Chapter 275 Wreck His Car

Her voice was steady, and her face didn't change a bit when she spoke.

Frederick couldn't see any hint of hatred in her eyes. But it was this lack of resentment that made him feel like he was falling into an ice pit.

"Amelia," he called out, his voice rough as if something was stuck in his throat.

"It's late, Mr. Hastings. You should go home and rest," Amelia said, closing the living room door behind her.

Frederick stood there, staring at the closed door, feeling suffocated. He tugged at his tie to ease the pressure, but it didn't help.

Sebastian saw Frederick's car pull up to the Davis Manor entrance and got out of his own car. He had been waiting there for a long time, hoping Rachel would see him, but the security at the Davis Manor didn't dare let him in.

He walked over and leaned against Frederick's car door, a cigarette dangling from his mouth. He was about to light it when he saw Frederick coming out. Frederick's tie was a bit crooked, and he looked defeated.

Sebastian paused, and after a few seconds of silence, said, "Got kicked out?"

Frederick didn't answer.

Sebastian put away the lighter and asked, "Should I give you your spot back?"

His car was parked where Frederick usually parked. After waiting in the car for hours, Sebastian finally understood Frederick's previous feelings—it was torture.

Frederick glanced at him, noticing his messy hair, stained shirt, and lack of his usual gentlemanly image. It seemed Rachel had given him a hard time too.

In the past, he might have teased him, but now, Frederick had no heart for it. He walked around the car to the driver's side, opened the door, and said coolly, "No, she told me to go home and rest."

Sebastian was silent.

Frederick slid into the driver's seat, firing up the engine.

Beside the car, Sebastian bowed his head and sparked his cigarette, convinced Frederick was about to leave, but the passenger window behind him rolled down.

Sebastian, cigarette dangling from his lips, leaned in. "You gonna keep me company?"

Frederick's eyes were deep. He advised, "You should go home too. Staying here is useless."

Sebastian glanced at the second-floor balcony of the Davis Manor. Rachel, who had been standing there, had already gone inside, and the light in her room was off.

Sebastian took a deep drag on his cigarette, showing no intention of leaving.

Frederick withdrew his gaze and didn't continue to persuade him. He was also trapped in this situation and couldn't offer any comforting words. He took a deep breath, stepped on the gas, and drove away.

Sebastian stood at the entrance of the Davis Manor for a long time before returning to his car, but he didn't drive away.

The next morning, Amelia, after getting ready, came out of her room holding Anna. Just as she was about to go downstairs, Rachel's door opened.

Amelia stopped and looked over.

Rachel came out, her face adorned with delicate makeup. She was wearing a black business suit. Although her forehead was wrapped in bandages, it didn't diminish her aura at all.

"Are you going to the office?" Amelia asked.

Rachel nodded and replied, "Yes." Her voice was a bit hoarse, as she hadn't rested well the entire night.

Amelia frowned, "You should rest for a couple more days. You're still injured."

"I'm fine. I took some medicine yesterday and feel much better," Rachel said, walking over to Amelia and reaching out to pinch Anna's cheek.

Anna immediately stretched her arms toward Rachel. "Aunt Rachel, hug."

Rachel was about to take her, but Anna pulled her hands back, refusing to be held.

"What's wrong?" Rachel raised an eyebrow. Was Anna teasing her?

Anna's eyes were fixed on the bandage on Rachel's forehead. She said softly, "Auntie is hurt. Can't hold me."

Rachel's lips curved slightly, and she pinched Anna's cheek again. She sighed, "Anna is so smart. When you grow up, I'll hand over the Davis Group to you, and Aunt Rachel will be at ease."

Amelia's brow twitched. She had a feeling that Rachel would start teaching her how to manage the company as soon as Anna could read.

"Breakfast is ready," Vincent called from downstairs, hearing Rachel and Amelia's voices.

"Coming," Amelia responded and then carried Anna downstairs.

Rachel followed behind, glancing at her watch.

Rachel entered the dining room, picked up the milk on the table, drank it in a few gulps, and put the cup down. "I have a morning meeting at the office. I'm running late."

Vincent frowned, seeing Rachel about to leave the dining room, and called out to her. "Rachel."

Rachel stopped and looked at Vincent. "What's up?"

Vincent took out a handful of candy from the side and placed it on the table. He advised, "Take these after you take your medicine."

Rachel had never liked taking medicine since she was a child and couldn't stand even a bit of bitterness.

Rachel looked at the candy on the table, a glimmer of light flashing in her cold eyes. She took two pieces.

"Did you buy these just for me?" she asked.

Vincent nodded. "Yes."

Rachel's lips curved slightly, her gloomy mood lifting a bit. "Thank you, Dad. I'm off to the office."

She held back the tears that threatened to fall and turned to leave.

Vincent watched Rachel's back and sighed lightly.

Amelia also found it off. Rachel's flawless makeup couldn't hide the telltale signs to Amelia, who could read the situation instantly. It was clear Rachel hadn't slept a wink.

Rachel's makeup was too perfect, and she could tell at a glance what was going on.

Rachel probably hadn't slept all night.

When Rachel came out of the house, she glanced at the Davis Manor gate.

Sebastian's car was parked at the entrance.

Seeing her come out, Sebastian quickly got out of his car.

"Rachel." He called out her name.

Rachel gave him a cold look, then turned away and walked into the garage. She first opened the door of a black sedan she often drove, then seemed to remember something and closed the door.

She strode purposefully to the back of the garage, swinging open the door of an armored SUV without hesitation. With a swift step onto the running board, she hopped in, fired up the engine, and rolled out.

Surprise flickered across the faces of the security as Rachel opted for that car, leading them to swiftly unlock the gate.

Sebastian's eyes widened in disbelief as Rachel maneuvered the fortified vehicle out of the garage. He had strategically positioned his car at the manor’s entrance, intending to intercept Rachel for a conversation. To his astonishment, Rachel chose the armored SUV, known for its ruggedness in collisions.

"Rachel, we need to talk," Sebastian insisted, unable to fathom Rachel's seemingly callous actions as he attempted to approach her.

The manor's security team, sensing trouble brewing, promptly intervened, restraining Sebastian. "Mr. Kingsley, please. Ms. Davis is upset right now."

Without a backward glance or pause, Rachel drove past Sebastian, strategically wedging his car at the gate's entrance as she made her bold escape.

Sebastian wrenched free from the security's grasp, staring numbly at the sight of his now-wrecked vehicle.
