Chapter 229 It Never Belonged to Her from the Start
Frederick hesitated over his phone screen, fingers poised, but in the end, he refrained from deleting the message he had sent Amelia.
Observing his pensive expression, Felix ventured cautiously, "Mr. Hastings, maybe Ms. Davis didn't catch your message?"
At Felix's words, Frederick abruptly stood from the stone bench and strode towards the hotel interior, with Felix trailing behind.
Once inside the elevator, Felix sensibly pressed the button for the floor where Amelia was staying.
Frederick watched the floor light up, reached out, and pressed it again, causing the lit floor to go dark immediately.
Felix paused, puzzled.
Wasn't Frederick going to see Amelia?
Frederick looked at the time on the elevator display and said calmly, "It's too late. She has a good routine and might already be resting."
Felix suddenly realized his behavior, feeling that Frederick was being overly humble in front of Amelia.
But then he remembered that many years ago when Amelia and Frederick had just gotten married, it seemed Amelia was just as humble.
The tables really had turned.
The next morning, Amelia woke with a heavy head, likely from falling asleep in the bathtub and catching a chill. As she pulled back the comforter, she sneezed.
The sky outside was already bright. Amelia picked up her phone to check the time, only to find that it hadn't been charged last night and had automatically shut down.
She quickly plugged it in to charge and went to the bathroom to freshen up while it powered on.
After freshening up, she saw several missed calls and messages from Rachel and Frederick on her phone.
Most of the messages were from the work group.
Amelia first opened Rachel's message.
Rachel said that she had a meeting in the Davis Group early this morning, so she had to rush back to Kasfee.
They left too early to disturb her rest.
After a quick reply to Rachel's message, Amelia noticed a notification from the office group on her screen and clicked on it.
Many people had sent messages last night, so Amelia scrolled to the top to check.
After reading all the messages, half an hour had passed.
Maria's condition was under control but still not optimistic.
The treatment plan Amelia proposed was costly and required the best medical equipment.
Tideport City's hospital currently didn't have the conditions to introduce such equipment, as it would ultimately have to be paid for by the hospital, and the price was exorbitant.
So Tideport City's hospital planned to opt for conservative treatment.
However, if they chose the conservative treatment, Maria's recovery progress would slow down.
Amelia felt a bit heavy-hearted after reading these messages.
If Maria's family agreed to transfer her to General Hospital for treatment, Amelia could then request Dr. Clark to purchase the equipment, which might lead to a different outcome.
With this thought, Amelia called Anderson to share her idea.
Upon hearing Amelia's idea, Anderson said earnestly, "Dr. Davis, this medical equipment currently costs over two million dollars abroad. To introduce it, we need the signature of General Hospital's president, Mr. Hastings. Even if we don't consider Maria's situation, would Tideport City's hospital be willing to let her go?"
Treating such a rare disease successfully at Tideport City's hospital would greatly enhance its reputation and economic value.
So, Maria wasn't just another patient for the hospital.
Anderson also hoped Amelia could bring this patient back.
After all, the same principle applied.
"Dr. Davis, wherever there are people, there's a pursuit of fame and fortune," Anderson said earnestly.
"I know," Amelia responded softly, fully aware of this principle.
She added, "I'll try to convince Maria's mother to agree to transfer Maria to General Hospital for treatment. If Tideport City's hospital is unwilling, we can label it as a joint treatment between Tideport City and General Hospital. What do you think?"
Anderson was silent for a few seconds, then said kindly, "If you can persuade Mr. Hastings and Tideport City's hospital, General Hospital can accept Maria."
With Anderson's assurance, Amelia felt at ease.
After ending the call, Amelia remembered she hadn't yet checked the message Frederick had sent her.
She opened the chat and, gripping her phone slightly tighter, her expression became complicated as she stared at the message for a long time.
After a while, she placed her fingers on the screen and typed a message.
She hesitated, ultimately deciding not to send it, and deleted it instead.
She had several missed calls on her phone, all from Frederick.
Amelia rubbed her temples, feeling her head grow heavier. After taking some cold medicine, she decided to go upstairs.
Before the wedding banquet yesterday, Amelia had set her phone to vibrate mode, so she hadn't heard Frederick's calls or seen his messages.
After all, the purchase of medical equipment needed Frederick's approval.
Amelia left her room, entered the elevator, and pressed the button for Frederick's floor.
The elevator arrived.
As Amelia was about to step out, she saw Amber standing at the elevator door, waiting.
Amelia's clear eyes instantly showed a hint of disappointment. Since Amber was here, she felt a sense of irony in the fact that Frederick had sent her so many messages at different times last night.
She wondered what kind of mood Frederick was in when he sent those messages.
Was Amber by his side when he sent them?
Upon seeing Amelia in the elevator, Amber's expression stiffened, but she quickly smiled at Amelia and said, "Ms. Davis, are you here to see Frederick?"
Amelia didn't answer Amber's question and stepped out of the elevator.
She needed Frederick's approval for the medical equipment, and since she was already here, she couldn't turn back just because she saw Amber.
Seeing this, Amber bit her lip and reached out to stop Amelia, saying softly, "Frederick stayed up late last night. He's still sleeping. Dr. Davis, why don't you come back later?"
Amelia hadn't intended to respond to Amber, but seeing her block her path, her expression turned cold as she looked at Amber.
She took a step forward, not directly, but towards Amber, asking, "What? Are you worried that if I see him, he'll explain the bracelet situation to me?"
Amber instinctively took a step back, her eyes filled with nervousness and fear.
