushed cheeks and smiled knowingly before heading back inside.

Amelia shot Frederick a look and followed Tom.

As she passed, Frederick grabbed her waist, pulling her close.

With Tom ahead, Amelia whispered, "Frederick, stop."

Seeing her anger, Frederick loosened his grip but still held her. "I'm not messing around. I just want to hold you."

Amelia removed his hand. "Didn't you hold me enough just now?" She was almost choked.

"I didn't hold you enough," Frederick said bluntly.

Amelia gave him an exasperated look and walked inside.

Frederick followed, teasing, "If you don't let me hold you now, you'll have to make it up to me tonight."

Amelia took a deep breath. "Frederick! Do you forget who's in charge here? It's me!"

Frederick paused, then lowered his stance. "So, Ms. Davis, when will you let me serve you?"

Amelia spat out through clenched teeth, "Get lost."

She quickly entered the dining room. Anna was seated, and Mary was wiping her fingers.

Anna looked up, noticing Frederick's swollen lip. "Mommy, did you and Uncle Frederick sneak off to kiss again?"

Brittany and the servants all smiled knowingly at Anna's question.

Amelia's face turned red. She pinched Frederick's waist.

Frederick winced but didn't move her hand. Instead, he gently massaged it.

Amelia quickly pulled her hand away.

Frederick chuckled, ruffled Anna's hair, and said, "Kissing your mom is the way I show love. I can kiss you too, Anna." He leaned in, but Anna blocked him with her hand, frowning.

"I don't want that. I'm about to eat," Anna said seriously. Since she was little, she only let Amelia and Rachel kiss her. Her grandfather Vincent had always taught her to protect herself, even from him.

So, Anna had a strong sense of self-protection. She liked Frederick but only let him touch her face, not kiss it.

Frederick felt a bit hurt by Anna's gentle rejection. He wasn't used to being turned down, especially by a little girl. He saw Amelia's smile and knew she noticed his hurt.

Amelia smiled and sat next to Anna.

Mary bent down to feed Anna, but Anna grabbed the fork, determined. "She can eat by herself," Amelia told Mary firmly but gently.

Mary let go of the fork, watching Anna use it skillfully. "Ms. Anna Davis is very independent," she said softly.

Amelia smiled, watching Anna. "She's independent when she wants to be, but she can be quite a handful when she's clingy."

Frederick, sitting on Anna's other side, said warmly, "It's okay for girls to be a little spoiled."

Amelia raised an eyebrow, feeling uneasy. If Anna stayed with Frederick, who knew how spoiled she'd become? She'd always been firm with Anna, ensuring she wasn't overly pampered.

Sensing Amelia's gaze, Frederick realized they had different views on raising children. He quickly added, "Of course, she still needs proper guidance."

Satisfied, Amelia nodded and began eating, trying not to overthink it.

The servants exchanged glances, surprised by Frederick's softness. They wondered if this gentle, doting Frederick was the same cold, unapproachable man they knew.

Brittany smiled, seeing Frederick's change. If he had realized his feelings for Amelia earlier, they wouldn't have been separated for three years, causing him such heartache that he developed a stomach ulcer.
