Chapter 17 Is It Better to Be a Person or a Material Point?

Amelia didn't expect Frederick to suggest having dinner with Vincent in the hospital.

Confused, she looked at Frederick.

With an impassive expression, Frederick glanced at her and asked gently, "Amelia, do you have other plans for today?"

Amelia thought about it and realized that Frederick was doing this on purpose.

She sighed inwardly. Ever since the Davis Group had run into trouble, it had been a long time since Vincent had felt this happy.

So, she didn't want to disappoint Vincent.

"No."

She forced a smile and tried to appear calm.

Frederick narrowed his eyes and smiled before taking a seat on the adjacent couch.

Vincent was in high spirits and talked business with Frederick.

Amelia didn't understand what they were discussing, so she aimlessly took out her phone and messaged Daniel an apology.

Daniel immediately replied, telling her that being with Vincent was more important.

His understanding made Amelia feel guilty.

She had taken the initiative to make plans with Daniel, and now she was reneging on them, so she felt uneasy.
While Frederick was chatting with Vincent, he caught Amelia out of the corner of his eye, constantly texting on her phone as if she was in a conversation with someone. His eyes went cold, and he slid his arm around Amelia’s waist. In front of Vincent, Amelia did not resist, but she continued to lower her head and text.

Frederick kept up a calm conversation with Vincent, only tightening his grip around Amelia's waist a little.

Amelia felt the pain and looked up at Frederick.

“You…” She bit back a curse, thinking of her courage gained within Vincent’s hospital room. “Why are you pinching me?”

Frederick raised an eyebrow, glancing at the phone she clutched tightly, and said with a touch of wistfulness, “I'm chatting with Vincent, and yet your attention is entirely on your phone. Are you disrespecting the two men you love the most? Am I right?” His voice was low and sensual, captivating Amelia.

If she didn’t know the state of their marriage, Amelia might have thought that she and Frederick were a loving couple. She bit her lip silently.

Seeing a subdued Amelia, Vincent chuckled and said, “Amelia, you haven’t changed. If Rachel was negotiating with a client and only cared about her phone, the client would have walked away by now. Only married to Frederick, can you afford to be so willful. If you were with someone else, even if you were reluctant to enter the business world, you would have to learn.”

Amelia pursed her lips, giving Frederick a displeased glance. He was clearly putting on an act in front of Vincent.

Frederick, catching her look, simply smiled and hugged her waist even tighter. “The Hastings family’s business doesn’t need Amelia. She likes being a doctor, and the Hastings family will support her in that.”

Amelia stayed quiet. The Hastings family had no objections to her work. Brittany had bought General Hospital for Amelia.

Vincent nodded in satisfaction upon hearing Frederick's words. He had thought that Amelia and Frederick were quite cold to each other, but it seemed that wasn’t completely the case.

Soon, dinner was delivered to the hospital along with a folding table. Vincent's mood was excellent as he engaged in a lengthy conversation with Frederick throughout the meal, who was always patient.

After dinner, Amelia helped Susan clean up. When they went to throw away the trash, Susan said to Amelia, smiling, “Ms. Davis, it looks like Mr. Hastings isn’t completely indifferent to you after all.”
He joined Mr. Davis in the hospital for meals and chats because of Ms. Davis. Otherwise, he wouldn't have done it.

Did he like her?

Hearing Susan say this made Amelia feel sad.

She knew Frederick didn't love her.

Amelia didn't respond to Susan's comment. She just smiled and stayed silent.

When she returned to Vincent's hospital room, Amelia stopped short at the door upon seeing Daniel. He was holding a bouquet of fresh flowers, stepped into Vincent's room, and said with a smile, "Mr. Davis."

Vincent was surprised to see Daniel, barely recognizing him.

"Is that you, Daniel?"

Daniel nodded, glanced at Frederick, who was sitting on the sofa, and warmly replied, "Yes, Mr. Davis, it's been a while.

“I've heard from Amelia that you've been unwell, so I came to see you. Despite the years, you've maintained your handsome appearance."

Vincent couldn't help but laugh and said, "You've changed.

"You're no longer the naive boy you once were. You've grown mature and kind."

"Now, the world belongs to the young. I'm old now."

Amelia walked into Vincent's room, first looking at Frederick.

Frederick was on the sofa, fiddling with his wedding ring. He was expressionless, and Amelia couldn't read his thoughts.

Noticing Amelia, Vincent quickly said to Daniel, “I forgot to introduce you. This is..."

Before Vincent could finish, Daniel immediately turned to Frederick and interrupted, "Mr. Hastings, we met a couple of days ago."

Vincent paused, then chuckled, "So you've already met.

"That means Amelia must have introduced you to Frederick."

Frederick lifted his head and looked at Amelia. A flicker of malice passed through his eyes.

"Amelia, have you introduced me?"

Amelia glanced at Frederick, then turned to Daniel.

"Have you had dinner yet?"

Daniel shook his head and said with a smile, "I had made plans, but I got stood up, so I decided to come up and see Mr. Davis."

At his words, Amelia felt embarrassed.

Frederick, sitting on the sofa, became displeased.

Daniel joked, "I'm just teasing you. I'm actually off to a party shortly."

After he finished, he turned back to Vincent.

"Mr. Davis, I'll visit you another day. I have an important gathering to attend today."
Vincent nodded, sensing something odd in the atmosphere among the three young people. After all, Amelia was married, and if they appeared too close, it could lead to misunderstandings.

"Okay. Goodbye."

Daniel politely exited Vincent's hospital room. Amelia, feeling a twinge of guilt, whispered, "I'll walk you out."

Daniel didn't refuse.

Frederick squinted his eyes.

Just as Vincent was about to call Amelia back, she had already left the room. Seeing Frederick's stern face, Vincent explained, "Amelia and Daniel grew up together. They're really close but just as friends. Frederick, don't get the wrong idea."

Frederick nodded expressionlessly.

"Amelia is my wife. I trust her," he stated.

Vincent felt puzzled. Frederick didn't seem upset, yet the temperature in the room seemed to have dropped significantly.
