Chapter 488 Frederick Gets Beaten

Hearing that, Frederick couldn't help but pull Amelia closer.

He wrapped his arms around both Amelia and Anna, feeling a bit down.

"You've been way too calm lately," he muttered, his voice low, his deep blue eyes fixed on Amelia. "It's making me really uneasy."

Ever since Amelia told him in his office that he had failed the assessment, his mood had been in the dumps.

He kind of regretted teaming up with Rachel to hatch such an elaborate plan, even though it was the quickest way to secure Nancy's liquid assets.

Amelia listened quietly, her eyes flickering with emotions. She bit her lip lightly before meeting Frederick's gaze. "I have to be calm," she said softly. "I've been hiding behind my sister, living recklessly for so many years, but she's always been forced to choose a life she didn't want. If I keep letting her bear the burden, it's just too heartbreaking."

Frederick was taken aback for a moment and said in a low voice, "We did this to make sure you and Anna can live the way you want in the future. Amelia, don't feel too burdened. Perhaps this is the life Rachel wants."

Amelia took a deep breath and muttered, "I understand."

Rachel's standards for relationships were top-notch. But a few years ago, when the Davis Group was in trouble, she had to get back together with Sebastian based on the situation at the time.

Now, due to the current situation, Rachel had to interact with Sebastian again. After all, in the eyes of outsiders, the Davis Group was surrounded by enemies, and if Rachel refused Sebastian's proactive help at this time, Nancy would definitely have some concerns. By then, their plan's progress would hit a snag.

Brittany, after calming down, was pushed out of the room by Tom. Amelia heard the commotion and immediately pushed Frederick. Anna also joined in, pushing Frederick. Frederick resisted, reluctant to let go of Amelia. Amelia's cheeks flushed slightly as she shot Frederick a warning look.

Brittany observed the family scene, feeling a mix of gratitude and heartbreak, especially after seeing Anna cry earlier. She coughed lightly, then looked up at Tom and then at the study.

Sensing Brittany's presence, Amelia blushed, not used to being intimate with Frederick in front of elders. "Grandma is out. Aren't you going to greet her?" she whispered urgently to Frederick.

He hesitated but finally relented, letting go of Amelia and Anna.

"Grandma," he greeted, but Brittany ignored him, rolling towards the study in her electric wheelchair.

Tom then turned to Frederick, a subtle expression on his face. "Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Brittany Hastings would like to speak with you alone."

Frederick could clearly see the anger on Brittany's face just now.

After talking to Frederick, Tom turned and grabbed a long, thin stick from Brittany's room.

Frederick's brow twitched immediately. Amelia knew exactly what that stick meant.

When they got married, Frederick rarely returned to Spring Villa, so Brittany had to discipline him with that stick.

Seeing Tom with the stick, Amelia's worry deepened. Frederick noticed her concern and tried to reassure her, whispering with a soft chuckle, "Don't worry. Grandma's old now. She won't hit too hard."

Amelia looked up, her eyes meeting Frederick's. They were full of tenderness. To reassure her further, he kissed her cheek. Up close, she noticed a bruise on the corner of his mouth, likely from her father's intervention the day before.

Suppressing the flutter in her heart, Amelia said softly, "I'm just afraid Grandma might get too emotional and faint. She already needed oxygen after Anna cried earlier."

Frederick listened to Amelia's words, feeling a bit hurt, but still replied softly, "Don't worry, I won't make her unhappy."

He kissed Amelia softly and then turned into the study. Tom sensibly closed the door behind Frederick.

Amelia watched the closed door, her heart tight with worry. Anna, too, stared at the study door, her face showing anxiety. "Will Daddy be hit by Great-Grandma?" she asked.

Amelia nodded lightly. "Probably."

Anna immediately bit her lip tightly, her eyes even more nervous.

Half an hour passed, and there was still no sign of Frederick and Brittany coming out. Anna couldn't sit still anymore. She leaped off the couch and dashed towards the study.

Tom saw Anna running over and immediately reached out to stop her. He said softly, "Ms. Anna David, let's wait outside."

Anna looked up at Tom, her bright eyes blinking at him. Tom's heart softened a lot, and he withdrew his hand.

Anna pressed her ear to the door, but she couldn't hear anything. Anxiously, she patted the door.

Soon, the study door was opened from the inside. Frederick came out first.

Amelia immediately got up from the couch and looked towards the study.

Anna stood at the study door, looking up at Frederick. The red mark on his face was unmistakable, but words failed her.

Frederick saw Anna standing at the door, immediately bent down to pick her up, and said gently, "Didn't you say you didn't want me anymore? Why are you still worried about me getting hurt?"

Anna pouted, "I'm not angry anymore."
