Chapter 118 Who Will Frederick Invite?
Seeing Amelia return, Susan no longer had to be on guard against Frederick, so she went to the kitchen to help Vincent.
Amelia sat opposite Frederick while holding Anna.
As Amelia sat down, Anna suddenly kicked her legs and jumped down from her embrace. She took an orange from the table and reached out to Frederick.
"Uncle Frederick, can you peel this for me?"
Amelia raised an eyebrow as she noticed that Anna had only seen Frederick twice and already felt so familiar with him. She was about to take the orange from Anna's hand when Frederick readily agreed.
"Sure."
His tone was cheerful, unlike his coldness when talking to Amelia.
Amelia froze for a moment, feeling some subtle emotions in her eyes. She quietly watched Frederick peel the orange for Anna.
His fingers were slender, and the way he peeled the orange was captivating.
However, Amelia didn't know if this was his first time peeling an orange for a girl.
Frederick was patient. After peeling the orange, he even removed all the fibers on the surface. Once all the fibers were removed, he split the orange into segments and handed it to Anna.
The orange segments were big, and Anna's hands were small, making this scene particularly heartwarming and adorable.
After receiving the orange, Anna immediately ran back to Amelia's side.
Amelia reached out and embraced her in her arms, gently saying, "Don't you want to thank Uncle Frederick?"
Anna nodded obediently. "Thank you, Uncle Frederick."
She had already thanked him once before. Did she need to say it again?
Anna's eyes were full of curiosity.
Seeing this, Amelia softly and gently lectured her.
Frederick sat on the couch, listening to Amelia's gentle words to Anna, and he also felt touched.
Amelia really was a good mother. If only they had a child during the three years of their marriage.
Thinking this, Frederick suddenly felt a bit bitter. He restrained his emotions and concealed his inner discontent.
Anna understood Amelia's meaning and looked up at Frederick. "Thank you, Uncle Frederick."
Her voice was soft and sweet, and all of Frederick's previous frustration disappeared. He smiled and said, "You're welcome."
He smiled so tenderly that Amelia couldn't help but be amazed.
In the moment Frederick looked up and met her gaze, Amelia withdrew her eyes and looked down at Anna in her arms, smiling slightly.
Perhaps due to their blood relationship, Frederick got along well with Anna.
Amelia felt that this status quo was a good one.
Even if Frederick wasn't aware of how he and Anna were related, he would still love her.
In this world, there is no mother who doesn't want her own child to receive more love.
Vincent had prepared dinner, and as Susan was setting the table, Vincent came out to call them to eat.
Frederick didn't hesitate and got up from the couch when he heard Vincent's voice.
Anna promptly went to wash her hands.
After Frederick washed his hands, he gently helped to dry Anna's fingers.
Vincent noticed Frederick's actions and sighed softly, then looked at Amelia.
Amelia sensed Vincent's gaze and lightly pursed her lips, taking her seat.
During dinner, Frederick and Vincent discussed Vincent's video account.
Since Vincent returned from Fondaniss to Kasfee, he hadn't uploaded any videos. Many of Vincent's fans were urging him to update and asking if he encountered any problems.
Vincent expressed some of his own thoughts, and his conversation with Frederick was enjoyable.
After the meal, Amelia took Anna upstairs.
When Frederick left, Amelia was sitting on the balcony reading a book, while Anna was playing with her toys beside her.
Amelia saw Frederick cross the yard, leave Davis Manor, and get in the car to leave.
She unconsciously stared at the empty space he left behind. It wasn't until Vincent came upstairs and knocked on the door that Amelia snapped out of it and walked to the door.
"What is it?" she asked with a smile as she looked at Vincent, having adjusted her own mindset.
Looking at Amelia's calm demeanor, Vincent knew that she had never really let go of Frederick all these years. After all, when she was in Fondaniss, she clearly had better job opportunities, but she still chose to come back.
"How about..."
Vincent had just started speaking, but Amelia already understood what he wanted to say. She smiled gently and replied.
"He has a girlfriend now. Besides, it was his own idea for Anna to call him Uncle Frederick, not mine."
After hearing her words, Vincent paused and furrowed his brows slightly, remaining silent for a while.
Amelia smiled lightly, her expression no different from the past. "So many people care for Anna already, it's okay."
Vincent sighed, looking particularly heavy. "I'm worried that you'll regret it."
Amelia felt her nose tingle, but she quickly suppressed the urge to cry. She squeezed out a smile, hiding the tears in her eyes.
"I'm fine. I've already let him go."
She and Frederick were never meant to be.
Perhaps the best thing Amelia got from their three-year marriage was Anna. She was content.
Vincent didn't know how to comfort Amelia, so he just reached out and patted Amelia's shoulder. "Get some rest. You have a ball to attend tomorrow, you should stay in good shape."
Amelia nodded gently. Anna peeked her head out from between Amelia's legs.
"Can I wear the pretty dress tomorrow?"
Ever since Rachel returned Anna's dress to the Davis Manor, Anna had been staring at it almost every day, eagerly anticipating the ball. She even stopped watching cartoons and insisted on watching videos of dancing. She then tried to imitate the dance moves in the videos.
Vincent bent down and rubbed Anna's little head. "Yes, tomorrow you can wear it. How about I invite you to dance the first dance?"
Anna obediently nodded.
At night, Anna was still gesturing waltz movements on the bed.
The next morning, she woke up very early, eager to have Susan help her change into her dress.
Susan negotiated her for a long time before Anna finally agreed to only change into the dress after lunch.
Rachel and Frederick arrived at Ascending Company early in the morning, and by the afternoon, they had finished the meeting and the speeches.
Rachel did not invite any media today and changed the dinner format to a dance party.
On the night of the dance party, all employees and invited guests were required to wear suits and gowns. This measure prevented Anna from being exposed at the dance party.
Before the dance party started, Frederick gave a speech on stage, and Amelia led Anna into the venue.
When Frederick announced the start of the dance party, Rachel picked up the microphone and said, "Let Mr. Hastings bring us the first dance of the evening."
Upon hearing this, the crowd immediately applauded and cheered.
Frederick's gaze directly locked onto Amelia, and everyone followed his gaze and looked over.
When they saw Amelia, they all nodded knowingly.
