Chapter 432 Will You Come to the Airport to See Me Off?
Charles caught Rachel staring at him with those serious, slightly wary eyes. He let out a helpless laugh and took a step forward, making her look even more on edge.
"After leaving Ms. Davis's place, what innocence do I have left?" he chuckled. "Rumors are flying around that we're not just a couple, but we're about to get hitched."
Rachel frowned, remembering what the security guard had said earlier. "Are you sure you didn't start those rumors, Mr. Wright?"
Charles raised an eyebrow. "Wasn't me."
"Then why did the security guard downstairs congratulate me?" Rachel shot back, her eyes narrowing.
Charles shrugged and casually strolled into her bedroom. "I'm not a resident here. If I didn't find a way to get in, he probably wouldn't have let me."
Rachel watched him warily as he moved closer, her heartbeat picking up. The fact that Charles was shirtless and in her bedroom made her feel like prey being stalked by a wolf.
"Mr. Wright! You said you'd leave once Sebastian left. He's gone, so you can go now too," she snapped.
Charles stopped right in front of her, making her take a step back. He lifted her chin and leaned in close. "Ms. Davis, you're so heartless. You won't even let me stay for just one night?"
Rachel frowned deeper.
Charles chuckled softly at her furrowed brows. "Ms. Davis, are you scared now? You weren't like this when you brought me back here that night." His thumb brushed against her lips.
Rachel's face darkened. Was he going to bring up that night forever?
Seeing her cold demeanor, Charles smirked. "But I just happen to like your cold and aloof attitude."
He leaned in to kiss her, but she turned her head away.
He paused, then finally let her go and walked out of her bedroom.
Rachel watched him leave, trying to calm her racing heart. He didn't seem drunk, but she felt like she was the one getting intoxicated.
Charles went back to the guest room, changed into his clothes, and before leaving, stood at her bedroom door. "Ms. Davis, I'm leaving."
Rachel nodded slightly. "Goodbye."
Charles smiled. "Will you come to the airport to see me off tomorrow?"
A subtle emotion flickered in Rachel's eyes. She hesitated before replying, "I have other things to do tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to see you off, Mr. Wright."
Charles's smile had a hint of disappointment. "That's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, Ms. Davis."
Rachel's eyes dimmed slightly, unsure of what to say.
Charles didn't wait for her response. "Goodbye then."
Rachel nodded again. "Goodbye." She thought, 'Who knows when we'll meet again?'
Charles gave a faint smile and turned to leave.
Outside, the sound of the door opening and closing echoed, and then everything went back to its usual quiet.
Rachel stood by the window, her eyes a mix of confusion and complexity, but eventually, she calmed down.
The next day, before boarding, Charles looked back but didn't see any familiar faces.
Ian was scanning the crowd for Rachel and finally spotted Shirley at an entrance. He quickly told Charles, "Mr. Wright, it's Ms. Shirley Wright."
Charles saw Shirley running toward them. Not seeing anyone else behind her, he frowned.
Shirley ran up to Charles, smiling. "Charles, I'm here to see you off."
Charles asked with a poker face, "Did you come alone?"
Shirley shook her head. "Of course not. Ms. Davis is in the car."
Hearing this, Charles's lips curved slightly, and he walked toward the airport exit.
Rachel was sitting in the car reading a newspaper when the back door opened. She glanced over and saw Charles bending down to get into the car.
She was slightly stunned for a few seconds, quietly watching him. Just as she was about to speak, Charles pulled her into his arms.
Rachel was about to push him away, but Charles whispered, "Ms. Davis, just give me one minute."
Rachel's raised hand paused for a moment before dropping down.
After a minute, Charles let go of Rachel.
Rachel glanced at the time and said calmly, "Mr. Wright, your flight is about to take off."
Hearing this, Charles quickly leaned in and planted a kiss on Rachel's lips, then opened the car door and got out.
As he left, he turned to Rachel and smiled. "Ms. Davis, I'm happy you came to see me off."
Rachel moved her lips, about to explain that she wasn't there to see him off but was on her way to the branch office for business and happened to pass by the airport. Shirley wanted to see Charles off, so she drove the car over.
However, before Rachel could explain, Charles had already walked quickly into the airport, not giving her a chance to say more.
Rachel watched his back for a while. Suddenly, Sebastian appeared in her line of sight, standing next to a representative from Yaradia Enterprises, Derek, who had collaborated with Sebastian at the exchange meeting.
Sebastian had already seen Rachel's car and noticed Charles getting in and out of it quickly.
After Charles left, Sebastian glanced at Rachel sitting in the car, seeing her eyes fixed on Charles's back. His eyes darkened, and he quickly looked away, continuing his conversation with Derek.
After seeing Charles off, Shirley came out and, upon seeing Sebastian, immediately became defensive.
Shirley quickly got into the car and almost immediately started it, leaving the airport soon as if worried about any entanglement between Rachel and Sebastian.
After leaving the airport, Shirley breathed a sigh of relief and looked into the rearview mirror. "Ms. Davis, thank you for letting me see my brother off," she thanked with a grin.
Rachel put away the newspaper and looked out the window, saying calmly, "The meeting is about to start. You handled personal matters during work hours; write a self-criticism and submit it."
Shirley exclaimed, "What?" Seeing Rachel's calm, beautiful face, she resignedly drove the car. She wondered, 'When will my brother win Rachel's affection?'
