Chapter 456 They Have So Much in Common
Ignoring Layla's anger, Tina kept her cool and gave a slight bow as she said goodbye. "Take care, Ms. Murphy."
Layla took a deep breath, glaring at Tina's polite smile. She sneered, "No wonder you're Rachel's lapdog, so loyal."
Tina stayed calm. "Do you think of all your employees as dogs, Ms. Murphy? Must be rough working for you, not even treated like humans."
The driver by the car felt a bit insulted by Tina's words. He glanced at the scattered gift boxes on the ground, unsure if he should pick them up.
Seeing Layla's face getting darker, the driver took a deep breath and finally decided to pick up the gift boxes.
Just as he reached out, Layla gritted her teeth, kicked the box out of her way, and got into the car. The driver's face stiffened a bit.
Tina softly said goodbye again. "Take care, Ms. Murphy."
Layla gritted her teeth, glared at her, and then looked away, not wanting to argue anymore.
"Drive," she coldly told her driver.
The driver glanced at the scattered gifts, closed the car door for Layla, and quickly got into the driver's seat, leaving the mess behind.
Tina stood there, watching Layla's car drive away, then turned and calmly told the security guys at the door, "Clean it up."
The security guys quickly nodded and started cleaning up.
Inside the house, Rachel sat on the sofa, glancing at Amelia. "Has she been coming over a lot lately?" she asked softly.
Amelia nodded slightly, walked over to the sofa next to Rachel, and calmly replied, "Yeah, she's been here a few times. Not sure what she's after."
Rachel's eyes grew colder. She was supposed to go from Fondaniss to Yaradia, but as soon as she arrived, she heard news from home. She rushed back after finding out Frederick and Nancy had been spending a lot of time together.
Kasfee was Rachel's base, and to stop Nancy from making moves there, she had to come back. She could only return to Yaradia once things in Kasfee were stable.
Layla's frequent visits to the Davis Manor were probably because she thought Rachel wasn't in Kasfee. She wanted to manipulate Vincent and Amelia, using family ties to keep their already weak bonds.
Amelia spoke up seriously, "Rachel, don't worry. I won't fall for Layla's tricks. I've felt a lot of love from you and Dad since I was young, and I've never lacked anything, so her words can't sway me."
Rachel's cold eyes softened a bit, and she asked gently, "You must've been through a lot lately, huh?" She had looked into Nancy and knew some of her tactics. Since Nancy had targeted Frederick, Amelia must have been affected.
Amelia hadn't felt particularly wronged, but now that Rachel mentioned it, her eyes started to redden. She bit her lip, quickly holding back her tears. "No," she mumbled.
Rachel raised her hand to smooth Amelia's hair and softly asked, "Do you still want him?"
Amelia was stunned by Rachel's question and then shook her head. "He was still in the testing phase, I didn't want him three years ago." Her expression showed a bit of sadness.
She thought, 'Betting again, and still losing. I gave up on Frederick three years ago, so why should he still affect my emotions now?'
Amelia took a deep breath and said seriously, "I don't want him anymore! Never again."
Her tone shifted from hesitation to determination. Rachel smiled helplessly. "Are you that sure? If he pursues you again, are you sure you won't go back to him?"
Amelia was stunned for a moment, then muttered, "I don't want him to affect my emotions anymore."
Rachel saw the lingering sadness in Amelia's eyes. "If you don't want him to affect you, then focus on affecting him," she suggested, her eyes sharp with determination. "Let's see what explanation Frederick will offer."
Rachel didn't believe Frederick could get entangled with Nancy in such a short time. Although she was in Yaradia, she was well aware of what was happening in Kasfee. During Frederick's detention, did Nancy just happen to have evidence?
Nancy, who grew up in Yaradia and had never been to Kasfee, had just arrived and immediately understood the issues between Frederick and Dylan and preserved the evidence.
Rachel didn't believe Nancy could control everything so quickly without someone advising her. There must be something fishy behind this.
Amelia nodded softly, lapsing into silence. Rachel glanced at her watch and rose from the sofa. "I need to rest before heading to the company."
"Okay," Amelia replied, watching Rachel ascend the stairs.
Halfway up, Rachel paused and turned. "Amelia, be strong. No matter the outcome, don't let a failed relationship break you."
Amelia was momentarily speechless, then nodded. "I understand."
Rachel smiled faintly. "Just making sure you do."
Amelia had always been sensitive, especially in her relationship with Frederick. She had always been insecure. Amelia and Dylan could become friends because they had so much in common. This similarity had nothing to do with gender.
Rachel was shocked when she heard about Dylan's suicide by jumping off a building in Yaradia.
When Amelia first arrived in Fondaniss, she sank into a similar depression. Without the hope of her unborn child, Amelia might have followed the same dark path.
