Chapter 235 She Was Testing Her Relationship with Frederick
Yesterday, after Frederick entered the inner hall, he plopped down next to Amelia, displaying a protective demeanor.
Patricia was somewhat wary of Frederick.
However, she didn't want to miss out on having Amelia as her ideal daughter-in-law.
Patricia looked at Amelia with anticipation, her expression carrying a hint of speculation.
Amelia lightly pressed her lips together, understanding Patricia's curiosity at the moment.
Frederick had become quite famous in the country, so it was only natural for the Rodriguezs to want to curry favor with him.
Amelia thought seriously for a moment, then answered, "We know each other. Rachel has always collaborated with Mr. Hastings, so our families often interact."
Amelia answered very honestly.
Apart from their past marriage, she and Frederick could only be considered acquaintances, not close.
Patricia breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Amelia address Frederick in a formal manner.
She interpreted it as a sign that they hadn't had much private interaction.
Patricia smiled again, and she found Amelia more and more likable.
"Billy got off work early and came over. He's here to take us out for dinner. Ms. Davis, is there any particular seafood you like?"
As Patricia spoke, she led Amelia toward the elevator.
After walking a few steps, Patricia heard a shy, sweet voice.
"Mr. Rodriguez, can I get your contact information?"
Patricia looked in the direction of the voice and saw a girl asking Billy for his contact information.
Angela, acting as a matchmaker, chimed in, "Billy, Lisa really admires you. She's studying finance and will be an excellent financial journalist in the future. You might have work connections down the line."
Seeing this, Patricia immediately felt like she was facing a great enemy. She quickly let go of Amelia's hand and walked briskly towards Angela.
She first pulled Billy aside and then glared at Angela with disdain, cursing, "Angela, if you dare bring your messy friends around Billy again, I won't be polite! Don't think that just because you used underhanded means to get into the Rodriguez family, you can bring your influencer friends into it too."
Angela's face turned pale from Patricia's words, and she couldn't find a retort for a moment.
Lisa also looked uncomfortable, her body trembling slightly from the humiliation.
Billy adjusted his silver-framed glasses and said, "Mom, don't get worked up. I know how to deal with this. Not just anyone can get my contact information."
As he finished speaking, Lisa, who had asked for his contact information, trembled even more.
Patricia cast a cold glance at Angela and Lisa, snorted, and attempted to regain her composure.
She said coldly, "These people are parasites. Don't let them latch onto you, or you'll never shake them off."
After saying this, Patricia remembered that she had been too agitated and had neglected Amelia. She quickly turned around, but Amelia had already left.
Patricia's face changed, and she regretted her earlier outburst.
She saw a receptionist coming out of the elevator and asked in a low voice, "Have you seen Ms. Davis?"
The receptionist respectfully replied, "I just saw Ms. Davis resting in the reception hall downstairs."
Hearing this, Patricia quickly pulled Billy into the elevator and said, "Stay away from these influencers in the future, or Ms. Davis will get the wrong idea."
Billy nodded and agreed. "Okay."
Ever since Virgil had an affair with an actress and fathered Silas, Patricia had been plagued by deep distress.
Later, when Virgil brought Silas, the illegitimate child, into the Rodriguez family, Patricia's hatred for actresses and influencers grew even stronger.
She would never allow her daughter-in-law to work in such a profession or Billy to associate with influencers.
Thus, when she saw Angela trying to introduce her friend to Billy, Patricia immediately lost her temper. But Billy's response reassured her.
When the elevator reached the first floor, Patricia had calmed down as she walked out.
Amelia was seated on a sofa in the reception area, casually flipping through some beauty magazines on the table. She seemed composed and elegant. Billy couldn't help but steal a few more glances at her, a flicker of interest in his eyes.
Patricia regained her smile and walked towards Amelia. "Ms. Davis. I'm sorry for my outburst earlier and for keeping you waiting."
Hearing this, Amelia put down the magazine, stood up from the sofa, and smiled politely. "It's okay. I found this medical aesthetics magazine quite interesting."
Given the sudden situation earlier, Amelia felt that staying there would only make things more awkward, so she went downstairs.
Now that Patricia and Billy had come down, it was clear that the situation had been resolved.
Patricia, seeing how understanding Amelia was, smiled and walked over, not to mention the earlier incident. She said, "Let's go."
Amelia nodded. "Alright."
Billy went to the cashier to pay. As he took out his card, the cashier politely said, "Ms. Davis has already paid."
Billy glanced at Amelia, raised an eyebrow, and said, "You're a guest of the Rodriguez family. I couldn't let you pay. I'll transfer the money to you later."
Amelia smiled calmly and said, "Whether it's Patricia paying or me paying, it doesn't matter. If it weren't for her invitation, I wouldn't have known about such a good SPA place in Tideport City. Let's consider this my treat to her."
Patricia quickly took Amelia's hand and commented, "No. If I said I'd treat, I must treat."
While the two were politely arguing, Billy had already communicated with the cashier to refund Amelia's money and charge his instead.
After paying, Billy put his card away and smiled. "It's already taken care of. There's no need to argue."
Amelia received a refund notification on her phone. She looked up at Billy, who gave her a gentle smile.
Amelia could only smile back helplessly.
Patricia warmly took Amelia's hand and said softly, "I booked a seafood restaurant. Tideport City is rich in seafood. Ms. Davis, you must try it today."
Before Amelia could respond, her phone rang.
She glanced at it and saw that Felix was calling. Her expression turned serious, and she said to Patricia, "Excuse me, I need to take this call."
Felix rarely called unless there was an issue with Frederick's health.
