Chapter 116 A Slight Throat Flutter
Felix sighed and went to order food for Frederick.
The cafeteria manager, upon hearing that Frederick was dining, immediately had the chef carefully prepare a bowl of oatmeal and personally delivered it to Frederick.
Seeing that Amelia was sitting across from Frederick, the manager also brought a bowl of oatmeal for Amelia.
The cafeteria chairs were rectangular and could accommodate four people, with two seats on one side. After ordering his own food, Felix consciously carried his tray to another table.
Amelia and Frederick sat opposite each other, and Felix couldn't possibly sit next to Frederick, let alone sit next to Amelia. If he dared to sit next to Amelia, Frederick would definitely not let him off easily.
Amelia picked up the oatmeal the manager had brought and took a sip before lifting her head to look at Frederick, who was eating with his head down. She lightly spoke up.
"I wouldn't have known that the oatmeal here was so delicious if it hadn't been for your decision to eat here."
Frederick didn't look up and replied, "You're welcome."
Amelia raised an eyebrow, chuckled softly, and then put down her tray. "Anyway, I'm full. I'll be going now."
After finishing her meal, she got up.
It was at this moment that Frederick looked up and gazed at Amelia with a serious expression.
"Amelia, why did you come back?"
His voice was deep, and there were complex emotions hidden in his profound eyes as he looked at Amelia.
Upon hearing Frederick's words, Felix felt excited inside, feeling that Frederick had finally taken the first step. As long as they resolved the misunderstanding, everything would be fine.
Amelia looked silently at Frederick and spoke calmly. "Shouldn't I have come back?"
Frederick nodded expressionlessly. "Indeed, you shouldn't have come back."
She shouldn't have disrupted his peaceful life. He had already accepted the fact that she was with Daniel.
But she came back again.
Felix was completely dumbfounded and noticed the subtlety in Amelia's expression, so he immediately stood up from his chair. "Ms. Davis, that's not what Mr. Hastings meant."
Amelia smiled lightly and looked at Felix. "I really didn't hear anything else from his words."
Felix felt extremely embarrassed and didn't know how to explain for a moment.
Amelia didn't want to make it difficult for Felix. She withdrew her gaze and calmly glanced at Frederick.
"I grew up and lived in Kasfee since I was young. It was only natural that I'd be back."
After saying that, she left the cafeteria.
Frederick also put down his utensils and left.
Seeing this, Felix could only hurry to catch up. After getting in the car, he originally wanted to persuade Frederick, but when he looked up and saw Frederick, who had his eyes closed, he suddenly didn't know what to say.
Over the next few days, Frederick would go to the hospital early in the morning for intravenous therapy and leave after having lunch at the cafeteria.
The relationship between Amelia and Frederick also eased slightly.
They sat at the same table to eat, and other people assumed that Amelia and Frederick had reconciled.
After all, their past marital relationship at General Hospital was not a secret. Doctors who had worked at General Hospital for a long time were aware of their relationship.
Moreover, Amelia was also Brittany's god-granddaughter. There were rumors in the hospital that after Amelia's divorce from Frederick, she became the real boss of General Hospital.
"Did Rachel invite you to attend the anniversary celebration of Ascending Company?" Frederick suddenly asked, sitting across from Amelia.
Amelia was momentarily taken aback and had trouble responding.
During this time, although they sat at the same table for meals, they rarely communicated. Amelia had developed the habit of silently eating.
After hearing Frederick's voice, she took a moment to react and then calmly nodded in response, "She mentioned it. She said that this year's anniversary celebration of Ascending Company would be interesting."
Frederick looked at her and asked, "Are you going to attend?"
Amelia nodded.
Without further inquiry, Frederick's expression turned cold.
Two days before the Ascending Company celebration, Rachel took Amelia to the mall to pick out a dress. She had already tailored a dress for Anna but had not prepared one for Amelia.
Amelia rarely wore dresses, and Rachel had no idea what style she liked, so she decided to directly take Amelia to the brand's showroom to choose the design.
With two days remaining until the ceremony, they had plenty of time for preparations. Once Amelia found a suitable style, Rachel would commission the designer to customize it. The chief designer of this dress brand was a longtime friend of Rachel's, and she had designed Anna's dress.
When Amelia and Rachel arrived, the designer was busy attending to other clients.
Amelia and Rachel casually looked around the showroom.
Rachel insisted that the salesperson take out a backless dress for Amelia to try on. Amelia could only reluctantly try it on.
The red dress had a V-neck design, with the entire back exposed and a white pearl as a decoration in the middle.
After Amelia put on the dress, the salesperson pulled back the curtain.
She looked at herself in the mirror and faintly saw her skin exposed at the chest.
She rarely wore such revealing styles, so she covered her chest with her hand and hesitated to turn around.
After a while, a coquettish voice came from the floor above, "Frederick, which outfit do you think suits me?"
As Amelia listened to this voice, she felt a sense of familiarity. She seemed to have heard it somewhere, but for a moment, she couldn't recall where.
"They all suit you."
A cool male voice came through, and Amelia realized that it was the same voice she had heard on Frederick's phone in the elevator.
Amelia paused.
Rachel also heard Frederick's voice and looked up to see him being embraced by an outgoing girl.
This girl had a completely different style compared to Amelia and Amber.
Rachel raised an eyebrow, glanced at Frederick, and then said to Amelia, "Amelia, turn around so I can see."
Frederick heard Rachel's voice, stopped in his tracks, and looked at Amelia standing in front of the mirror.
Amelia had adjusted her emotions and smiled gracefully, her hand lightly resting on her chest. She turned around gently to face Rachel.
"How does it look?"
Amelia's skin had a healthy color, and the dress she was wearing made her look even more sexy. The pearls embellishing the back added a touch of charm.
Rachel casually turned her head and saw Frederick and his companion. She smiled and said, "Mr. Hastings, what a coincidence. Can you give me your opinion on whether this dress suits Amelia?"
Frederick's jawline tightened, and he stared intently at Amelia.
His gaze at this moment was much more direct, as if he was seriously examining the dress on Amelia. Although Amelia's hands were still in the position on her chest, he caught a glimpse of her cleavage. His face turned serious, and his Adam's apple rolled slightly as he replied to Rachel in a low and hoarse voice.
"It doesn't suit her."
