Chapter 500 Ms. Davis Fired Me
Shirley watched as Sebastian grabbed Rachel's arm. Her face turned stone-cold.
She stepped up and yanked his hand away, flashing a polite but firm smile. "Sorry, Mr. Kingsley, but we're not heading the same way. You can wait for your assistant," she said, keeping it cool.
Sebastian's eyes narrowed at Shirley, a chill creeping into his demeanor. He had recently learned about Shirley and Charles being siblings, but he hadn't seen Shirley for a while.
He had heard she had returned to Yaradia, supposedly dismissed by Rachel due to her ties to the Wright family, but he hadn't expected to see her in Kasfee.
Rachel, caught off guard by Shirley's return, looked at her and then turned back to Sebastian, her expression impassive. "I'll think about your offer and let you know within a week. I gotta go."
With that, Rachel left.
Sebastian's hand clenched into a fist as he watched Rachel walk away. Shirley hurried to open the car door for her. Rachel slid in without another word, and Shirley promptly got behind the wheel, driving off before Sebastian had a chance to say anything more.
As they drove, Rachel raised an eyebrow, her voice cool. "Why did you come back? Didn't I tell you to stay in Yaradia for a while?"
Rachel was worried that Layla and Nancy would use Shirley, so she didn't want Shirley around her. She hadn't expected Shirley to come back from Yaradia in less than a month.
Shirley sighed lightly. "Charles asked me to come back."
Rachel's expression changed slightly upon hearing this, but she quickly suppressed her unusual feelings.
Seeing that Rachel didn't seem curious about Charles, Shirley softly said, "Ms. Davis, you don't need to worry. I won't cause you any trouble here. I swear."
Rachel's gaze remained fixed out the window. "Just focus on driving. We can't afford any accidents right now."
Shirley's grip on the steering wheel tightened, her demeanor serious. But the silence soon grew unbearable for her. She couldn't help but speak, "Ms. Davis, I'd never betray you. If I did, Charles would kill me. He's been fighting with my mom for years. I haven't taken sides, and I won't start now. You can trust me."
Rachel's eyes remained fixed on the passing scenery. "After all, I'm not your family, so I can't completely trust you."
Shirley immediately responded, "But to me, you're like a sister."
Checking the rearview mirror, she saw Rachel's face darken.
Shirley quickly added, "Actually, I'd prefer you as my sister-in-law."
"Don't say such things again," Rachel snapped coldly.
Shirley gripped the steering wheel tighter, still a bit scared of Rachel. She bit her lip, feeling bad for Charles. "Ms. Davis, I misspoke, but Charles did nothing wrong. Don't take it out on him."
Seeing no reaction from Rachel, Shirley muttered, "Charles really likes you."
When they arrived, Shirley got out to open the door for Rachel. As Rachel bent down to get out, she glanced coldly at Shirley and said sternly, "If Layla and Nancy find out you're back in Kasfee, they'll definitely come looking for you."
Shirley's face fell, her voice sounding hurt. "But Charles insisted that I stay here to help you."
Rachel's gaze turned icy. "Didn't you say you don't take sides?"
Shirley's expression stiffened, and she lowered her head.
Rachel indifferently withdrew her gaze and continued, "I'll have the finance department transfer your salary to your account. You don't need to go to the Davis Group tomorrow."
With that, Rachel walked into the Davis Manor.
Shirley stood at the entrance for a long time, watching Rachel enter the house without looking back. Her face stiffened slightly, standing there somewhat at a loss.
After a while, Tina came out from inside the Davis Manor. Seeing Shirley standing there with red eyes as if about to cry, Tina asked calmly, "What happened?"
Shirley looked up at Tina, tears instantly falling. "Ms. Davis fired me."
Tina raised an eyebrow. "Did you mess up or something?"
Shirley, with a tear-streaked face, said softly, "I think I said something wrong."
Tina bent down to take a tissue from the car and handed it to Shirley. "Lasting this long before getting fired is quite an achievement. Most of the assistants Ms. Davis hired before couldn't last a week."
Shirley, sniffling, replied, "Thanks, but that didn't comfort me much."
Tina chuckled softly. "Your mom and sister have been trouble for Ms. Davis. Plus, after you got distracted and caused that car accident, she didn't fire you. This time, it's more about protecting you. If you want to stay at the Davis Group, the Yaradia branch is hiring. Work hard there, and you might get the chance to come back."
Shirley pondered for a moment. She muttered, "I got fired. How do I tell Charles? And is Ms. Davis seriously thinking about getting back with that jerk Sebastian?"
Tina didn't respond, which only made Shirley more anxious. "Charles really likes her," she murmured.
