Chapter 424 It Was Actually There to Warn Her
After a few days of treatment, Dylan was doing way better. His mood lightened up too, and he even suggested taking a stroll in the hospital's back garden.
Cynthia got herself a lawyer to go after Harold. With Dylan on the mend, she didn't wanna show any stress around him.
After their garden walk, they headed back to the ward.
Right at the entrance, Cynthia spotted Madison.
Madison was leaning on a crutch, and next to her was a woman in a black suit dress—Harold's secretary, Catherine Ross.
Cynthia's face got serious real quick. Dylan got a bit anxious seeing Madison, worried she might be there to give him a hard time like Harold.
Catherine noticed them first. She smiled and said softly to Madison, "Mrs. Madison Kingsley, Mrs. Cynthia Kingsley and Mr. Kingsley are back."
Madison looked up. Seeing Dylan and Cynthia, she smiled. "Went for a walk?"
Cynthia nodded slightly, feeling uneasy with Madison's smile.
"Dylan, how's the recovery going?" Madison asked, unusually kind, her eyes on Dylan without any hint of blame.
Dylan felt a bit relieved, walked over to Madison, and gently supported her. "Grandma, I'm almost recovered," he said softly, then helped her into the ward.
But then, Madison pulled her hand away. Dylan looked at her, confused and a bit humble.
Cynthia got nervous, fearing Madison might suddenly flip and say something nasty in front of Dylan.
She took a deep breath, about to speak, but Madison beat her to it. "You're injured, so don't help me. I'm worried about hurting your wound."
Dylan thought Madison found him disdainful and didn't want him touching her.
Even though Dylan was healing up, he was super sensitive. The online video buzz had died down, but he still freaked out whenever he heard someone playing a video or browsing the internet, worried they'd recognize him.
This mental torture made it tough for Dylan to get his old confidence back.
After talking to Dylan, Madison glanced at Cynthia.
Cynthia saw the warning in Madison's eyes. Her face darkened a bit, understanding Madison's real reason for coming. Madison seemed to be visiting Dylan but was actually there to warn her, just like when Harold came to check on Dylan.
"Mrs. Madison Kingsley, let's talk inside," Catherine suggested gently, supporting Madison with a kind smile. She gave Cynthia a quick glance and helped Madison into Dylan's ward.
Dylan, suspecting nothing, walked to his bed and sat down. Cynthia took a deep breath and helped Dylan lie down.
Madison parked herself at the far end of Dylan's bed, chatting on and off, throwing out ideas for his future. She was all about sending him abroad if he was up for it.
"Going abroad's gonna cost a pretty penny, but don't sweat it. No matter where you wanna go, I'll cover it," Madison said softly.
Dylan wasn't really in the headspace to think about all that. He stayed quiet for a bit, then finally said, "Grandma, I wanna wait till I'm fully healed and outta here before I think about any of this."
Cynthia jumped in, saying seriously, "Mom, you're getting up there in age. You don't need to stress about this stuff. We got it covered."
Her words had a deeper meaning. Dylan missed it, but Madison got the hint.
Madison smiled, looked at Cynthia, and said calmly, "You're right. I'm old, and this isn't my worry. But you should decide soon so you're not caught off guard. If Dylan goes abroad, I can give you some of my retirement money. Think it over."
Cynthia took a deep breath. With Dylan right there, she kept her cool, just smiling and saying, "Mom, how can I take your retirement money? If I run out, I'll ask Harold. Mom, you don't need to worry."
Madison's eyes darkened instantly.
Dylan chimed in, "Grandma, you don't need to worry about my stuff."
Madison sighed, then stood up and said calmly, "I have a check-up with the doc, so I gotta go."
She glanced at Catherine and said, "Catherine, let's roll."
Catherine quickly got up to help Madison.
Cynthia watched them leave, her expression deepening. To keep Dylan from noticing anything, she kept smiling and walked out to see them off.
After they left, Cynthia gritted her teeth, controlled her emotions, and went back to Dylan's ward.
Dylan lay on the bed, staring blankly at the door.
Cynthia, not wanting to spill the beans about her and Harold prepping for a divorce, started talking about other stuff to distract Dylan.
Amelia had just wrapped up a group meeting and headed back to her office, only to find Madison sitting in a chair outside, waiting for her.
Seeing Amelia, Madison stood up and greeted her with a smile. "Ms. Davis."
Amelia nodded slightly, walked over, and noticed the bag in the hands of the young woman next to Madison. It was a General Hospital obstetrics and gynecology bag.
Docs usually used it to hold pregnant women's check-up materials and then gave it to them to keep their reports from pregnancy to childbirth.
Catherine noticed Amelia's gaze, her eyes flickering slightly, and then she hid the bag by her side.
Amelia took her eyes off Catherine's hand, looked at Madison, and asked calmly, "Mrs. Madison Kingsley, what can I do for you?"
