Chapter 416 Frederick Admires Charles's Shamelessness

Amelia's eyes flashed with confusion.

Frederick looked up and saw Amelia standing at the top of the stairs, so he gave her a reassuring glance, urging her to be at ease.

Seeing Frederick's gesture, Amelia composed herself and lightly pressing her lips together before picking Anna up and heading to the bedroom.

As soon as she settled Anna down under the comforter, she noticed Rachel emerging from the adjacent bedroom, a towel in hand as she dried her hair.

"Just got home?" Rachel asked Amelia.

Amelia nodded. She walked over to take the towel from Rachel's hand, helping dry her sister's hair."I just saw Mr. Wright downstairs. Why is he here?" Amelia asked curiously.

Rachel's expression was indifferent as she replied softly, "He brought me back."

Amelia raised an eyebrow and asked quietly, "Are you two dating?"

Lately, Charles's name had often been mentioned alongside her sister's, so Amelia couldn't help but wonder if they were seeing each other.

Rachel shook her head and replied solemnly, "We're just business partners. What's with you lately? Is your mind filled with nothing but love stories?"

Hearing Rachel say this, Amelia's eyes flashed with embarrassment. She bit her lip lightly and muttered, "It's good that you're not dating him. When I came back just now, I saw Mr. Wright and Dad sitting in the living room, and the atmosphere seemed tense. Dad doesn't seem to like Mr. Wright."

Amelia lowered her voice as if worried that Charles might be able to hear her from all the way downstairs.

Rachel saw how quietly Amelia spoke and smiled. "Are you a little afraid of Mr. Wright?"

Amelia nodded. "A little. Although he always has a smile on his face, he feels more unapproachable than Frederick."

Rachel raised an eyebrow slightly, teasing her sister. "You're such a scaredy-cat."

Amelia pressed her lips together and fell silent.

After a few seconds, Rachel murmured, "Actually, I'm a little scared, too."

Hearing her words, Amelia's hand paused for a moment.

Amelia had never heard Rachel admit to being afraid of anyone. For Rachel to say this, she must really be terrified.

Amelia immediately felt nervous and asked, "Rachel, does our family have a grudge against the Wright family?"

Rachel was silent for a moment, then took the towel from Amelia's hand and calmly said, "There's no grudge. In business, there are no permanent enemies or friends. I just can't figure out what Charles wants. I'm worried he has a bigger plan in mind, one that could swallow the Davis Group. That's why I'm a bit wary."

Amelia frowned slightly.

Under Rachel's management, the Davis Group had gotten back on track, and indeed, many people had their targets trained on the company.

Amelia wasn't stupid; she naturally understood how difficult it was for Rachel, as a woman, to protect the Davis Group.

Seeing Amelia's serious and contemplative expression, Rachel reached out and patted her head. "Don't overthink it. I'm just speculating. Besides, even if something happens to the Davis family, with Frederick protecting you and Mom, I can rest easy," she reassured.

Amelia looked up at Rachel and murmured. "You should take care of yourself more."

Rachel nonchalantly replied to Amelia. "Yeah, I know."

With that, she walked toward her room.

Amelia watched her, feeling slightly heavy-hearted.

Rachel put the towel back in the bathroom and quickly came out again.

Seeing Amelia still standing at the door, she said, "Hurry up and get ready for bed. You have to work at the hospital tomorrow. I'll deal with him."

With that, Rachel walked past Amelia and went downstairs.

As Rachel walked downstairs, Charles, who was talking to Frederick, immediately looked up at her.

Her hair was still not completely dry, and she was wearing casual clothes. She looked softer than her usual stern and sharp self.

Charles's lips curved into a smile. "I'm glad you're okay."

Rachel walked down the steps with a polite smile. "Thank you for your help, Mr. Wright."

Rachel had attended a social event tonight. She left the room to take a call, but as soon as she stepped out, she saw a woman giving a server a hard time.

The woman knocked the tray out of the server's hands.

Coincidentally, Rachel was passing by and got splashed by what the waiter had been carrying. The hot soup spilled on her skin, causing her to be in so much pain that she couldn't speak.

On top of that, she had been wearing a thin shirt, which became transparent when wet.

Charles walked in from outside the restaurant and saw her in distress. He immediately took off his coat, draped it over her, and escorted her out.

Rachel had checked in the bathroom earlier; the burn was in an awkward spot right on her chest. She was enduring the discomfort, smiling as she dealt with Charles.

Vincent saw Rachel coming downstairs, and Charles's gaze never left his daughter.

Vincent immediately understood what Charles was thinking. His eyes darkened slightly as he spoke. "Thank you for your help tonight, Mr. Wright. It's getting late, and we don't want to take up any more of your time."

Vincent's intention to get Charles to leave was very clear.

Charles took the hint. "Mr. Davis, you're too kind. It was just a small favor." He responded politely to Vincent, slowly getting up from his seat.

Rachel remained calm and composed, fully aware of her father's hostility toward Charles. After all, he was Nicholas's son; how could Vincent like him?

Rachel stepped forward, intending to politely greet Charles at the door. Still, her father saw through her intention and spoke up. "Frederick, it's getting late. You should go too. Help me see Mr. Wright out. You two can look out for each other on the way home."

Frederick, who was sitting on the couch, was surprised at having been called out to so suddenly. He had a subtle look of disappointment on his face, but he obediently got up from his seat. He nodded. "Okay, Mr. Davis. Please rest well."

Vincent nodded and said calmly. "Take care."

Frederick got up and gestured for Charles to lead the way. Charles then walked out of the Davis Manor's living room.

Rachel and Vincent went to see them off at the door.

At the door, Charles stopped, seemingly oblivious to Vincent's subtle hostility, and said to Rachel gently. "It's getting windy outside. Ms. Davis, you and Mr. Davis don't need to see me off."

Hearing this, Vincent immediately stopped in his tracks.

Frederick, standing behind Charles, raised an eyebrow slightly, inwardly admiring Charles's shameless composure.
