Chapter 55 Moving into the Davis’s House

Frederick finished his conversation with Laura and left her hospital room.

When Amber saw Frederick, her heart raced. "Frederick...." Her eyes instantly followed him.

He glanced at her briefly, then walked past her. Amber, in a rush to keep up, took a few steps before suddenly remembering her reason for being at the hospital. Reluctantly, she stopped and turned back toward Laura's room.

As Frederick walked past Amelia's office doorway, he slowed down.

He cast a sideways glance at the person inside. There she was, intently studying the files on her desk, her brow furrowed, her expression serious and focused.

Perhaps sensing someone watching, Amelia looked up just in time to see Frederick passing by her office.
He stared straight ahead and strode past without any pause.

Amelia thought for a moment, withdrew her gaze, and continued to examine the documents.

Amber only stayed in Laura's hospital room for a few minutes before she left.

She hurried out of the room and quickly exited the hospital.

Frederick's car had already left, and as Amber watched other vehicles take its place, her heart ached.

After work, Amelia went to Laura's hospital room and chatted with her for a good while until Patrick brought food for Laura from home. Only then did Amelia leave.

As she walked out of the hospital building, a familiar black sedan pulled up in front of her.

The window in the backseat rolled down.

Frederick's handsome profile appeared.

"Get in. Your dad wants us to come back for dinner."

Amelia hesitated for a moment, remembering that Vincent was unaware of her divorce from Frederick, and then she bent down and got into the car.

Although she sat next to Frederick in the backseat, there was still a significant gap between them. Enough space for another person to fit comfortably.

Frederick was silent throughout the journey, but she couldn't hold back and spoke first.

"I'll find time to talk to my father about us."

After she finished, Frederick didn't respond. She paused, glanced over, and saw Frederick leaning against the seat, eyes closed and looking quite tired.

Even if he was so exhausted that he could fall asleep in the car, he still looked elegant.

She just watched him quietly, in silence, for a long time.

When they arrived at the Davis Manor, Felix was the first to speak.

"Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Hastings, we've arrived."

That's when Frederick opened his eyes.

There were slight red veins in his eyes, clearly showing that he had been asleep.

Amelia looked away and opened the car door to step out.

Hearing a car enter the courtyard, Susan came out to greet them.

Seeing Amelia and Frederick getting out of the same car but maintaining a certain distance, Susan felt helpless.

"Mr. Hastings, Ms. Davis."

She politely greeted Frederick and then took Amelia's hand with a sigh.

"Mr. Davis had another episode of depression last night. He hardly slept at all. Today, after taking his medication, he slept for a while.

"Then, when he woke up, he started preparing dinner and called Mr. Hastings, asking you both to come back."

Hearing this, Amelia had planned to discuss her divorce with Frederick later with Vincent, but suddenly, she didn't dare to speak.

Feeling heavy-hearted, she couldn't help but look towards Frederick.
Frederick glanced at her, his calm gaze unchanging.

Amelia hesitated, then said, "Frederick..."

Before she could continue, Frederick coolly interrupted her.

"I know."

At his words, Amelia breathed a sigh of relief and whispered her thanks, "Thank you."

Frederick calmly replied, "You're welcome."

Susan looked at the two suddenly polite individuals, unsure of how to react.

Inside the house.

Vincent had already prepared the dishes.

Upon entering the house, Frederick took off his suit jacket and rolled up his shirt sleeves to help Vincent.

Vincent, reluctant to let him work, quickly tried to stop him.

"Frederick, you don't need to help. You and Amelia go sit and rest for a while."

"It's almost ready."

"Vincent, do you really think I can't handle this simple task?" Frederick, his expression serene, carried the dishes to the table.

Vincent no longer tried to stop him, his face bearing a smile.

The three of them had just taken their seats when Rachel hurried back.

During the meal, Rachel mentioned casually, "I'll move back in tomorrow."

"It's a good time since the company doesn't have much going on, and I can keep you company."

The Davis Group was going through a transition, and it was unlikely she could afford to be unoccupied.

Amelia immediately stood up.

"I should be the one to move back in."

As soon as she finished speaking, to her surprise, the usually quiet Frederick agreed with a nod.

"The Davis Manor is closer to General Hospital. It'll be convenient for Amelia to stay here."

Amelia paused for a moment, not fully understanding what Frederick meant.

Vincent naturally did not want to disrupt their work and tried to decline.

"Neither of you need to move back in. I'm doing fine, and you don't need to worry."

After all, Amelia was married. How could she stay at his place for an extended period?

He didn't want Rachel to have to shuttle back and forth between the company and the Davis Manor either.

Still, Amelia insisted on moving back in.

The number of people succumbing to suicide due to depression each year was far too high.

And with Vincent having just survived a crisis, Amelia felt uneasy about his well-being.

Seeing her insistence, Vincent's expression turned somewhat angry.

"Amelia, you're married now. Can't you stop being so willful like a child?

"Frederick is busy with work every day. It would be exhausting for him to commute between the Davis Manor, the company, and the Hastings Manor."
Frederick had never stayed overnight at the Davis Manor since marrying Amelia. Therefore, Vincent had not planned on offering Frederick accommodation at the estate.

"It's okay, I can also stay at the Davis Manor," he said in a calm tone, as though suggesting something completely ordinary.

Amelia and Vincent were both taken aback by his remark.

Rachel, on the other hand, seemed more composed. Her hand paused with a fork mid-air, then she smiled faintly, bowing her head to continue her meal.

Vincent, still somewhat incredulous, said, "Are you sure that's alright?"

Frederick appeared indifferent. "It's no trouble. I have to drive Amelia to the hospital every day anyway. It's on the way."

He spoke with an unchanged expression, turning his gaze to Amelia after finishing.

Before Amelia could respond, Vincent, elated, nodded in agreement and happily declared, "Then it's settled."

"Susan, please get Ms. Davis' room ready," he instructed.

Susan nodded and left the dining room to prepare Amelia's room at the mansion. That evening, Frederick had Felix move his personal items to the Davis Manor, seemingly planning for an extended stay.
