Chapter 429 Could Rachel Have a Slight Crush on Charles?
Ian shut the car door and gave Sebastian a nod. "Thanks, Mr. Kingsley."
Sebastian just waved it off and watched his assistant pull up with the car. He ducked in and got settled.
Ian hopped back into the driver’s seat and fired up the engine. From the back, Charles’s voice cut through the air, "To Ms. Davis's apartment." He sounded way more sober than he did earlier.
Ian glanced back, eyebrows raised. "Mr. Wright, you’re not drunk?"
Charles rubbed his temples, looking a bit pained. Yeah, he’d had a bit too much tonight. He’d hoped Rachel would bail him out, but Sebastian had been all over him.
Charles smirked, thinking about how Sebastian had been so paranoid, like he'd run off with Rachel.
"Yes," Charles said, cool as a cucumber.
Ian got the hint and zipped it. Clearly, Charles wasn’t hammered. He probably just wanted out of more drinks and played the drunk card. Ian, not in on the act, was impressed by Charles’s sly move. He couldn’t help but wonder who taught him that trick.
Meanwhile, in another ride, Frederick had Amelia snuggled up close when he suddenly felt a sneeze coming on.
Amelia shot him a serious look. "You catching a cold?" she asked, worried. They’d had quite a bit to drink earlier, and now they were out in the chilly night air.
Frederick’s stomach had just started to settle, and a cold would mess him up again.
Seeing her concern, Frederick pulled her closer. "Nah," he said, dropping a soft kiss on her cheek. "How about we hit up Spring Villa tonight?"
Amelia raised an eyebrow. "Anna might still be waiting for us at home."
Frederick’s face went through a few emotions before he sighed. "Going back to Davis Manor is cool too. But we might wake Anna."
Amelia’s cheeks turned red, and she shot him a glare.
Felix was still driving up front, and Frederick was already pushing it.
Frederick grinned at her blush and leaned in for a few more kisses. If the car had a divider, he’d probably be even bolder.
Amelia pushed him away, looking a bit ticked off.
Frederick finally got the message and backed off, but his hand on her waist was still wandering.
Amelia slapped his hand, and he finally moved it down a bit.
After a bit, Amelia said softly, "Let's stay at Spring Villa tonight, but we gotta be back at Davis Manor before Anna wakes up."
Frederick’s eyes lit up, and he nodded. "Even if it’s just for a couple of hours, it’s cool," he whispered, his voice low and playful. "We'll head back to Davis Manor right after."
His warm breath tickled her ear, making Amelia cover it with her hand. Frederick chuckled, gently pulling her hand away to blow on her ear again. Amelia slapped her hand over his mouth, glaring. "Keep it up, and we're heading back to Davis Manor."
Frederick straightened up, no more funny business.
Up front, Felix could feel the lovebirds' sweet tension. He wisely drove toward Spring Villa.
Rachel's car was a whole different vibe. She stared out the window, lost in thought, her eyes heavy.
Tina glanced at Rachel in the rearview mirror and asked softly, "Ms. Davis, apartment or Davis Manor?"
Rachel had been splitting her time between the two, so Tina had no clue what she wanted tonight.
Rachel hesitated, which was unusual. Normally, she'd answer right away. Tina figured something was up. "Ms. Davis?" she asked again.
Rachel rubbed her temples. "Apartment," she said quietly, but then changed her mind. "No, Davis Manor."
Tina nodded, sneaking another glance at Rachel. Something was definitely off, but she didn't dare ask and just headed to Davis Manor.
Halfway there, Rachel's phone rang.
She checked the caller ID—Charles. Her heart skipped a beat, and the phone suddenly felt hot in her hand.
After a moment, she answered. "Mr. Wright?"
Charles's voice, thick with drunkenness, came through. "Ms. Davis, I think I left something at your place."
Rachel frowned, silent for a bit, then said, "Mr. Wright, you already picked up your stuff last time."
Charles paused, then said, "Tie."
Rachel blinked, remembering that at dinner, after Charles helped her dodge drinks, she’d taken off his tie and put it in her bag.
When Rachel didn’t respond, Charles chuckled. "Ms. Davis, you wanna keep my tie as a souvenir?"
Rachel's face tightened, and she quickly said, "I'll bring it to you right away."
Charles replied, "Okay," then went silent.
Rachel waited for him to hang up, but he didn’t seem to want to.
She sighed, looked at Tina, and said softly, "Turn back to the apartment."
Tina quickly turned the car around.
At the apartment, Tina parked at the entrance.
Rachel got out and told Tina, "You head home. We’ve got an early start tomorrow."
Tina nodded, watching Rachel walk into the complex, her mind racing. 'Does Rachel have a thing for Charles?'
