Chapter 76 He Intentionally Brought Her Over to Humiliate Her
Sebastian glanced at Frederick's message and boldly replied.
Sebastian: [So, how about you bring Ms. Roberts to the Maples Club tonight? Let's get together.]
Frederick frowned and didn't reply to Sebastian's message. He tossed his phone onto the passenger seat, started the car, and left the Hastings Manor.
Seeing Frederick's lack of response, Sebastian didn't pursue the matter further. As his friend, he had already guessed Frederick's thoughts to some extent.
He got up from the couch, patted Scott's shoulder, and said, "Let's go."
Scott raised an eyebrow at him and asked, "Are we going to pick up Rachel?"
Sebastian nodded and said, "Yes."
Scott knew that Sebastian was in love again. He looked at Sebastian's joyful expression disdainfully and said, "People in love are all fools."
Sebastian kicked him and said, "You're the one who wants to fall in love, but she won’t even give you the time of day."
Scott paused for a moment and furrowed his brows slightly. The truth was she not only didn’t pay attention to him, but also disliked him.
Rachel was going back to the Davis Manor tonight. After Sebastian picked her up, he drove her back there.
As she got out of the car, Rachel leaned over and lightly kissed Sebastian on the face.
Then, she whispered, "Take your friend with you when you leave. He comes to the Davis Manor every day to wait for Amelia. Even paparazzi aren’t as dedicated as him."
While saying this, she glanced at a dark corner around of the Davis Manor.
Sebastian shifted his gaze in that direction and raised an eyebrow.
After Rachel entered the Davis Manor, Sebastian opened the car door and got out. He walked towards the car parked in the darkness.
Once he reached it, he opened the passenger door and got in.
The car was filled with smoke. Frederick had smoked several cigarettes. Even Sebastian, a smoker himself, almost choked from it.
He quickly rolled down all the windows. "Are you smoking to relieve stress?"
Frederick glanced at him but didn't answer.
Sebastian patted his shoulder and said, "I did tell you to think carefully about getting a divorce. How about we go to the Maples Club to play cards and pass the time? Just us friends, no one else."
Frederick nodded in agreement and said, "Okay."
As Rachel walked into the house, Amelia was still awake, lying on a recliner and reading a book.
She walked over and sat on the couch, saying, "I saw Frederick's car outside when I came back earlier. I guess he wanted to see you but couldn't bring himself to."
Amelia paused her flipping through the book when she heard this. "Maybe he was just passing by," she said.
Rachel smiled at her gentle demeanor. "He had nothing better to do than to just drive to the Davis Manor?"
Amelia remained calm and said, "You'll have to ask him about that."
She closed the book after speaking.
Seeing that she didn't want to bring up Frederick, Rachel smiled slightly and changed the subject.
Meanwhile, at the Maples Club, Sebastian and Frederick arrived first. Noah and Yves followed suit.
Noah had already been removed from the chat group by Frederick once, so he didn't bring up anything about Amber again.
As Yves sat down, he realized that Scott wasn’t with them. He asked, "Where’s Scott? Is he with a woman again?"
Sebastian answered indifferently, "He's on his way. Let’s play poker while we wait for him."
Yves had no objections. Frederick had already picked up the playing cards.
A few minutes later, Scott's voice came from the entrance.
"You guys didn't wait for me."
As he spoke, he walked into the private room with large steps, accompanied by a woman.
Frederick took a casual glance at Scott and then looked away, continuing to play poker. Noah and Yves shifted awkwardly. Sebastian immediately distanced himself from the woman.
"I didn’t have anything to do with this," he said.
He had only told Scott where to meet them, never expecting Scott to actually bring Amber along.
Frederick put down the playing cards expressionlessly. He had won. He calmly collected the money on the table.
Seeing Frederick's lack of reaction, Sebastian secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
The waiter added another chair. Scott brought Amber over and they sat down.
He deliberately had Amber sit next to Frederick. Frederick remained expressionless.
Scott looked at Amber and said to Frederick, with a smile, "Frederick, give Amber a hand of playing cards too."
The dealer held the cards and looked at Frederick.
Frederick nodded slightly.
Amber didn't refuse and smiled. After the dealer finished dealing the cards, she picked up her hand.
Frederick lowered his gaze to the playing cards.
Amber neatly placed her cards on the table.
Frederick then displayed his poker cards. His poker hand ranked higher than both Amber's and Scott's.
Amber had come along with Scott and hadn't exchanged her chips.
Scott only showed his poker cards.
The dealer didn't immediately collect Amber's cards and politely reminded her, "Ms. Roberts, you lost."
Amber's face stiffened.
Frederick clearly had no intention of ending the game like this.
He looked at Scott and asked in a low voice, "Who's paying, you or Ms. Roberts?"
Scott raised an eyebrow. Amber bit her lip. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She didn't know how to respond at that moment.
When she had just returned to the country, Scott had also taken her to play poker at Maples Club. At that time, she had lost money under Frederick's name.
She thought today would be the same. The accounts were not settled, and the dealer didn't rush to collect the cards, patiently waiting.
Noah gently nudged Yves with his elbow, silently asking him what was going on. He thought Frederick had always loved Amber. However, now he was publicly embarrassing her.
Yves shook his head, indicating he didn't understand either.
Amber bit her lip and didn't want to lose her dignity in front of Frederick, so she intended to handle the situation herself. But the men's chips were all substantial, and one round was tens of thousands of dollars.
She had just lost six thousand dollars earlier.
She looked at Scott, her eyes filled with a hint of embarrassment.
Scott raised an eyebrow, reclining in his seat, and calmly replied, "Let's do this, that six thousand dollars earlier will be on my account. If Ms. Roberts doesn't have any money, then she can sit out the rest of the game."
As he said that, he raised his head to look at the dealer and said, "You missed a hand."
Amber pursed her lips. Her cheeks grew red with shame. Her anxiety caused her to tightly clench her hands under the table.
She wondered, 'Doesn't Scott like me? Then why do I feel like Scott intentionally brought me here to humiliate me?'
This minor incident didn't affect their mood for playing poker.
Amber didn't leave early, but instead sat politely in the seat next to Frederick, quietly watching him play.
Today, Frederick's luck was good, and Noah and Scott suffered losses, losing quite a bit of money, while Sebastian narrowly escaped.
Sebastian sat on the other side of Frederick. After revealing his hand, he leaned over to see Frederick's cards.
Amber also leaned over to take a look. She leaned forward, moving closer to Frederick.
The scent coming from Frederick was no longer the cologne she had given him before, but rather a faint, minty scent.
Amber wondered, 'Didn't Frederick use the cologne I gave him when I was in the hospital? Why did he suddenly change?'
She bit her lip, feeling upset.
Frederick looked at Amber leaning towards him. His expression was cold. After putting down the playing cards, he got up from his seat and said to a nearby waiter, "Keep the money from this round as a tip."
Seeing Frederick about to leave, Scott lit a cigarette and took a drag from it. He said to Amber, "Amber, you should ride with Frederick. I lost a lot of money tonight, so I need to save on gas."
Frederick coldly said, "You brought her here. You should take her home."
Then, he briskly walked away.
Amber quickly reached out and grabbed Frederick's arm. With teary eyes, she said, "Frederick, do you hate me?"
